This is an interview about the training summary of photography works collection. With more than 20 works in his photography works collection, he won the offer of 7 of the top 10 American photography colleges! There are also 1210400 RMB scholarships from 4 universities!!! These 7 schools are CalArts, Preet College of Arts, Rochester Institute of Technology, New York School of Visual Arts, Maryland College of Arts, California College of Arts (CCA), and Savannah College of Arts and Design; And all this started with a love of watching trains! Now let's take a look at his collection of professional photography works!

As the saying goes, photography is poor for three generations, and SLR will destroy a lifetime. Is it really poor for three generations to play photography? Is equipment important or creativity important? What should photography pay attention to? What kind of works is pure? Let's see what Guancun says.

   Photography Collection Training Summary

Q: First, let's introduce the basic information of your photography collection training, for example, how long is the collection preparation period? There are several items in it. What are these items?

There are some photos taken in the last three years in the collection. If we remove these old works, the serious preparation of the collection started in August and September last year, so the preparation period is only about half a year.

There are three items in my collection of photography works. The first one is a photo taken with a self-made camera called pico camera, which is a wooden box. Then, the principle of pinhole imaging is adopted, and the photo is taken with tri color film.

The second project is to photograph the miscellaneous old objects left by grandparents in their time, including Chairman Mao's red treasure books, Chairman Mao's badges and so on.

The last item is about the theme of travel, which includes some scenery films, train photos, and other humanistic things.

In addition to these three projects, there are two paintings I have painted. These four categories are combined together, and there are more than 20 works in total.

Q: How is the theme of the collection selected? Did the teacher give you some suggestions on the theme? Is it helpful for your collection creation?

The topic is discussed with the teacher. Of course, the topic is selected based on the teacher's opinion, and the help is certainly positive!

My training teacher for photography collection is Mr. Li. In class before, he told me that we can't just shoot trains all the time. It's too simple to shoot trains every day. Let me try to shoot something different. I thought about it myself, so I began to shoot other landscapes, still life and so on. Later, the theme in the collection became broader.

He also told me a lot about photography, which is very useful to me. For example, I have been introduced to the use of all kinds of cameras. I think this knowledge is very helpful to me and my collection of works. The selection of cameras, tools and shooting techniques are all important points in the collection of photographic works.

Q: What is the reason why you always prefer taking pictures of trains before coming to the natural light to follow Teacher Li in class?

I have loved taking trains since I was very young. At the beginning, I especially liked watching trains when I was young. When I was about three or four years old, I loved watching trains passing by the railway.

After watching too much, I slowly found that trains, like planes and cars, are eliminated every few years because they are worn out. Later, I thought it was a pity that a train would be eliminated. I wanted to record it in a way. The way I found it was to take photos.

At the beginning of shooting, the simple thing is to hold up the camera and press the shutter when the car comes. Later, I thought it was too boring and could not reflect the beauty of the train, so I gradually began to look for a seat or something. Many times, I even had to cross mountains and rivers in order to get a satisfactory angle. Later, I gradually took photos of them better and better.

[Students who have studied art should be able to realize that the guidance of teachers is very important in learning, because the education of art majors requires a strong control ability. Teachers can neither give too much guidance, interfere with students' own ideas, nor sit back and let students develop when they have problems. In the study of art majors, teachers' teaching methods and ideas are crucial.

Natural light has always believed that the development of students on the road of art is closely related to teachers. In order to promote the rapid growth of students in the right direction, a national teaching and research center has been set up. The national teaching and research center will always pay attention to the trends and dynamics of international art education, formulate teaching and research goals and contents, and ensure that students get the most perfect teaching methods and the latest teaching concepts, And supervise the completion of courses and ensure the quality of education content.

After many discussions, the National Teaching and Research Center believes that the core of art education should be the creativity of students. Creativity is one of the most important points in art learning. We encourage students to try, experiment and create new things.

For example, during the creation of photography collection by Guancun, Mr. Li constantly guided him not to try new creation while teaching basic knowledge, to tap more of his potential, and finally to get a collection of works with rich themes.]

Q: Do you think there is any difference between the trains you shot before and after you came to natural light?

There are differences, but to be exact, it is not that the trains are different, but that my attitude towards photography is different.

