Today's natural light brings you a summary and sharing of the collection of pure art works studying in Britain. RCA Royal Academy of Arts, the world's No. 1, has received offers from two majors; The second ranked London Academy of Arts, she received offers from two of them; After being admitted by Campbell without interview, she got the universal formula of the Grand Slam of offer and applied for zero rejection letter. Is it full research+interdisciplinary thinking? Or artistry+profundity? Let's find the answer in the interview!
Yu, a undergraduate majoring in digital media at Wuhan University of Technology, applied for a master's degree in pure art in the UK.
Admitted institutions:
Royal College of Art
London University of the Arts
University College London and Glasgow College of Arts
Yu changed his major to apply for a pure art major in the UK. In addition to getting RCA Royal College of Arts Double offers, including offers from CSM, Camberwell, Glasgow Academy of Arts, UCL and other institutions. Yu is a student familiar to the teachers of Natural Light. She has strong communication skills, has many ideas in her mind, and is very happy to communicate with others. These exchanges can be turned into nutrients in the works. Not only that, but also more "secrets" are shared with you in the interview of Yu.
Summary and sharing of British pure art works collection:
Q: Does Yu always teach courses below the line during natural light? How long has the collection been ready for use?
Yes, it's always face-to-face teaching. I came to Beijing in July of 2018, and I got used to it for a month when I first arrived. One and a half months ago, I did a project, but I didn't think it was very good, so I gave up. It is equivalent to starting again, and then starting again in August and September, until the end of December. In fact, the work was almost finished in mid December, and then the application was submitted continuously in January.
Q: There are several projects in the collection. What are the contents of these projects?
There are four items in the collection, involving installation, painting and photography. Because I was a digital media professional before, I also used some things I learned when I was an undergraduate in my works.
Project 1: Dialogue
This project mainly talks about the relationship between my mother and me. My mother used to be a doctor, and we often argued about some of my diseases. I think our relationship is a bit like the relationship between people and everyday objects, coexisting but worn out in daily life. So I used some things that appeared in my life, such as my mother's medical books, and some short sentences I wrote in my observation. By combining words with some reconstructive objects, I hope I can get rid of the identity of mother and daughter to have a silent communication with each other.
This project includes four works, such as one piece of "could you see me". In the medical book my mother used to turn, I drew a picture of women's thighs on the page describing my disease, and wrote a small poem of mine in the crack between the pages.

Other works of this project are we just saw each other, you never see the green and don't. The titles are based on my words and appear in each small work. Combine some simple materials. Such as light box with infrared sensor, video, handmade paper and screen printing.
British Pure Art Collection Project summary:
This project is the longest one I have ever worked on. On the one hand, the teachers have high requirements, and on the other hand, they have always been biased during the period, and have taken many detours. After more than a month of doing relevant and irrelevant reserchs, I wrote a whole book of things. These things did not actually translate into later works, but suddenly became clear one day to a certain extent.
At that time, the teacher asked me to see the work of another artist. After I saw the work of that artist, I didn't actually get something from him. I'm not very similar to him in form, but I can understand from his work that I don't want to do very big, very noisy, very complex things, but just the simplest.
In fact, it was very difficult to do this project, because I didn't want to dig deep into myself, which was a painful process. But I can also feel that it is possible to do something through such a process, and you must face something you are not willing to face.
This work may just satisfy my personal feelings, and will not have any empathy with others. In fact, I think that people do things for themselves first, not necessarily for which group or which thing, or what to say to the world, because I think that at this stage, students at the age of applying for art study abroad are all watching their own stage, and must first go through a process of exploring their own, after all, experience and vision are limited.

British Pure Art Collection Project 2: To make a phone call to a mountain
Another work I talked about more in the interview is<To Make a Phone call to a mountain>This project is an early idea of mine. I have tried it myself before.
The wish to do this project is a word that suddenly appears in my mind: I want to call a mountain, which is a mountain in my hometown. I especially want to hear its voice, mountain wind, water flow and so on at any time.
This device is divided into two parts. One part is in the indoor exhibition hall, with my painting, fan leaf sound and receiver. The other part is mainly put in four places in the mountain by hardware and fan leaf. Through programming and the use of some sensors, the sound and wind in the mountain can be transmitted synchronously. The part of wind transmission is actually completed by the fan blades with synchronous speed.
Through the unification of time and the dislocation of space, I want to express a sense of distance, which is also a way for me to record a period of life. I always thought it was simple.
British Pure Art Collection Project summary:
In fact, this project has already reached the third project, which is in a relatively slow state. I had very, very many ideas at that time, because I was the kind of person who took more than N small ideas in a week. When I discussed this idea with my teacher, the teacher thought that every link could be realized because it was integrated into my original major.
At that time, the final appearance of the project and what will be used in each link will be explained clearly to the teacher, because I was just planning to build a device before. The teacher suggested me to add some paintings, which will have more visual elements and change a bit.
The idea does not mean who comes from. The teachers do not give you an idea, but I must first tell the teachers an idea, and then they will dig what can be in-depth.

