College Profile

New York Fashion Institute (Fashion Institute of Technology, referred to as FIT) New York Institute of Fashion Technology is an internationally famous clothing and art design college. Founded in 1944, it is a public school, but has maintained a good cooperative relationship with private enterprises for many years. Accessories Design


The AAS course mainly aims to cultivate students' painting and molding skills, as well as accessory design and production technology. Students can also learn the trade of accessory design.

Advertising Design

Advertising and Marketing Media

Computer Animation and Interactive Media


The two-year BFA course provides a unique opportunity to hone creativity and technical skills while learning the business of computer animation and interaction design. The clothing design course of New York Fashion Academy provides technical training on fashion art and clothing design. Illustration


The illustration course of New York Fashion Academy includes imitating real scenes and helping to improve your skills in presenting existing projects to customers or managers. According to your interest, you can choose a major from fashion or general illustration. Fashion illustration focuses on drawing, rendering, and writing manuscripts to introduce completed illustrations, emphasizing recent fashion, accessories, beauty products and perfumes. General illustration emphasizes drawing, idea of conception, forming effective images and mastering technical visual communication skills. Most students take BFA courses. This more advanced course focuses on business application skills, enabling students to expand their work and opportunities for additional training in animation, documentary art, book illustration, and computer-generated illustration. Students can choose to study in Florence, Italy in summer to learn the global language of illustration.


Interior design


The two-year AAS course teaches basic elements of design, including space planning, lighting design and color application, materials and furniture. In the last semester, students will search for a building and plan to convert it to different uses. Previous projects included the conversion of multi-storey row into a non-profit facility, complete galleries, gift shops, offices, meeting places and private residences. In the next two years of BFA courses, you will master more advanced design technologies and apply them to complex building types, including city halls, rural and holiday homes, retail stores, and government and religious facilities. Students will complete a two semester advanced thesis project.


Jewelry Design


Key basic skills in the first year - jewelry design, sculpture, casting, drafting and fashion jewelry. In the second year, students will choose design or studio and take more specialized courses to develop their professional knowledge. In the design options, students will focus on the aesthetic elements of fashion and jewelry. Students should learn to convert 2D rendering to 3D design. Learning includes cost estimation, design analysis, manufacturing methods, and line construction, as well as fashion forecasting, market analysis, and world development trends. The technical design course covers the grading of technical elements and marking specifications. Students will understand the important relationship between technical design, production and manufacturing cycle. Textile/surface design


The course combines traditional and digital practical applications, and uses the latest theories of computer aided design (CAD) technology. Toy design

Fabric pattern


FIT is the only school in the United States that offers a major in fabric style. Fabric designers are an important link connecting design, presentation and finished products. The requirements for the collection of overseas works of undergraduate students of New York Fashion Institute:


Once the application is accepted, the applicant will be invited by the university to submit the collection of works. If not invited, please do not send the collection of works for art study abroad. Most majors submit art study abroad collections through Slideroom, but some majors cannot use Slideroom yet. The college will contact applicants to send art study abroad collections by email.


The collection of overseas art works should mainly include visual works, such as sketch and color painting. A variety of media forms can be used, such as charcoal, pencil, watercolor, acrylic and oil paint. Composition is very important. Computer works can be used, but they should not be the main part. Let the art teacher help you choose from recent works. You'd better take a preparatory course.


Special Requirements for Studying Abroad in Accessories Design Major of New York Fashion College


To apply for the major of accessory design for art study abroad, you need to submit an article and a collection of art study abroad works.


Write 9 to 12 accessory commentaries. And in 350 words, answer the following questions: If you had the opportunity to meet an artist or a designer, who could be dead or alive, who would you choose? What three questions would you ask him/her? Why?


The collection of overseas works of art should contain 5 to 7 creative works, and should add 2 to 3 pages of sketch books. New York Fashion Institute graduate students' overseas work collection requirements:


1. Exhibition design:


20 design works, including AutoCad or Vectorworks sketches; Skilled use of Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop; 3D works. Bonus points will be given for submitting manual creation and other software works. Photography, painting, sculpture or other media works can also be included in the collection of overseas art works.


2. Illustrative design works:


Submit 15-20 works. The sketch must be included. The image format is LOW-RES (72 pixels). The works of illustration design that do not meet the requirements will not be considered. Slides, original works or website links are not acceptable.

FIT has produced many famous and well-known design masters in the fashion industry, so it has also attracted a large number of students to study fashion design here. Since the New York Fashion Institute does not provide MFA, it has not been ranked by USNEWS. However, the master's courses provided by the New York Fashion Institute are quite unique, and interested students should not miss them.


The application process of New York Fashion College for art study abroad is: fill in the application form first, and send it to the school together with the composition required by the school. The school will reply a letter to the applicant, telling the applicant the collection of works, design drawings, recommendation letters, etc. that need to be prepared. Be sure to follow the process, interview is possible, but not everyone needs to interview.