In the past, taking photos was simply to take a beautiful picture, that is, the so-called sugared water slice. After attending the instruction class in natural light, I began to feel that taking photos is not to take a beautiful sugared water slice, but to put my feelings and what I want to express in the photos, which is the most important thing.

I also began to understand that really good pictures are not taken simply by pressing the shutter. A good picture can capture the profound meaning of the photographer even if it is just a street scene. For example, many photography works actually want to express the observation and thinking of social phenomena, such as war, inequality, social injustice, and the darkness of human nature.

So the biggest gain before and after class is through the guidance of Mr. Li. I understand how to use some photography techniques to shoot what I want to express. I think this is very important in the study of photography.

[There are many types of photography, such as commercial photography, documentary photography, news photography, which is a discipline created for practical purposes. The boundaries between each direction have become increasingly blurred. Good photography is no longer a simple end camera based on shutter, and the evaluation standard is not "clear shooting".

With the deepening of our thinking, we gradually have the category of pure art photography. Good looking photos are a primary way of playing. The most important thing to pay attention to is the photographer's attitude towards things, expressed desire and creativity behind the photos, and even his philosophy through photography.

Therefore, in the education of photography, natural light focuses more on cultivating students' correct attitude to photography, as well as their independent thinking ability and creative ability, so as to promote students' creation from the side.]

 Collection of Photography Studied Abroad

Q: Natural light attaches great importance to innovation in students' works. Have you made any new attempts in photography since you came to natural light?

Yes, for example, my first project tried to take pictures with a camera made by myself.

This camera is actually very simple. It uses the principle of pinhole imaging to make a small hole on a small metal sheet, and then glue the metal sheet into a pure black wooden box. The wooden box should be completely sealed. After measuring the distance, it uses a partition to put it behind the wooden box, and places the film between the partition and the wooden box, Then take photos by calculating its aperture and shutter time.

I think it's quite interesting. After all, I haven't tried to do it myself before.

Q: Natural light also attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' interdisciplinary thinking. Have you participated in some workshops of interdisciplinary courses during your study of natural light? Have you got anything?

Yes, I participated in a workshop with graphic design and interactive design during the summer vacation. It was jointly made by my photography teacher, graphic design and film teachers. I was mainly responsible for the final shooting of the works.

I think the biggest gain in the workshop is that first, I have trained my team cooperation ability. Second, I have experienced how different disciplines blend with each other, which has also received great influence. For example, students majoring in graphic design can compare with Studying abroad in photography Students should be more delicate. In this way, I learned the advantages of other students through group cooperation, helped me improve my composition ability in photography, and made the pictures taken more substantial and details handled more carefully.

[When choosing majors, you should be able to feel the degree of subdivision of departments and majors by overseas universities. Our knowledge division is becoming more and more detailed, and the division of departments is also becoming more and more detailed, which is conducive to the development of students in a professional field. While subdividing categories, we can also see the emphasis on interdisciplinary proofreading by colleges and universities, so as to promote students to go beyond the fields of fixed categories and integrate the knowledge of other majors to create new achievements. In this respect, natural light seamlessly connects with foreign famous schools, and introduces the division and interdisciplinary system of overseas art colleges.

In order to effectively study and train interdisciplinary thinking, the natural light will constantly provide students with interdisciplinary workshops, gather multiple professional teachers and students of different majors to carry out thinking storm and cross-border exploration, and through the process of feasibility analysis - thinking integration - iterative process - optimization project - final presentation, Let students adapt to the overseas education mode in advance during the practice of cross-border team cooperation and innovation, and exercise their cooperation ability and professional comprehensive ability.]

Q: As we all know, overseas colleges and universities attach great importance to the expression of interdisciplinary ability in the concentration of students' works. Your works are almost all photography works. So, how do you think of interdisciplinary works?

There is not much interdisciplinary content in my photographic works. First, I am purely enthusiastic about photography. Second, my idea is to take photography as a starting point and slowly expand outward. Some day in the future, I will naturally encounter points that need the knowledge of other disciplines to support, such as plane, interaction, and even fashion. At this time, I will develop to other disciplines.

I think it is very good to say that I am optimistic about the road ahead and do the best things that need to be done at the moment, so that when I get to the fork in the road, I will have the ability to make the right choice, and I can also take the road behind better. When I encounter difficulties caused by the limitations of photography, I will certainly want to use other disciplines to help me improve my photography portfolio. But at this stage, I think my current photography is enough.

