College Profile

California Academy of Arts (California College of the Arts), referred to as CCA. Founded in 1907, it officially had the name of California College of the Arts and Craft (CCAC) in 1936, and changed to the shorter California College of the Arts (CCA) in 2003. The Chinese translation is often confused because it is similar to the CalArts in Southern California. Although both CalArts and CalArts belong to art schools, their strengths are different. CCA focuses on the field of design, while CalArts is famous for its experimental art and animation media. The school is divided into two campuses, one in downtown San Francisco and the other in Auckland.

The California Academy of Arts is one of the most prestigious experimental art schools in the world. The school was founded by Frederick Meyer, who is a landscape architect and occupies a seat in the design and craft movement in the 20th century. In addition, CCA alumni are mostly leaders of California's contemporary graphic design movement, including Robert Arneson Michael Vanderbyl、Lucille Tenazas。 The famous alumni of the school are also the concept artist Dennis Oppenheim (famous for his work Launching Structure # 2 in Vancouver in 1982).

CCA has a total of 21 departments, while the Institute has 11 departments. The teachers of the school must have formal jobs outside of teaching, so in addition to teaching students, the teachers are also famous designers and artists working in the industry.

Two campuses

Auckland: The historic Auckland campus has older buildings (town houses), sculptures and paintings. Most of the departments and studios of pure art are also here. This campus offers courses in Animation Department, Ceramic Art Department, Glass Technology Department, Jewelry and Metalworking Design Department, Photography Department, Sculpture Department, Printmaking Department, Textile Department, Public Art, Visual Research, Writing and Literature. It is only two miles away from the University of Southern California, Berkeley. And Art Institute of Chicago Both are art universities.

San Francisco: CCA's modern San Francisco campus is located near Mount Portrero, just a few blocks away from the Research Institute of the University of California, San Francisco.

CCA's campus in San Francisco is roughly divided into three schools: Fine Arts, Design and Architecture. All design departments including graphic, illustration, interactive design, industry, architecture, furniture and fashion design are located here. The school is like a large studio for everyone to use. Most of the courses of the Institute are also located here. It is suggested that students who want to apply should visit the campus first. The school belongs to the WASC American West Coast Education Alliance, and is a member of NAAB American Architectural Board, NASAD National Design Association, and FIDER National Institute of Interior Design Education and Research.

At the same time, the school encourages students to participate in group discussions in addition to independent learning to help themselves and others achieve their academic goals faster and better.

2. Undergraduate students are easier to apply for, because there are preparatory courses, it is more difficult for graduate students to apply. The number of applicants for admission mainly depends on the number of applicants in that year. The number of applicants for 14 years is relatively moderate, so the number of applicants is also relatively large. So far this year, 2015 has not seen too many applications. In addition, the majors are different, and the application difficulty is also different. For example, interior architecture is relatively easy to apply. This major is a major that combines interior design with architectural design. However, interaction design and film majors are relatively difficult to apply for, and it is also difficult to change majors, especially the interaction design major.
