The 3rd New Zealand Hollywood Master Animation/Film Summer Camp has come to a successful end! The animation film tutoring summer camp lasted 15 days in total. Natural light X Huhu Studios passed on the most systematic, international and cutting-edge knowledge and content to students, and finally each student was rewarded with three letters of recommendation from tutors. The first summer camp led by the director of Disney's original Mulan
Tutor 1: Tony Bancroft (USA) - Director of Disney film Mulan, the highest award in the animation industry, "Annie Award" best director, USA California Academy of Arts (CalArts) alumnus, chairman of the jury of the animated cartoon unit of the 2017 Shanghai International Film Festival, animation director of the Oscar winning "Lion King", and creator of Peng Peng, the porcupine.
The teaching contents include but are not limited to:
In combination with Disney's classic works Mulan and Lion King, the creation and production of Hollywood animation and films will be explained in detail;
Character design, Hollywood story creation structure, story version/split lens design, etc
Collection of one-on-one guidance works;
Share the application skills of the world's top animation schools;
Career planning and employment prospects of international animators.
Teacher Tony's message and comment on each student: Although the class time is only a few days, teacher Tony is conscientious and accompanies the students to have meals in class and go out for self-study. The students also make profound friendship with the teacher, and everyone is very reluctant to part.
Tutor 2: Jonathan (Jono) Mafi Jonathan Mafei (New Zealand) - "Because of his resemblance to Daniel Radcliffe, the star of Harry Potter, he called the animation industry" Harry Potter ", Director of Spacifx Studio, a well-known 3D animator and technical director, with more than 12 years of experience in the animation/film and television industry, he participated in the production of the short film Mirror, which won the 2012 Hollywood Best Short Film Award, and Professor&CG, Director of Lifeway Senior Animation Academy in New Zealand.
Teacher Jono is a young but highly capable teacher with rich teaching experience and teaching methods. In this summer camp, most of the students have no knowledge of 3D animation, but Jono has been able to let students learn to use Blender in a few days from creation to modeling to coloring to completing group projects, and both teachers and students have completed seemingly impossible things, Even the youngest student under 14 years old has a high degree of completion and participation.
The teaching contents include but are not limited to:
Industrialization process of animation production;
Detailed explanation of industrialization of animation production;
Animation production skills/Blender basic 3D modeling;
Lighting, color and emotion in animation production;
Digital painting and light experiment/light surface interaction;
Color temperature and light attenuation.
Graduation works and Portfolio training Tutoring: Under the careful guidance of tutor Jono, in just four days, the students completed the idea story, created it with Blender, 3D modeling, coloring, team cooperation, and finally completed an excellent graduation work.
In this summer camp, the tutors who eat and live with the students also provided one-on-one tutoring for the collection of works that the students are preparing, so that the students can combine the knowledge of this explanation to optimize their own collection of art works for the application university/graduate students in a very short time, and get closer to the desired university!

