Your portfolio should demonstrate your diverse abilities in art, design, and media. You need to show that you are a visual communicator. This can include any combination in traditional, electronic media or any combination. Please remember, for OCAD of Ontario University of Art and Design, the most important factor is your creativity and extensive use of various media.


No more than five projects and no more than 15 pictures of the applicant's portfolio; The duration of a Quicktime movie or other video file does not exceed 3 minutes.


Applicants need to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of their application fields, and encourage applicants to submit work cases involving interdisciplinary subjects. The portfolio should be the best work (including form, concept and content) that can represent the applicant's ability.


Applicants need to present their work in the past 12 months through a large number of images. At the same time, the works must be accompanied by no more than 250 words of artist/designer instructions.


The description needs to involve recent work and explain its relevance to the research plan. It is suggested to discuss the direction of your practice, your existing professional knowledge, and how you want to grow during your postgraduate study. The list of works to be submitted should be included in the works collection.

   Undergraduate Freshmen Application Portfolio Guidance


All majors at Ontario University of Art and Design require applicants to submit a statement of intent, which should not exceed 300 to 350 words. After receiving the application, you will receive a request email about Statement of Intent. Works without Statement will not be judged.


1. No more than 10 original works of art, design or media, and creation logs or sketch books that can display the creation process


2. Works directly related to the application profession can demonstrate the ability to create widely using technology, materials and specific things, including 2D, 3D, time benchmark, lens benchmark, data or works in traditional media forms


3. In case of on-site evaluation, the original is recommended when the work can be easily carried. If the work is too large and difficult to transport, or fragile, or the site is limited, the applicant can display it with electronic pictures or photos, so there is no other size limit.


4. If possible, it is strongly recommended that the applicant bring a laptop computer to display electronic or time based works in the on-site evaluation. A certain number of computer operations are allowed during the audit process.


5. Paintings can be positive perspective, such as human body, still life, interior, landscape, or imagination and memory works. Please display your work in a flat manner, without curling, stacking or framing. Please enjoy exploring color, form and diversified media, or three-dimensional works, such as installations, models, jewelry, soft sculpture or hard sculpture.


The Ontario University of Art and Design portfolio requires the above items. Your portfolio is a collection of work, representing your personal creativity, technical experience and achievements.
