Today, we interviewed W, who has received 4 offers from RCA, LCC, Goldsmiths and UCA. I hope her learning and application experience can bring some encouragement to everyone! Now, let's begin to introduce this student who trained on the whole work collection line. The work collection builds an ideal utopia and wins the story of the digital direction of the Royal Academy of Arts.

As an undergraduate majoring in digital media in the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts, Ms. W is determined to go to the best universities to learn the most cutting-edge knowledge system, uphold a high sense of faith and learning autonomy, and complete a set of ultra-high level works under the teacher's "always online" remote guidance, so that she can have the most solid confidence when facing LCC interviewers and gain the strength recognized by Huangyi! In her four project works, she always insists that the design purpose is from life to serve mankind, and hopes to use her own ability to build a "utopia" of ideal life!

The training and creation process of W's works on the assembly line:

Q: Why do you want to apply for Digital Direction?

W: I majored in digital media in an art school in China as an undergraduate. Although there are some differences in the focus of domestic and foreign universities, I am also a graduate student applying for this major.

As for why I choose to continue my studies, it is because my goal in life is to enter a university and become a teacher after graduation. I think digital teachers are a relatively scarce resource in the domestic market. In order to achieve this goal, I hope to be able to enter the top institutions to learn cutting-edge knowledge and skills.

Of course, after the PSW visa policy in the UK came down this year, if I have the opportunity to graduate, I should still hope to stay in the UK for two years to expand my knowledge and practical experience.

Q: How long have you been working on your portfolio?

W: In less than a year, a total of 4 projects were completed.

After I came to the natural light, I always chose to take training courses on the assembly line of works. One reason was that because of the distance, I needed to take into account the university courses at that time, which was really not convenient to travel between two places.

Secondly, it is also the relationship of the major. The plan made for me by professional teachers hardly needs the supplement of basic courses. In addition, my learning autonomy is OK. From talking about topics to post production, I will communicate with teachers at every stage at any time;

Where there is a need for improvement, the teacher will also give me timely suggestions for revision. The training class on the work assembly line is really a very suitable way for me.

Q: Can you tell us about the four items in your portfolio?

W: The span between the four projects in my work collection is quite large. The first project is a group of projection devices for critical discussion of campus culture, which is more inclined to public art in form.

The second one is also about campus. Because of the current shortage of land in domestic colleges and universities, the conditions of student dormitories are generally not good, but also to achieve the purpose of irony, I made a Utopian animated short film and projected it onto three walls, forming an immersive space.

The third project, focusing on interaction, is an online art workshop APP for left behind children.

The fourth project is more creative and futuristic. I made a set of emotional visualization devices with programming. The concept of the whole program is to link human brain waves and printers, form a unique image of your emotions in the computer by interpreting brain waves, and then print it out to make a complete picture.

My personal favorite is Project 3, which is about the creation of left behind children. However, I think the reason for the final enrollment of Huangyi is more due to Project 4, because it is more inclined to the training direction of Huangyi's digital media specialty, whether from a conceptual perspective or combined with programming.

Q: Where does the inspiration of the project come from?

Which project creation process is more difficult for you?

W: The principle of training and creation on the assembly line of my works originates from life and serves human beings.

In fact, the themes of the four projects are not a very macro and huge concept. They are essentially derived from some small things in life, and are also social problems that are easy to ignore.

But I also have more feelings about these little things that are close to my life, and I want to explore and try to solve them through my own ability.

One of the most difficult challenges should be Project 4, because my programming knowledge is completely self-taught. In fact, this work is not a complete finished product, but a blueprint I have conceived. At present, only the concept has been built, but from the results, the whole work does not affect the expression of the theme.

Q: What do you think about the changes of Huangyi this year?

W: I really didn't panic about the changes this year. Because the training on the assembly line of my works was completed earlier, I entered the final adjustment stage before October. So when Huangyi announces the DDL and the latest modification requirements, I still have time to make modifications and adjustments.

Even for the "turbulence" in the application process this year, my teacher and I have also been prepared. Because of the policy, the application difficulty of many British universities has improved. As a top level university, it is reasonable for Huangyi to put forward more stringent requirements.

In this regard, I also hope to give students some suggestions to complete the collection of works as soon as possible! It is the absolute principle to keep the same and respond to changes! Just like this time, many colleges and universities temporarily advanced the DDL, which made many students who had "procrastination" panic. On the contrary, it had no impact on the students who had been steady. In fact, from the perspective of the quality of the collection, the same is true. Your efforts and intentions will be intuitively reflected in the collection!

