The interview introduced by natural light today is a summary of the collection of works of A student's British graduate students majoring in illustration. He majored in environmental art at Tianjin University of Technology, and applied for British graduate students majoring in illustration after transferring to art. He was offered by Camberwell College of Arts, Nottingham Trent University, Kingston University and other universities. In the last interview, We interviewed An's sister, Ping, who is also a professional student of natural light illustration. In the interview, we can see that the two sisters learn from each other, try new projects together, and let ideas collide with each other to achieve the best artistic effect.
An, who has experienced the pain of surgery, still puts his helplessness aside, retains his love for the world, and draws a powerful picture book for children who are afraid of surgery; After she realized the confusion brought by the strange city at the beginning of her graduation, she still put her psychological burden aside, pondered how to cure young people in the same state, conveyed a positive and optimistic attitude with a collage combining virtual and real life, and soothed the fragile emotions of post-90s people; She experienced the absence of sound, but she paid more attention to listening to the purest sound in nature, and expressed her understanding of sound and different perception from ordinary people with art.
Like her sister, An majored in environmental design as an undergraduate student, and the future graduate student will majored in British illustration. Up to now, An has received three offers from London University of the Arts Cumberwell, Kingston, and Nottingham Trent. It's amazing that she and her sister got the same offer. Is it the same or different work gatherings that got such application results? Now let's take a look at the collection of works of classmate An and listen to her purest and most natural voice.
A summary of A student's work collection of British graduate illustration:
STARRYNIGHT
The first project theme is the night. This group of illustrations tells about a girl who just graduated and was in a daze, walking in the alley with curiosity, and summoning the courage to explore the different scenes of each alley.
My original intention was to design the image of a dark haired girl, but later I had to change it to golden yellow due to material reasons, which just presented a feeling of positive attitude and hope, and also conveyed my idea that everyone should maintain a positive attitude regardless of the situation.
A summary of the works of British graduate students majoring in illustration
In this project, I used collage to combine the real alley scenes and the virtual space created by hand painting to achieve the desired visual effect. In order to balance the final visual effect and avoid image overlapping too chaotic to affect the layout, many experiments have been carried out.
The inspiration comes from my finding that many young people, like me, are bearing a lot of psychological burden and would like to be alone at night, because quiet nights can let people do more things in a quiet atmosphere, and sometimes people will burn the midnight oil for some enthusiasm; Sometimes it is the night that makes people feel vulnerable and allow them to fall into depression. The young girls in this trend story represent the post-90s generation.
The scenes in the project come from the field survey I did in Nanluoguxiang and Beihaibei. First, I went to Nanluogu Lane to take a lot of photos. While taking photos, I also brought the role of the girl in the story into the atmosphere of Xiahutong to stimulate more ideas and get more inspiration.
As for the selection of materials for this project, I encountered the first bottleneck period at that time, because I had always relied on the digital board before doing this project, but the chief instructor suggested that I try to mix materials to enrich the form and content of the collection.
As you can see from the picture, what I have done is a book with continuous folding, which can let you see the whole process of a girl's walking. The purpose of my work is to reflect a psychological state and personal state through this small box, so as to cure some young people who are also confused, and tell everyone to pay more attention to emotions. There will always be someone who shares your feelings and can solve problems together.
During the bottleneck period of the project, many students may encounter the problem about the form of the collection of works, especially those who apply for zero foundation to major and those who apply for illustration. So at this stage, the tutor guided students An to try different mixed materials.
Because students will inevitably put items with too uniform style and single form in their works when their foundation is not solid enough or they focus on a certain painting form for a long time.
Then, such a collection of overseas works of illustration design will directly lead the admissions officer to think that such a collection of works is very monotonous when reviewing many collections. More importantly, the admissions officer will think that students do not have more possibilities, so we always encourage students to try new things, practice new techniques in practice, and let more Illustration painting Language to enrich his collection of works.
SOUND
The second project is called Sound, which is about my personal growth experience. Because I didn't really hear the voice until I was four years old, my view of voice is different from others. In this project, I talked about the subtle changes of sensory adaptation and sensory processing in the process of not hearing, seeing and hearing.
According to the scenes in my memory and some data, I made two projects, Part1 and Part2, and divided the time from birth to the present into five stages. The memories of each stage were extracted. There was also a part of the content that recorded the moment when I implanted the cochlea and learned to speak. I was very impressed by the day of surgery and the tense expressions of my family, The first time I heard the sound was not quite the same as everyone imagined. At that time, the intense pain seemed to tear me to pieces.
When I began to hear sounds, I stood alone at the orderly crossroads and did not know which direction to go, because I heard different rhythms and sounds, but I could not judge where the sounds came from. My senses were not fully adapted to the sudden sounds.
