Before I interviewed Wei Yaquan, I carefully read his award-winning work, which is a comprehensive brand image design for a concept restaurant. He proposed the restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, and named it after Minorities Kitchen, a restaurant for ethnic minorities.
As an ethnic minority, Wei Yaquan himself has a unique feeling for the traditional culture of ethnic minorities. He said that his initial, vague impression of ethnic minority culture is that his grandparents carried his backpack when they were young When he grew up, he turned these vague and trivial memories into the source of his inspiration.
The elements of ethnic minorities in the design will make me feel familiar and strange to the audience. What is familiar is the vague impression of the colors of ethnic minorities, and what is strange is the way Wei Yaquan shows it to the world.
He broke the stereotype of the concept of "ethnic minorities" in most people's minds, extracted the most profound and profound colors and patterns, and reconstructed and arranged them. He extracted the colors that often appear in 100 totem patterns of ethnic minorities, selected four relatively frequent colors after screening and comparison, took these four colors as the main elements of his design, and reconstructed the ethnic minorities in the eyes of viewers through his own understanding of young design.
What he said is that this kind of strangeness with a sense of familiarity is actually what we often say about creativity and novelty, which is also the most direct impression of his graphic design. It belongs to the simplicity and lines of the 21st century, and belongs to the historical minority culture. He uses creativity to find a way for the culture in history to live in modern society.
As he said, the national culture still has language restrictions after all, but there is no communication limit after it is converted into graphic design. Visual information is the common language of all human beings Art Design Words are used to tell the nation, so that the nation he is proud of can remain in the memory of more people.
In addition to the design itself, Wei Yaquan also wants to use the "restaurant" to express the humanistic care in his design. Today's pace of life is really too fast. The ancients had to chop firewood to burn a fire for a meal. They had to slowly cook the meal and slowly cook the soup. Now the takeaway fast food saves not only time, but also the kind of mind immersed in one thing.
In fact, what we are afraid of is never the fast pace of life. What we are afraid of is that our thoughts become numb and stiff by the fast pace of life. Wei Yaquan is trying to use his Minorities Kitchen to save people trapped in the three-point line In his eyes, "food" is not only a time to fill the famine, but also a time of warmth The emotional filling brought by "meal" cannot be replaced. He wants to bring the Chinese table culture to New York, so that more people can enjoy the warmth, leave a corner in the metropolis, sit around his design, and talk.
When I met him, he was already excellent. When discussing the collection of graphic design works of Minorities Kitchen with him, our teacher found that his young head was full of creativity, and he had a vision that his peers did not have. We want every student to get an offer from Dream School, but more importantly, let every student get more than one offer. Just like Wei Yaquan's Minorities Kitchen, he won numerous awards with this collection of works, and had taken a big step towards his dream before getting the offer.

T H E B O O K H O U S E · Bookstore
The Book House is a concept bookstore integrating reading culture and themed coffee. It will be opened in Manhattan, New York, the most central cultural and art center in the United States. The e-commerce platform quickly seized the user resources of physical bookstores, and the traditional bookstore brand needs to create a better bookstore experience for customers through a diversified brand mechanism. The brand image design takes simplicity as the starting point, and the rectangular outline of traditional books as the basic design element. Through the combination of basic design elements, words and other graphics, it extends a series of interesting visual applications from the core image design to the guide design, highlighting the unique temperament of the brand and expressing the unique attitude and spirit of the current consumer groups.
W E I Y A Q U A N · Image Design
This is the brand image I designed for myself, which is overlapped with the common points of the three letters "W", "Y" and "Q" to form my personal logo. The color of the whole brand design is black and white, mainly to highlight my simple design style. Use words and short sentences to replace unnecessary auxiliary patterns, and have a hypothetical dialogue with the audience, so that there is a communication between the plane and the audience.

The packaging logo is inspired by the hills and sunrises with natural flavor and Chinese cultural beliefs, and its shape and characters are combined. The package is divided into three flavors: "lemon", "cherry" and "blueberry". The design uses the style of Chinese watercolor painting to describe the corresponding fruit. The three solid color blocks are taken from the shape of chocolate, and the color is filled with the national color of Chinese watercolor painting. The overall packaging is simple and generous, with a faint Chinese style on the avant-garde format composition and black wrapping paper.
G o l d e n M e l o d y A w a r d s · Golden Melody Award
The Golden Melody Awards 2016 is a music award ceremony, and the mixer and volume lines are my first instinct. Through the graphic extraction of images, I took the extracted rectangle, square and lines as the basic design elements of this set of brand image design. The use of curved lines and mobilized color blocks to express the sense of rhythm and design of music, thus extending a set of brand image design.