Q: It's said that you also participated in the Lunyi interview. Can you share your experience with us?

W: The whole interview process is also safe!

After receiving Lunyi's interview notice, I went to do some research, and the teacher also helped me summarize the interview questions last year. I was well prepared.

In the first half of the interview process, most of the questions were based on the collection of works, and my answers were fairly comfortable. Later, the interviewer might want to "create difficulties" for me, and temporarily gave me an examination question: request to design a product for non human groups. At that time, I thought that the definition of this user was a little big. The admissions officer took butterfly as an example.

The first reaction was really a bit muddled. After thinking for 30 seconds, my plan was to design a bionic flower for butterflies, apply nectar on the flower to attract butterflies, and design the area as a scenic spot, which also took into account that because of environmental problems, people have fewer opportunities to see butterflies in the city, This scenic spot is very helpful both in terms of function and educational significance.

I don't know whether the interviewer was satisfied with my answer. Then he upgraded the difficulty and gave me another academic question: asked me to define criticism from a personal perspective.

Maybe it is because I am more confident in the collection of works. The whole interview process is still orderly, and all the points I think of have been expressed. Finally, the admissions officer said that I would be informed of the interview results a week later, and I would soon receive an offer~

Q: Is there any difference between class in natural light and school?

W: It can be said that the natural light has changed my whole creative habit and thinking mode.

In my past learning process, I had a thinking inertia, that is, I only considered the results and did not attach importance to the process. When I first came to the natural light to show my works to a professional teacher, he found this problem;

He said that my creation was not complete according to the requirements of the collection of works. It was just for the purpose of looking good and single functionality, without the process of research and thinking, which also led to the lack of level and depth of the works.

Later in the learning process, he repeatedly stressed to me that any artistic creation process is a very important part. At the beginning of creation, we need to consider what inspiration is, for what purpose, and how inspiration leads to the final result. Step by step is the correct design process.

The establishment of this methodology is very helpful to my collection creation and future learning process!

Q: Do you have any suggestions for students who want to apply for Huangyi?

W: The most sincere suggestion from my heart is to prepare the collection of works as soon as possible! As applicants, we are passive. We never know what new ideas will come out of colleges and universities. The best way is to make full preparations and turn passive into active!

For those students who are still preparing for the second round of application, my suggestion is to think about how to do the two minute video. Personally, I think this part is very important, and even partially replaces the interview function.

Because the investigation points of each major are different, you can think about what the university wants to answer according to the questions given by the university, how to organize the language, and make every sentence as accurate as possible.

However, my video has been changed for 5 or 6 times. Finally, my teacher suggested visualizing my learning plan according to Huang Yi's questions and curriculum design. At that time, there was a question about whether I had read any books about critical thinking. It happened that I had spent basic time during my undergraduate period, so I was lucky to be within my "range".

Finally, I would like to talk about Amway's digital media major, which is very comprehensive and interdisciplinary. It can involve animation, photography, video, installation, interaction In a word, this is a very interesting and promising subject. If you have interdisciplinary ideas, I also suggest you try it!

   The teacher said:

Today's interview experience of student W has a lot of reference for students applying this year. Due to the development of the epidemic situation, natural light has been actively communicating with various colleges and universities. At present, it has been confirmed that SCAD will cancel the on-site interview in Shanghai and change the form of telephone interview, and Lunyi will also cancel the on-site interview in Beijing in February and March.

Whether this year's emergencies or the interviewers' unconventional behavior, the interview, as the last step to enter the Dream School, has always been the assessment stage that we worry about and attach importance to. Through W's experience, we also found that the confidence of interview is largely based on the excellence of your portfolio, whether your creative process is attentive, whether your research is sufficient, and whether your professional ability is solid enough

And interview skills and different interview forms are also the teaching focus that Natural Light has always adhered to. Whether it is a one-on-one interview simulation exercise on the front line, or the continuous 1v1 simulation interview of the admissions officer at the later stage of the application, we have truly achieved that the admissions officer and overseas professors control the overall situation in the teaching process, and directly guarantee the application results of students.

In addition, for the epidemic, Natural Light will also launch long-term online training and teaching of works from February. Relying on the intelligent cloud platform and miracle platform of Hongcheng Education Group's powerful online teaching system, Natural Light will simultaneously launch live broadcast, video recording and other forms of free online classes. The cloud will share art education resources, bringing an undifferentiated online interactive experience. Teachers will track students' learning progress at any time through the online system, and realize barrier free teaching services during the epidemic by combining the free master open class, overseas admissions officer open class and other exclusive online resources.
