　　 Portfolio Project I:<Farewell>

My first work is called<Farewell>, which means farewell. Because I experienced the death of a loved one for the first time, it made me very sad and had a profound impact on me, and also became a source of inspiration for me.

I found that in social groups we often cannot face death correctly. How to face death and farewell has become a problem I am thinking about recently. Through the form of performance art and installation to create, so as to express my way of facing death and understanding of death and farewell.

I made a wearable device to perform interactively with people. The creation elements of wearable devices in the series of works are mainly extracted from various traces before the death of relatives, such as the main role in family relations, personality, physical state before death and the root cause of death. Finally, it is completed in the form of photography and video recording.

This is my favorite work. Because I think it has my own understanding and style.

　　 Project summary: Xie majored in industrial design as an undergraduate, and applied for studying in the United States as a pure master of art. In the teaching of natural light, we have always particularly encouraged students to try "interdisciplinary" creation, but in fact, the process from idea to landing is usually not particularly smooth (there is no reason not to experience a little wind and rain if you want to take an offer!), after all, only a few people have multidisciplinary backgrounds at the same time.

When an idea is finally finalized after numerous overthrows and reconstructions, it may face huge workload and many accidents in the implementation process, or the gap between the final product of the work and your expectations is very large. This reflects the necessity of teachers' continuous discussion with students in the early stage, and the discussion with experienced teachers can predict the possible situation in a timely manner, so as to avoid the situation that the project can not go on and waste time later. When students like Xie, who have industrial design background, change their major and apply for studying in the United States, the teacher can predict that each link can be realized when discussing, because there is a combination of students' original majors.

But students need to know the fact that even with other professional backgrounds, they will still encounter a lot of difficulties and problems in the production process of the work collection, and even many students will have the idea of giving up when they encounter bottlenecks. But at this time, we must stick to it, communicate with teachers and students more, and after breakthrough, there will be great improvement, At that time, I will feel that all the efforts are worthwhile.

　　 Portfolio project 2:<Tagging>

The second work is called<Tagging>, which is mainly about the topic of labels. Because I am very easy to lack self-confidence, it is easy to care about other people's words and comments. This reminds me of a social group like me, where the labeled symbol definition is magnified infinitely, so many people may also be troubled by the same problem.

So I collected other people's evaluations of "me", reflected the relationship between labeling and behavior through process records, and transformed the feelings in the whole work interaction process into a visual form, becoming an installation work in the visual form, to express this self-confident mental activity. It is also hoped that these can lead to some public reflection and so on.

　　 Project summary: The biggest difference between pure art and design is that art is the expression of pure personal feelings and thoughts. Although design has developed to express more ideas, most of the time it still serves the society, business and people. The pure art we are talking about here does not mean how excellent the painting ability is. It can draw people or objects as well as photos. The real pure art moves people with ideas.

The premise of having your own unique ideas is to be yourself and keep yourself. You can see that all artists are really themselves, and it is difficult for people without themselves to make their works attractive. However, such people may feel tired when doing design, because their ideas need to be played and compromised with the owners and the market, and it is difficult to get a balance in the relationship with design.

Like Xie, after four years of design study, he found that he actually preferred pure art and wanted to express himself more, so I decided to change my major and apply for studying in the United States as a master of pure art. In the teaching of natural light, it is always emphasized to communicate with students, to have a comprehensive understanding of students, and to provide targeted curriculum according to the needs of each student, so as to help students extract the most interesting professional direction in art learning and creation, guide students to better understand themselves and make works with the most personal characteristics, Let admissions officers and colleges see the artist characteristics of students.

The third project is called<Impersonation>, which is about imprisonment. This project is a work that I worked with another student to complete.

We are mainly concerned about the mental health problems of minors that have broken out in the current society, such as bullying, violence, and harm to children caused by family reasons. This makes them become autistic, inferiority complex, lack of self-confidence and so on. Most of them confine themselves in a narrow inner world, estrangement with their parents, no friends, no one understands.

These social news aroused our attention to minors. Through the research on their behaviors, actions and states, I extracted their attitudes from their behaviors, and expressed their ideas by connecting with space. I want to use this combination of space and characters to express their inner state. It is also used to express our understanding of the state of imprisonment in the minds of minors.

I hope that we can appeal to the society to care for the physical and mental health of minors through art. I also think it is necessary for us to appeal to the public to care for the physical and mental health of minors.

　　 Project summary: As we mentioned above, the difference between pure art and design is that pure art focuses more on the expression of personal feelings, but everyone should not mistake "personal mood diary" for pure art. Of course, pure art should also have its own value.

For example, when I talked with my classmates at the beginning of the collection creation, many of them would reflect that they had many works with great visual effects that they wanted to put into the collection, but they were rejected by the teacher. The reason is that even though the pictures are very beautiful, the creation stage of overseas college's collection should look at the world as an artist and "social person".

At the same time, we should gradually explore who we are in the process of making the portfolio? What do you want to express through your works? What kind of thinking can I hope to bring to the audience? Is what you are doing really meaningful? These problems actually point to a key word, that is, social value.

In addition to professional ability and logical thinking, overseas colleges and universities also attach great importance to students' artistic quality, which includes the depth of thought. The works of art they want to see are not nothing but good looking. Only the embodiment of "literature", "history" and "philosophy" in the works can make the students' artistic path go further. This is also the reason why art schools have set up many general education courses related to theory and history in foundation year.

The application of social topics in the works can not only help students enhance their social cognitive ability, but also reflect their own cognition, understanding and attention to the society in the works through the thinking triggered by these profound topics. In the future, learning after truly entering colleges and universities will also bring more dimensions of comprehensive improvement.

　　 The last portfolio project:<Parasitism>

The last work is called<Parasitism>, which is about parasitism. The main material is ceramics.

This inspiration is because I read a book called "Parasite Atlas" in college. It is based on a real parasite museum in Tokyo. The book explains the creatures living in an incredible world through interesting narrative techniques and illustrations. The meaning of parasitism is that two kinds of creatures live together, one gains, the other suffers, and the latter provides nutrition and living space for the former. The relationship between these creatures is called parasitism. After reading it, I find it very interesting.

Through this parasitic relationship in the natural way of life, I have some ideas about the current society, which is related to the relationship between people in society. For example, the relationship between people, the excessive relationship between parents and children, and even the exploitation between men and women. These have also formed some parasitic states in society.

So, through the comparison between this natural form and the form of human society, I studied and integrated the relationship between their forms, materials and people, and carried out a series of thinking and exploration from the biological parasitic relationship in the natural world to the parasitic relationship in human society. Finally, I produced a work focusing on ceramics, presenting the expression of parasitism.

I also think this work is very consistent with the thinking about many things happening today. And I think that young people and artists have such a responsibility to pay attention to problems and appeal to everyone to pay attention together.

In the teaching of natural light, the teacher often gives students proposition assignments. Like a former student majoring in photography who told me that he was "trapped" by his art teacher, he always gets some proposition with only one word and lets him interpret it with photography, so that he can't think of anything and doesn't feel right about how to shoot it. However, in the later stage, through discussions with teachers, we analyzed the theme in the discussion to find inspiration, or saw some works of masters, and gradually developed divergent thinking ability and photographed some things.
