College Profile

The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, founded in 1857 with the support of philanthropist George Peabody (a famous American banker in the 19th century and the founder of the Morgan Consortium), is one of the first and most famous music schools in the United States. It was incorporated into Hopkins University in 1977.

The purpose of Peabody College is: to promote and improve people's spiritual world with artists. Since then, the Academy has concentrated on training musicians of all ages and educational levels, mobilizing and tapping their musical potential, so that they can get artistic promotion. Peabody College of Music has therefore become a leader in Maryland's cultural and artistic life. Thanks to the hard work of teachers, the college has become one of the three major music schools in the United States, as well as the Julia Conservatory and Eastman Conservatory.

With the support of the founders of the Morgan Foundation, Hopkins has born the first and most famous music academy in the United States. Hopkins' main campus is located in Baltimore, Maryland, the United States, and its branch campus is located in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. It has teaching campuses in Nanjing University and Bologna, Italy.

The main campus of Hopkins University is divided into 140 acres of picturesque Homewood, 3 miles north of the Renaissance Inner Harbor in Baltimore. The square courtyard with green trees, the classical Georgian red brick building, the open grassland and the playground in the campus create an idyllic and pleasant scenery at the edge of the downtown area. Other campuses are scattered in different areas of Baltimore and nearby towns.

The Johns Hopkins University library system has a total collection of more than 3.6 million books. The library system is mainly composed of 10 departments, including Sheridan Libraries at Homewood, Welch The Welch Medical Library, the Medical Institution Libraries, the School of Nursing Library, Abraham M. Lilienfeld Library at the Bloomberg School, the Peabody Institute Library, The Carey Business School and School of Education libraries, the School of Advanced International Studies Libraries, The R.E. Gibson Library at the Applied Physics Laboratory Library and other smaller libraries.
