Graphic Communication
Reading University offers a unique bachelor's degree in graphic communication, whose outstanding performance has been widely recognized. During the three years of study, students are challenged to create diversity and intelligence, which prepares them for an exciting design career.
Students undertake a large number of projects directed by professional designers. The project explores a wide range of issues, including books, catalogues, posters, paper money, CDs, stamps, maps, wayfinding and symbol systems, exhibitions, websites, mobile phone interfaces, applications, screen widgets and more. Students create visual effects, prototypes and specifications, and project workbooks to document their design process. There are also actual studio projects. Students are engaged in professional work, involving real customers, actual budget and resource management. Professional tasks often involve close cooperation with our prepress team, many of which are printed in the internal design and printing studio. When students graduate, they have gained valuable experience in dealing with customers and printers, and have prepared a portfolio, including professional printing design jobs or work websites.
Although the course of graphic communication focuses on practical work, it also emphasizes the history and theory of design through lectures and seminars, as well as "hands-on" use and research of special design collections and archives.
