Lin Huiyin's Stage Design Works
In September 1927, Lin Huiyin studied for half a year in George Pierce Baker's Studio of the School of Drama of Yale University. His works and photos were collected by Yale University. He was the first Chinese to systematically study stage art in the West. After returning home, he did stage art design for Cao Yu's plays.

In the first year, students will deeply study a wide range of classic texts, operas and musicals, as well as modern and contemporary works, and produce a large number of models. In the second year, students met with teachers regularly every week for advanced discussions on director and stage design, and completed two projects every semester. In the third year, students can choose their own works to complete the graduation design and spend one semester to complete the thesis. The internship activities of Yale Drama Troupe run through the three years of study.
Requirements for application materials
A necessary statement of purpose, resume, a letter of recommendation, the names and addresses of the other two recommenders, a transcript and a collection of works.
Each work in the collection must be marked with the name of the applicant, the title of the play and the date of creation. If the collection needs to be returned, a handling fee of $20 must be included in the collection to pay the return freight, unless the applicant takes it back in person.
Official requirements for works collection
Albums are not advertisements. Don't use superfluous decoration to make up for the weakness of painting and design.
The collection of works should have emphasis, depth and breadth. For example, if applying for the direction of setting for stage design, the collection should focus on setting, and also include understanding in other fields. Non dramatic works (paintings, props) can also be included.
In addition to visual expression, the portfolio should also demonstrate the applicant's sensitivity to music and drama.
The collection of works should show the process, including rough preliminary sketches (not computer generated) and sketch books, and show the thinking process of design. Whenever possible, each set sketch should be accompanied by a ground plan.
