Mr. Zhang has studied in Japan for 9 years since 2009 and obtained a master's degree in architecture from the University of Tokyo. During the university period, he successively practiced in Southwest Architectural Design Institute and Japanese Construction Design. One of the important roles of public space is to bring about some social friction and bring people together who would not have met. The meaning of public space is multifaceted and multi contextual. First, the word "public" has a sociological meaning, while "space" has a strong architectural color.

　　 Judging the publicity of a space includes three dimensions: inclusiveness, accessibility and functional visibility [2]。

　　 Inclusion

The expression of inclusiveness is the openness to different groups and the public character of not imposing control beyond the legal provisions.

　　 Accessibility

Accessibility refers to the good public location of a public space and the time accessibility of opening time.

　　 Feature Visibility

Functional visibility refers to the activity potential of a public space, whether the space is effectively used and imaginative [3]. Public Space puts forward an overall and comprehensive description of public space, suggesting that public space should be responsive, democratic and meaningful [4].

After a large number of rapid urban expansion in China, the development focus of some cities has changed. It is required to upgrade the quality of the existing space, especially the early built residential environment in the urban center that cannot meet the needs of today's urban life, so as to provide better service and experience for its users [5]. Urban development cannot always stay in the new, hardware, and formal operations. It needs to continue to point to a more sophisticated field that is meaningful, close to the crowd [6].

The public space is located between the old courtyards of the old community, so we hope to refer to the community building design in the architectural design, emphasize the introduction of more diverse participants from the bottom up, tap the community's cultural, social, environmental and other values, and form a more multi-dimensional way of urban concern [7], Social design that ultimately achieves the goal of self growth and improvement of the community.

　　 Project content and objectives:

The architectural STUDIO 5 project is an actual project, which is located in a public area enclosed by an old courtyard in the central area of Chengdu.

The public area covers the central public passageway enclosed by four different dormitory yards, as well as the entrance gate and entrance public space of four unit dormitories.

On the basis of fieldwork, the project plans to explore and implement the renewal and existence of old urban courtyards from the perspective of sociology in a multi-dimensional way such as landscape, architecture, interior and visual design.

The attempt to create public space is to observe the daily life style of ordinary people on the basis of full "empathy", to crack it through design means, and then to reorganize new social relations.

The final design result may be "understanding" rather than "transformation", it may be moistening things silently, or it may be simply "intervention".
