Undergraduate major

Artist Diploma


The Artist Diploma is a highly selective program for particularly talented performers and singers at the forefront of major international solo careers. Applicants must hold at least a high school diploma. Students who hold a Master of Music degree or are currently registering for a Master of Music program are not eligible to apply for the Master of Music program. Students holding degrees from other conservatories of music and admitted to the Master of Music program are expected to complete the program within one year.


The course of study for the candidates is flexible and designed for the personal needs of advanced students. Associate degree candidates need at least 14 credits per semester, which must include a non performance course. All courses of the Conservatory of Music and Yale University, with the permission of their tutors, have a positive impact on A D. Open to candidates. A. D. Candidates can apply for up to four weeks of off campus professional activities each year. Admitted students must register at the Conservatory of Music and live in Grand New Haven for two years.


The minimum performance requirements during the two-year residence period include two solo concerts (one is an internal candidate), one chamber music recital and one concerto performance. Bachelor of Arts/M.M. Program


The Bachelor of Arts/Master of Music program is designed for instrument performers with outstanding performance ability, who are also interested in liberal arts education. Obtaining Bachelor of Arts/Master's Degree Before entering Yale University or in the third year of the bachelor's program, students must pass a separate and successful audition of the Conservatory of Music to enter Yale University. Bachelor of Arts/M.M. students usually complete the requirements of Bachelor of Arts degree in the first four years, and master of music degree in the Conservatory of Music (five years) one year later. By the end of the fifth year, all the students who take the BA/MA courses have passed the tests or course assignments, and the courses must meet the standards of the School of Music for analysis, musical ability and music history; They must also complete the keyboard proficiency requirements and non performance course allocation requirements of the Conservatory of Music. Postgraduate major

Music major:


The Master of Music (MM) program is the most popular program in the Conservatory of Music, and about 70% of the students choose this major. This is a two-year course suitable for students who have an undergraduate degree and are eager to make breakthroughs in their professional fields.


Music majors take a variety of courses, including music history, auditory training, and chamber music. Students majoring in performance can get the opportunity to play in Yale Philharmonic Orchestra and New Haven New Year Concert Series, while students majoring in composition can hear their own works in New Haven New Year Concert Series.


There are many elective courses to choose from. All students must choose one non performance elective course every semester, four courses in two years. Students can choose from any college at Yale University.


To obtain M M. Degree, students must pass at least 72 credits and each subject must be at B level. All students must pass the keyboard ability test. The reading ability of a foreign language, such as French, German, Italian or Spanish, is also required. The language test is conducted several times a year.


Music Art Major:


The Master of Music Arts (MMA) is a performance oriented course, especially for those students who are eager to go beyond music theory learning and make achievements in a broader field.


The program offers one-year courses for professionals, while two-year courses are offered for non professionals. It should be noted that the conditions must be met regardless of professional experience.


This rigorous course provides training to enhance performance skills and a large number of performance opportunities.
