art education
Art education combines art and teaching into one profession. Each student will be trained to become an artist with ideas and learn to design teaching strategies. Both teachers and students actively participate in and focus on visual culture research, critical thinking and theory, exhibition, assessment and curriculum, and the art world of emerging digital technology (virtual and interactive). The art education major focuses on interdisciplinary communication and learning within the art college and VCU. Through research and teaching, future art teachers will enable students and themselves to improve their knowledge and strength of the profession in traditional and non-traditional teaching forms. Students of art education receive a BFA degree that is more valued than BA. Graduates can teach art or further study in elementary schools, middle schools or high schools in 48 states of the United States.
Art History
Both art history and agricultural history are involved in this BA major, and they provide a strong foundation for art history, theory and practice, creating an art historian who is knowledgeable and talented. Students learn two-dimensional and three-dimensional art works through various media, including painting, photography, sculpture, architecture, film and performing arts. The subject has also begun to involve popular pictures and corporate culture. Art historians study the creation, significance and reception of works, as well as their social, political and historical backgrounds. Students of this major often participate in internships or extracurricular courses. In recent trips, students and teachers have gone to Peru, Scotland, Tibet, Ecuador, Spain and other places.
film
VCU's film major prepares young film producers for their career path or graduate study. This major is a BA degree, with emphasis on humanities. Students are guided by professional filmmakers who use high-end digital film equipment. This major focuses on developing students' ability to narrate movies and combining new digital technology with the best production technology learned in the United States, Europe and the world (becoming the standard for independent producers). Those who major in this major can get credits through Summer Production Intensives, and they can graduate in three years. Film majors can also easily choose a second major in non art fields.
Fashion design and procurement
BFA fashion major BFA students are trained to design clothes that express people's personality. Designers combine the creativity of artists with the actual needs of consumers to provide multi-level objects. Not only should the body be worn to comply with social conventions, but also the spirit must be nourished and satisfied with the soul.
BA is now a big business, employing tens of millions of people to design, manufacture, distribute, retail, advertising, marketing, communication, publishing and consulting. BA students majoring in fashion purchasing can skillfully plan and purchase the right goods: at the right time, in the right place, at the right price and in the right promotion. The courses of this major are global based, and students can access world fashion, import/export, procurement, management, mold making and clothing structure. At the same time, our teaching team members often act as judges in some prestigious international fashion design competitions.
Graphic Artist Designer
Graphic design at Virginia Commonwealth University is a creative and analytical process that combines art and technology to exchange ideas and information from the client to the audience. There are three related fields: printing design, timing design and interaction design. The main goal of the graphic design course is to train students to integrate forms and information with the purpose of effective visual communication. This highly ranked major encourages different problem-solving methods, innovative research, and innovative research in various forms of communication. It also emphasizes the understanding of social issues, the ethical issues of new technologies and the integration with the natural environment.

Interior design
Students majoring in interior design at Virginia Commonwealth University are creative thinkers who can solve problems with innovative solutions or the existing environment nearby. Students are working in a studio based on indoor architecture. Students follow teachers with diverse professional backgrounds in interior design, architecture and landscape design. Our positive relationship with many construction enterprises in the region means a wealth of professional lectures, guest speakers, internships and international research tourism. This specialty is certified by CIDA. In 2012, VCU ranked the tenth in the national interior design profession in Design Intelligence.
Dynamic imaging
The dynamic imaging major is intended for students with vivid imagination and endless curiosity. It is crucial for video, sound or critical thinking and innovation, because these definitions are re examined in the changing media theory and technical possibilities. Students may acquire the skills they need in various media industries, but more importantly, they will learn to think critically and observe, express themselves creatively, and redefine the use and meaning of media in the digital age. In particular, students learn how to use video, animation, and sound for artistic creation, self-expression, and experiments, and learn alternative videos and 2D and 3D animation.
Our graduates work as freelancers, sports graphic artists, animators, video editors, sound engineers, web designers, graphic designers, film producers, artists in game companies, news editors, etc.
Painting and Printmaking
Teachers and students learn in a professional and innovative environment. Undergraduate courses enable students to pay special attention to the subject and learn the interests of art colleges, universities and other fields in society in the form of elective courses. This major also allows students to customize courses suitable for their career and personal aspirations. More and more high-quality courses have made us recognized leaders in the field of visual arts education. According to the graduate rankings of US News and World Report, our school ranks seventh in painting and tenth in printmaking in China.
Students can learn only painting or printmaking, or both. Printmaking facilities can be used for intaglio, relief, lithography, digital, and screen printing.
Photography and Film
VCU's photography and film BFA is the only photography and film professional degree in the region. After graduation, students can obtain a BFA degree and can specialize in photography, film, or both. Students learn the appropriate techniques and concepts to begin their careers as professional artists or commercial photographers.
Every semester, film majors produce, direct, shoot and edit their dramas, experimental films or documentaries. Here, students can not only gain experience as team members, but also communicate with local enterprises and organizations as interns.
Sculpture and Extended Media
US News and World Report ranked VCU's graduate sculpture major first in the country, while senior undergraduate students and graduate teachers are the same. The fact is the best proof of our achievements: we attract challenge loving, talented and curious students from all over the country and the world. More than 100 undergraduate students majoring in sculpture make it one of the largest sculpture majors in the United States.
Students in this major will learn countless construction methods and technologies, and learn how to communicate ideas through works of art. We believe that "extended media" includes many non-traditional technologies, such as video, sound, performance, installation, robotics, 3D digital modeling and more. Undergraduate students have enjoyed their semi private studio and enviable state-of-the-art equipment since the first day.
