There is a saying that "more than half of New York's artists and designers graduated from School of Visual Arts (SVA)." SVA can be called the heart of the American art circle. The Maryland Academy of Arts has always been among the best in the United States in terms of art design, especially graphic design, which ranks second in the United States, becoming the Dream School in the minds of many students. However, what is the feeling of being admitted by these two top art colleges of graphic design for studying in the United States at the same time? Our natural light LI students, relying on their own strength, opened the offer harvesting mode, and won the offers of three world famous art schools at one fell swoop! They are: Maryland Academy of Arts (the second major in graphic arts in the United States), New York Visual Arts (the third major in graphic arts in the United States), and Otis Academy of Art and Design (the tenth major in graphic arts in the United States). Two of them have generous scholarships!

Unexpectedly, she is so introverted, but has amazing explosive power. She described herself as bored, a quiet person who likes music, reading books and occasionally playing tennis. But she is good at discovering the details of life. In fact, she is a perfectionist. In the collection of graphic design works, her projects include experimental fonts, installation art, a set of playing cards, a set of decompression toys, and small ideas on music. Because she believes that graphic design can also have attitude and opinions like music and articles. So how does she get creative inspiration in life? How to balance the proportion of utility and art Let's take a look at Li's US Application Graphic Design for Studying Abroad sample reels The mental journey in the production process!

How long has your portfolio course lasted? Have you taken any basic courses?

A: I have been taking classes for quite a long time. There was a year from the beginning of the class to the end of the application. I have been taking basic courses all the time.

How long has your portfolio been prepared? How many projects have been done in the collection?

Answer: It should take three to four months to prepare the portfolio. In addition, there are about 11 hand-painted works in total, and there should be five for the project.

Let's talk about these five projects in detail?

A: The first project is a set of experimental fonts made of batik. In short, it is to add batik and traditional Miao batik elements to the English alphabet, creating a collision of Chinese and Western styles.

The second project is installation art. The first draft and idea is the work that I participated in the design contest in the school, and then I was ready to derive it to make a set of installation art. Inspiration: "Open the outer cloth of life, and the sun pours". The essence of life is cruel. We have fallen, collapsed, wronged and abandoned countless times in life; And countless times I stood up and walked forward, telling myself "why cry, stand up". This picture shows a person's life. Countless times of destruction, countless times of rebirth. Finally, I tried my best to use my hands to support my new self into the flowers. It is a world that only those who break free from the shackles can enter, a star lying in the mud ditch and looking up, a belief in their hearts after being refreshed, and a sunshine pouring out after tearing off all the camouflage outside the word "life".

The third project is a set of playing cards with family as the theme.

The fourth project is a set of decompression toys. I interviewed friends around me and got several sources of stress for high school students: parents, academic achievements and money. Then, starting from these three sources of pressure, we made a set of pressure reducing sponge that can be beaten and squeezed.

The fifth project is a small idea when I listen to music - if we can see what the concert is like. So I chose three different styles of music, found their audio, and made ornaments according to the audio.

   Which project is your favorite?

A: I really like my projects, ha ha. My favorite project is a work with critical thinking. The inspiration is a small brain hole derived from the movie "Truman's World", that is, will the world we live in now be false? Will there be other worlds hidden in our world?

Which project is more difficult in the process? How does the teacher help you solve problems in this project?

Answer: The first batik project is difficult. Because this project is the first to do, I am not very clear about the corresponding requirements and standards, and I am not sure. Then it is because I chose the traditional craft of my hometown - batik, which adds more uncertainty to my work. Because it is my first time to do batik, the process is quite complicated and time-consuming. At the beginning, the effect was not very good. The teacher also pondered this process with me, and then gave me some suggestions on presentation methods.

How do you understand this major?

Answer: Graphic design is of course a visual communication. But it actually covers a wide range of fields and has many presentation techniques.

For me, graphic design is not just a poster, but a painting. I think graphic design can also have attitudes and opinions like music and articles. So graphic design is a major that can output personal values for me.

Is there any difference between having classes in natural light and having classes in school before?

A: For me, the time arrangement is more free, and the atmosphere is different, but in fact, it is not easy. Teachers in natural light will be more amiable than those in school.

What do you think is the greatest help to the works collection in the teacher's teaching?

A: I think there are a lot of creative suggestions, presentation methods of works, etc. I have never been exposed to before. But I think the most helpful thing is that in this process, I learned how to systematically think about the presentation of works, production steps, etc., including some professional knowledge in design. Because before learning design, I basically didn't know much about this subject, but during the learning process, I gradually adapted to the rhythm and dealt with it freely, feeling more calm. I think this is very important.

Do you have any suggestions for younger students who want to apply for this major in the future?

A: The suggestion is that if you like it, you should always keep doing it with enthusiasm. This is also a process of continuous learning. Then we must know what we want. Whether it's professional or in the process of creating works, we must have clear ideas and not fight unprepared battles.

Have you finally decided which school to go to? Why?

Answer: I decided to go to SVA, because the first dream school is SVA New York Institute of Visual Arts . From the perspective of geographical location and the teaching philosophy of the school, I like this school very much. After being offered, I didn't consider anything else.

Did the teacher give you some advice during school selection?

A: While respecting my choice, the teacher also gave me a lot of suggestions and recorded my dream school very carefully. Whether it is from the school's professional ranking, or geographical location, etc., they have helped me to consider, and very patiently helped me to answer my doubts.

How do you feel about receiving an offer?

A: In fact, I couldn't believe it at the beginning, because the time of accepting the offer was much faster than I expected. After calming down, I first shared it with my family and good friends, and felt that my heart was finally put down.

Did you encounter any difficulties in the application process?

A: There are many difficulties. Fortunately, we overcame them. During the application process, there were many times when the works were not presented well or the documents were not good enough. To tell the truth, I felt my mentality collapsed several times, but fortunately, the teacher comforted me in the process, and then discussed some solutions with me in time, so that the difficulties could be solved.

That's Li Collection of Graphic Design Works Applied for Studying Abroad in the United States All interviews have been made. The collection of works not only reflects Li students' observation of life in detail, but also reflects a strong creative thinking and excellent practical ability. Behind the creation of miracles, in addition to the efforts of students themselves, it is also inseparable from the earnest teaching of teachers in accordance with their aptitude.

There are no shortcuts on the road of art. Teachers use professional knowledge to irrigate and teach hard time after time to build roads to dream schools. Those who work hard will not be too unlucky.