British Pure Art Collection Project III
In fact, this device mainly means that everyone feels different about time. I transformed the statements of my mother, my grandmother and me about their lives into three lines, which were glued to three customized boards, driven by pointers at different speeds, and gradually disappeared with time.
British Pure Art Collection Project summary:
The concept of this project was first thought of and then added. This is actually very bad, so the concept is a bit stiff. It is not recommended.
The inspiration of the project is that I found that the pointer can move with things, and then gradually disappear. So I made a small thing. It was a small board. I sewed a simple word like everything with my pointer, and then turned it around. It means that time will take everything away.
Later, when I discussed with the teacher, the teacher felt that this concept was very thin. If I just did this, it would be too small to support an entire project in the collection. Then I wanted to add something to make it more abundant and larger.
Project IV: I have a bed at IKEA
The idea of this project comes from my discovery that in life, there are always many people sleeping in many strange places, such as the corridors of hospitals, flower beds, and chairs. Later, it was mainly reduced to IKEA. I think this phenomenon is very interesting, because doing such private things as sleeping in public makes me curious about why and who it is. Then I went to the field for a month, mainly talking with them, taking photos and recording.
Then when I talked with the teacher, I felt that everyone was quiet and decent when watching the exhibition. I wanted them to change their positions and not draw a line. Just put a pillow on the ground, with audio chat with everyone in it. You need to lie down to hear it. When you do this, you feel like lying down in public.
In addition, the teacher suggested that I could make a separate brochure for the photos I took. I always thought that this could only be research materials, but the teacher encouraged me to say that this could also be a form, which is a very different point I learned.
British Pure Art Collection Project summary:
In fact, this project is a little controversial, which I have been reflecting on since I finished it. For example, each white pillow represents a different identity of different people, but I use the same size and same color. Someone asked me, but I didn't think clearly.
This project does not want to convey a certain concept clearly, but only to say that I have done such a thing, what kind of information I have learned in the process. These are some very real data, first-hand information, rather than social news. I just want to convey these things to you in an interesting form.
Another problem is the label. At that time, the label was made purely for fun and for the purpose of naming IKEA. But I was hesitant because I thought it was like labeling others or dematerializing others, so I thought these problems were serious. Later, I kept thinking about them.
Interview experience:
Q: Did the interview go well? What questions were asked? Is there anything I can share with you?
The two professional interviews of RCA were conducted by two teachers for about 20 minutes. The questions they asked were mainly about their works and majors. I didn't encounter any problems beyond the outline, so it should be OK. However, the network is not very stable. Remember to test in advance. Don't panic if the signal is bad in the middle. Just tell the teacher directly.
When I interviewed the Chelsea Academy of Art and Design, they said that I was not suitable for Chelsea. They said that if I agreed to go there, I would not have to interview Camberwell College of Arts They gave me an offer directly. But in fact, I don't think much about Camberwell's major, and I still plan to go to Huangyi. Saint Martin had a telephone interview. At that time, he didn't talk with me about the collection of works. He was chatting when he came here.
In the interview, I think first of all, I must know my own works very well, and then I can easily convey my own meaning. Each of my own interview manuscripts may not exceed seven or eight sentences, because my works are also very simple.
The interview questions are all about why you choose this major and what you know about it. More major problems still lie in the works.
Before the interview, you should understand the shortcomings and strengths of your work, try to talk like a chat, and don't be too nervous. Before my interview, my main subject teacher with natural light gave me a lot of advice, and also took me for two or three tests. After I left Beijing after finishing the course, they were still discussing with me about how to prepare for the interview.
Q: What help did the teacher give you during the collection? What's the difference between here and in college?
In the natural light, you will meet a variety of people with different majors. In addition to the classroom, the space is very open, so you can communicate with many teachers and students. This process is quite interesting.
It's really different from school. When I was an undergraduate, I felt that some things I did could not be recognized by the people around me, and to some extent, I restricted some ideas. They think that what I do is too pure art, not designed at all, and has no practical significance. I have different ideas from the teachers and students around me, and I especially like to exchange some conceptual and theoretical things. I want some critical atmosphere, but the school rarely has such opportunities and does not pay much attention to this aspect. In natural light, teachers attach great importance to this, and there are many opportunities.
Among the two teachers I met, Mr. Cody is a very practical and encouraging teaching. No matter what kind of ideas I have, he thinks there are places to explore, but later he has to make his own choices, and also give some interesting ideas and opinions. During the chat with him, he will gradually clarify what he wants to do.
According to Ms. Feifei, she mainly taught me the process of constantly asking myself questions, that is, there will be a lot of details when doing projects, and I can get a lot of thinking improvement in this process, which I think is very important. These two teachers are very good, and each of them meets my great needs.
Here I would like to thank all the teachers once again. I am probably the only one in the natural light who has mixed a few feet with all the teachers. The teachers have given me advice or helped me. For example, teacher Li Shuo helped me take many excellent photos; Muxia has been chatting with me all the time, telling me many things about studying abroad and works; Needless to say, Mr. Feifei and Mr. Cody are both very responsible. The natural light is very good because everyone is very open. Like making friends, without a teacher, you must be one level higher than you. This atmosphere is very good.
Application experience:
First: You must think clearly why you choose this major? What is this major? Why do you want to do this? Why go abroad? What to do next?
Second: If Studying Abroad in Pure Art Major If so, what you do must make you know more about yourself and the things around you. Your inspiration must not come from others or social hot spots, it must be what you want to say.
Third: There must be a lot of entanglement and anxiety in the process of creating works. The pain at this time is a very good thing, because if there is no such process, it must not touch the core. Keep this attitude, and you will be able to survive the work better.
Fourth: I suggest you start as soon as possible and don't rush. Including English, we should prepare in advance.
At the time of our interview, Yu had not received all the offers and was still preparing for other interviews. Summing up the reasons why she got the offer of Grand Slam, we can get a textbook answer, such as full research before the project; Timely discuss and communicate with the teacher to get more ideas; Combine the undergraduate majors with the applied majors, so that the admissions officer can see your cross course thinking; Add Personal Voice to the collection of works to express who you are.
What is more worth learning is that Yu has never stopped thinking. Even after the completion of his collection of works, he is constantly overthrowing the past, discovering new problems, and constantly updating his own cognition. Such mentality and habits will also contribute to the rapid growth in the future.
