CMU, by virtue of its supreme position in the computer field, is also the first university in the world to offer a graduate degree in interaction design. The interaction design specialty of CMU University belongs to the famous computer school, not the art department, but focuses more on the computer technology in human-computer interaction. How about CMU university interaction design? How about the curriculum?
How about CMU university interaction design?
Carnegie Mellon University CMU's Master of Human Computer Interaction (MHCI) program is a three-year degree. In CMU's positioning, it is a career program related to user experience design and user centered research. MHCI integrates service and design ideas into strict HCI courses to help students prepare for the future of interaction between designers and instructors and technology.

MHCI curriculum is composed of a team of teachers who lead and define the HCI field and have made great contributions. It gathers professionals from computer science, cognitive psychology, behavioral science, and art design. The diversified team of teachers provides the original impetus and help for interdisciplinary research in HCI.

In the three-year course, students also learn the subject knowledge in this field in stages. In the first academic year, students will learn the core methodology and professional technology of HCI in compulsory courses, and customize their own academic courses through a large number of elective courses of CMU Computer College.

While completing the second and third semesters, students will continue to take a variety of elective courses and complete a substantive industry project with external customers. In many interviews with CMU alumni, it is mentioned that this 7-month practical course is the most practical course in their academic career.
This famous course is called Capstone Course, which is a research and design team project cooperating with external industry customers. It is also the most valuable and challenging course in MHCI discipline. Although the courses and requirements of this project are extremely high, it provides students with valuable experience in user centered research, iterative design and product development, and helps more students to step out of the laboratory and into the business world.
The structure of the Capstone project covers the complete life cycle of interactive products from development to landing. Every 4-6 students of MHCI major form a team, whose cooperation companies range from pioneering companies to globally famous brands.

Student teams will work with mentors and their industry partners to conduct user research, product design, and interactive prototyping to improve or design new products for partners. The final result of this project is to show the final prototype of the team before graduation, and there are many possibilities for commercial promotion.
Since the first class of students in 1997, CMU's human-computer interaction major has had more than 700 graduates this year. Most of them have become user researchers, interaction designers, product managers, entrepreneurs and software developers, and are defining a completely new way of human interaction with technology.