【 Although there is no obvious interdisciplinary project of other students in the photography collection training of Guancun students, photography is actually a very comprehensive discipline. For example, landscape films need knowledge of geography, architecture, climate, optics, etc.; folk films need to understand religion, humanities, etc.; documentary photography needs a broad understanding of philosophy, history, sociology, etc; The research of equipment needs more knowledge related to various disciplines. If photography is not interdisciplinary, the work will be like a superficial stack of skills and forms. It has no connotation and value and is difficult to attract more attention from the audience. For example, some physics and product design contents were used in the project of making cameras by Guancun.

Natural light has always encouraged people to be interdisciplinary, but it is consistent with the idea of Guancun. Although the collection of interdisciplinary overseas works can show the potential of students, all interdisciplinary works should be spread based on the project itself. If you deliberately force other disciplines to join for the purpose of interdisciplinary, then the collection of works can not be added extra points, On the contrary, even the most basic ability was not shown well.

Therefore, we encourage interdisciplinary, but everyone must be based on their own situation and professional "scientific" interdisciplinary.]

Tutorial for Photography Majors Studying Abroad

Q: What difficulties did you encounter in the process of focusing on photography during the creation of overseas works? How to solve these difficulties?

One difficulty I met was that my teacher was a "pit". He would give me a topic to take pictures, but I didn't know what to take when I looked at the topic. To give a simple example, the teacher gave me a word: "light". I just think how to shoot this "light". Sometimes I can't figure it out, and sometimes I feel awkward.

So the most important thing during the learning period is that the teacher gave me a relatively large assignment to interpret the theme.

This solution can only be discussed with the teacher first, because my own artistic creation level is not that high, not reaching the teacher's position, so I often discuss with the teacher, analyze the theme in the discussion to find inspiration, and then divide my ideas into several points, and then divide them into several shots to shoot.

If I can't take it, the teacher will show me some photos and albums of other photographers and find some ideas, so that I will be enlightened.

Q: In the process of learning photography, which photographer's works you like and appreciate very much, and have given you influence and help?

I have benefited a lot from my favorite photographers. For example, my family and teachers think my works are a little like some photos taken by Edward Birdinsky, and I also think that some compositions and lines are really similar.

At the beginning, I didn't pay attention to any photographer. I thought it was OK to take a good picture of my own style. When I found the similarities between myself and some photographers, I began to think: "Why can others become people, but I can't?" So I began to look at their works and want to learn what they have but I don't.

Later, I often went to see the works of Edward Birdinsky, including his website, his articles and famous masterpieces. I will find common ground in my works and his works, think about what I have done, and then see what details I have not done. Then I will pay more attention when taking photos next time, so Zuckerberg has a great influence on me in terms of influence.

Q: As the saying goes, photography is poor for three generations, and SLR will ruin your life. From your experience of being keen on photography for many years, is it really expensive to learn photography?

To be honest, this major is a bit expensive compared with other majors. However, it still depends on personal choices and methods. In fact, it can be less costly.

For example, many photographers who shoot very well actually buy a film machine, such as a small Pentax. Such a small camera is not expensive. Now many second-hand cameras can only cost 2000 yuan at most, and then spend some film money. In fact, photography can be very simple and simple.

The importance of machines is not the most important. The most important thing is to see the connotation, thoughts and emotions of photographers reflected in the works.

Q: Do you have any experience and suggestions for students who want to apply for photography major in overseas universities?

The most important suggestion is to read more books! Think more about the master's photography!

What kind of books do you read? Read books that can enrich your understanding of photography and stimulate your imagination, such as biographies and interviews of photography masters, and poetry works of famous Chinese and foreign poets.

What kind of masterpieces are you looking at? At first glance, you can't see what his photos are trying to express. They look very ordinary and common. What do you think when you look at it? I can also shoot it. However, once you calm down and focus on it, you will suddenly feel the emotional power of the work and the photographer's deep eyes through every detail in the picture. That moment was the most profound moment of happiness for viewers. Such "happiness" gathers together, and self aesthetic appreciation of photography is gradually established.

The above is the summary interview of the photo album training of Guncun students~Guncun students know their own advantages, what they like and what they are good at. At the same time, he also knows his own shortcomings, and will improve them through the help of teachers and his own thinking. Most people have been taught to learn from each other since childhood, I hope you can use this simple principle in the creation of works in the future.