Visit the world's top animation academy
Activity 1: Visit Digipost, a famous post production company in New Zealand, and the first post production and visual effects company in New Zealand. The film and television works involved in the production include: famous American dramas Spartacus: God of the Arena, Spartacus: Revenge, Spartacus: Battle of the Curse.
In this activity, students were given a rare opportunity to learn about the sound effect processing and special effect processing of Digipost in detail, and also observed the precious color correction machine that is more expensive than Ferrari.
Activity 2: Visit the number one digital design school in the Asia Pacific region: Media Design School (MDS) in Auckland, New Zealand, which is the number one digital design school in the Asia Pacific region, and is one of the only three international top animation production schools in the southern hemisphere to enter the Top 20.
Media Design School New Zealand is the only school that cooperates with Sony Entertainment and Unity to provide degree courses in game design and development. As a famous design college in New Zealand, MDS has maintained close cooperation with famous local design companies WETA digital and Huhu Studios.
MDS graduates employed by Vita Digital have participated in the design and production of special effects for Hollywood blockbusters such as the famous movies "Hobbit", "Avatar", "King Kong" and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Many artists from Huhu Studio have also graduated from this school.
On the same day, Steve, the vice president of MDS Animation, received everyone personally and introduced the professional curriculum, employment prospects and career development of New Zealand Animation in detail.
Activity 3: Location of the Oscar winning film Lord of the Rings: live learning in Hobbit Village. The weekend trip was also full. The students drove to Hobbit Village with their tutors, and the scene experience reproduced the scenes of Peter Jackson's Oscar winning film The Lord of the Rings.
Activity 4: Dining with artists from Huhu Studio, learning and communicating. This winter camp also specially arranged for students and artists from Huhu Studio: Layout/Mirror Sorter, Editors, Process Management Director, Production Director, CFO, CEO, etc., to have a dinner together to celebrate the students' successful graduation.
Artists have shared their learning experiences and career development stories, and exchanged contact information with students, hoping to see students on the stage of the international animation/film and television industry in the near future, and have the opportunity to fight side by side with artists.
Activity 5: At the warm invitation of the CEO and his wife of HUHU Studio, everyone went to their home to learn how to make New Zealand featured desserts, watch football games, learn about New Zealand culture and improve their oral English.
Activity 6: Have an animation class with the students from the local high school in New Zealand: In order to let the students better integrate and feel the atmosphere of learning abroad, a special animation class was arranged with the local students and led by Tony, the tutor. The students from China and New Zealand soon got together and enjoyed this class very much.
Activity 7: Go out with the tutors to watch the latest movies and discuss learning, and learn to watch movies from a professional perspective. The most significant thing about this summer camp is to watch the latest live version of Disney's Lion King with the animation director Tony Bancroft of Disney's original Lion King. The next day, Tony's mentor received a phone call from the director of Disney's original Lion King to share his views on the new version. Tony's mentor also shared his views with the students in class.
Super rich after-school activities
Close contact with nature to stimulate creative inspiration
The location of this summer camp is Snells Beach, a coastal town in the north of Auckland, New Zealand's largest city. It is located on the east coast of Mahurangi Mahlan Peninsula, with its beach facing east, across Kawau Kavo Bay, and directly to the beautiful Kawau Kavo Island (the world-famous super 5A natural scenic spot integrating luxury life and nature in one, once the former residence of Sir George Grey, the early British governor of New Zealand).
Snells Beach is facing the sea and surrounded by mountains on one side. The walking distance of the winter camp camp has been able to reach all kinds of beautiful and charming landscape sites, allowing students to get close to nature, stimulate creative inspiration and experience pure New Zealand.
Mr. Trevor, the CEO of Huhu Studio who is very hospitable every day, and Brent, the editor of "Sea King" who takes care of everyone every day, also always take you to taste the special food of Dairy Cow Country: ice cream of various flavors. Although everyone gained more or less weight after the winter camp, they were very warm and sweet.
Visit the bee farm and taste the original New Zealand Manuka honey: The students of this summer camp were also invited to visit the local bee farm to observe and learn the manufacturing process of honey closely, and also tasted the wild New Zealand Manuka honey.
A grand and warm graduation ceremony

The happy time passed quickly, and the students finally ushered in a grand and warm graduation ceremony. Each student performed well in this summer camp, actively participated in learning, and finally all got three tutors' Letter of recommendation for application for art study abroad , and Huhu Studios. There are also two outstanding students who have received additional recommendation letters from Tony and Jono respectively.
Mr. Trevor, CEO of Huhu Studio, gave us an inspiring graduation speech, hoping that students will never give up and face difficulties bravely on the way to pursue their dreams in the future.

Although this animated film summer camp for tutoring overseas students was only two weeks old, the kids have established a deep relationship with their tutors, and they are reluctant to leave. Because Tony's class ended at the earliest time, the students recorded what they wanted to say for him one by one, which was very touching, and gave him a surprise before the teacher left. This long international trip, whether it's the learning experience in a foreign classroom or the chat of hip-hop after class, all the time has become a common unforgettable experience for everyone.