The last one is the medical data I collected and some photos of my childhood, which are used to obtain materials in the form of memories. Through these data, I can see what my state was at that time. This process is finally presented to everyone through hand finished things.
Then there is a second form of this project, which is also to tell a story with a drawing book. I also fed the drawing book back to the doctor of the hospital for a survey.
Because many children are afraid of surgery, I made this picture book to encourage children to see a rainbow one day. I hope I can share my personal experience, so that more people like me can remain calm and accept the facts, and look at the world with an optimistic attitude.
POLLUTION
The third project is to express my thoughts on marine pollution through my works. The sea looks beautiful on the surface, but in the invisible depths are all non degradable plastic products. These plastic products may be eaten by marine animals and left in their stomachs, or they may be injured and left on their bodies.
As a human being, I can't bear to see such a situation. After investigation and research, I learned that although animals are victims, after this vicious circle, human beings are also punished for environmental pollution. We should realize that this fact is caused by our continuous damage to the environment.
In the early research, I found three animals that were most concerned. On the land, the most representative animal is the elephant, which is huge and has a strong memory; The representative animals in the sea are whales. They have a high IQ and know how to get along with other fish; Bats are the representative animals in the sky. They are very mysterious and are the mascots of some countries.
Although the earth is our most familiar and vast home, many animals here have lost their habitat due to deforestation, desertification, marine pollution and other problems. So I thought of using the balloon element. First, it is beautiful. Second, it can fly, and even take other things off. In this project, extinct animals are still living in balloons, and God gives them a place in nature.
Interaction is the most effective way for humans to recognize the current situation faced by animals through real visual experience. So I added real garbage to the three clean posters to give the audience an immersive and intuitive experience. At the same time, we remind everyone that the little things we don't care about every day are the root cause of the current situation of animals. We also call on everyone to reduce the use of plastic products and choose more environmentally friendly products.
CHINESE FONT
The fourth item is font drawing. Exploring all aspects of Chinese characters through the visualization of characters also reflects Chinese culture.
The font itself is not something with strong information. It is neither an animal with vitality nor a mountain tree with tranquility and depth. But as a carrier of cultural inheritance and communication, the dull text also contains the wisdom and thought of the ancients, and also records the passage of time. In the developed media of the current society, there are many articles that have a profound impact on every reader, which fully demonstrate the power of words.
In this project, I made a conversion of the most traditional Chinese characters, and reflected the polysemy of Chinese characters through the derived graphic characters.
In recent years, Chinese elements have become popular, influencing the world through the power of art and design. Whether it is the fashion industry, the construction industry, the interior industry or the film industry, Chinese element design is indispensable. The language, writing and thinking left by the ancient civilization are moving more people bit by bit.
Of course, Chinese elements can also be applied to the works collection. Before that, some students of natural light had taken inspiration from The Classic of Mountains and Rivers and A Dream of Red Mansions, combining oriental culture with the works collection, and got very good offers.
Chinese has always been regarded as the most difficult and complicated language in the world. Even for Chinese people, it takes a lot of time to study Chinese thoroughly. So it is really an interesting and attractive project for A student to choose Chinese font as the theme, combined with the presentation form of illustration.
For us, these Chinese elements may be ordinary, but such works will really attract admissions officers. First, people will instinctively be curious about things they have not seen. Second, this culture excavated from the perspective of art will make people more interested in continuing to read.
TWINS
The last project was done by me and my twin sister. Why do we do this project about twins? Because I find that many people in my daily life ask me whether twins have telepathy, including some trivial things.
So our source of inspiration is to use the collection of works to satisfy everyone's curiosity about us. This is the first time that our sisters have tried to do a cooperation project.
In this project, my sister is mainly responsible for collecting text materials, while I am responsible for collecting fragments of our daily life. For example, our personal hobby is taking photos. During our college years, many people invited us to take photos. I took those photos as a source of inspiration for the materials.
I am mainly responsible for planning and photography of this project, so I made a twin wearing the same clothes in a humorous form, which is to describe the state of our two people. We also use a yellow line to express that our invisible emotions are connected together, reflecting the real existence of our emotions.
Summary of today
What is the essence of art? In my opinion, it can be summed up in three simple words: truth, kindness and beauty. Another artist once said, "I feel that there is nothing more trulyartistic than to love people.
I hope that today's interview with classmate An can help you get this positive attitude and learn some experience from her works, such as enriching the form of her works and trying different media and materials, such as photography, collage, installation, etc. Secondly, we can see from the works of Ms. An that her early research work is very meticulous and has enough content to support the project.
