Behind her multiple identities and roles, she is an outstanding graduate of RISD and the current enrollment consultant of Rhode Island School of Design; For most art overseas students, face-to-face and one-on-one communication with designers/brand consultants at this level and recruitment consultants who have reviewed enrollment experience for many years is a rare opportunity. However, natural light has always maintained long-term teaching cooperation with Jennifer; For example, in the enrollment season last year, Jennifer visited 6 campuses of Natural Light, bringing many activities for students, such as collection review, college interpretation, application and question answering.
Jennifer, RISD admissions consultant, interviewed:
And natural light American art study It was also an exclusive interview with Jennifer. Jennifer not only explained the other side of Rhode Island for everyone, but also gave some advice to students who were preparing for the application. Let's take a look!
Rhode Island School of Design:
Rhode Island is a four-year school for undergraduate students. The first year is the base year. At this point, when you apply for undergraduate education in high school, you don't have to decide your major in a hurry. What you need to ensure is that you have a solid foundation when you enter the school.
In the next two, three and four years, you will study your chosen major, depending on your chosen major. In the first semester of the second year, you will have a deep understanding of your major and truly understand the skills you have learned, and then each major will begin to focus on what you have learned.
On the whole, Rhode Island is more about teaching creative thinking, not only to train you to be a good technician, but also to become an excellent creative thinker.
In terms of employment, Rhode Island graduates will get a lot of support, because we have trained such a way of thinking. We also have a Rhode Island collection page, where you can publish all your works. Many professionals will view Rhode Island collection to find freelancers and job seekers.
In this respect, I think there is more studio space in Rhode Island. This school is very large, and the screening is very strict. There is less space for students and more space. There is a very good teacher-student ratio. So in your foundation year, the teacher-student ratio is 20 to 1. 20 students correspond to one teacher. Once you choose a major, the ratio is about 15 students to one teacher, so teaching is very focused, and you can freely cooperate more. Participate in many truly challenging creative thinking projects, and truly grow into a creative thinker.
What are the preparations for the portfolio?
The first is to show your professional skills and knowledge, including all kinds of media, 2D/3D digital media, to show the span, but also to show your perception skills. Therefore, the scope of exhibition should not only include very traditional research expertise, but also include very modern, very conceptual things to truly show the richness of ideas. Show the different ways you observe things at the same time.
The skills in the second part need to really show your own ideas. You must show your story, what you are interested in, the uniqueness of being an artist or designer, and what makes you different from others.
Then the third part shows your adventurous spirit and production process, so they actually want to see your way of thinking as an artist. So maybe you should set aside about 2 slides to show the process of making a draft page or something.
If you are working on a big project, such as an art installation, or trying to make a movie about it, don't do PDF or too many pages. Show the real key points, make sure the photos are large enough, and don't have too much information on each page.
Above is Jennifer's brief introduction to the requirements of RISD and portfolio of Rhode Island School of Design; In the twinkling of an eye, 2019 has come to March, and soon another group of students will start to apply in 2020. How can we obtain the most authoritative college guide in the application season? Now, Natural Light invites Jennifer Chung, an artist, designer, admissions consultant and other multiple identities, to bring you the most comprehensive interpretation of art study abroad with industry qualifications and admissions officer experience, and to improve your collection of works face to face with major admissions consultants, Overseas training More possibilities!

1.How to look for the right school for you
-March 6, 7:00 p.m-
How to choose art schools for studying abroad?
How can we really understand a college?
How can Yang determine whether a college is really suitable for him?
The education system of overseas colleges and universities is very different from that of domestic colleges and universities. Students preparing to go abroad need to spend a lot of time and energy on searching official websites for information in order to do their homework well in school selection. However, how to choose the most suitable school is still the most difficult problem for many students and parents, because for art students, school selection should be based on their own conditions, The measurement standards vary from person to person.
There are many important factors to refer to when choosing schools. Due to the teaching mode of art majors, the proportion of teachers and students and the strength of teachers are very important. Students will naturally get more guidance and be affected more differently if many to one. Secondly, the location of the school is also very important for art majors. Some students may only pay attention to colleges and majors, but in fact, the geographical location, surrounding environment and artistic atmosphere have a great impact on learning and creation.
In addition to the teachers and coordinates, the points to be considered in school selection also include the facilities of the school studio, strong majors, curriculum, employment support, school or major rankings, admission criteria... What else should be considered? According to your own situation, what are the primary considerations? What are the secondary considerations?
2.How to prepare a good portfolio? What do the admissions look for?
-March 13, 7:00 p.m-
What is the standard for admissions officers?
How on earth is the admissions officer reviewing my portfolio?
What kind of works collection can attract the attention of the admissions officer?
Overseas art colleges and domestic colleges have different review systems. Although overseas colleges and universities do not need examinations, in fact, the collection of works is the assessment of students. The first step to deal with the examination is, of course, examination of questions.
So before preparing a portfolio, the first thing is to understand what is a portfolio? Why do admissions officers need to see your portfolio? How is a good portfolio defined and what are the criteria? What does the admissions officer want to see in the collection? Then think about what you need to show according to these.
Should we show our ability or ideas in the work collection? What is the best way to present the process? What proportion of your ideas, preferences, experience and abilities should be distributed in the works? Based on her years of experience as an admissions consultant, Jennifer summarized the characteristics of a good collection of works and the most important characteristics of the admissions officer to solve all your questions at once!
3.Start early, how to prepare/plan to apply for the best design school?
-March 20, 7:00 p.m-
What kind of talents do the best design schools want?
What preparation is required before starting the application?
How to plan the time in the application?
Different colleges and different majors have different needs for the types of talents they recruit. For example, Parsons' style tends to be commercialized under the influence of American culture; RISD focuses on heuristic experiments and foundations; SAIC encourages excellence, criticism, experimentation, and conceptual innovation···
What ability does your dream school focus on most? How can we improve the probability of successful application? How to plan ahead and arrange the time most reasonably? If you want to start before your competitors start, please listen to the opinions of professional experts and buff your application~
