The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, founded in 1857 with the support of philanthropist George Peabody (a famous American banker in the 19th century and the founder of the Morgan Consortium), is one of the first and most famous music schools in the United States. It was incorporated into Hopkins University in 1977.
