Royal Academy of Music Royal College of Music (RCM) is one of the top conservatories in the world. Classical music performance


The School's Department of Classical Music Performance provides intensive training in all aspects of performance history. Master of Music


This course was created to adapt to the changing professional needs and the trend of concert organizers and recording companies increasingly focusing on the project based operation mode. This course is designed for students who want to expand and develop high-level playing opportunities through practical academic research. The Master of Music in Performance and Research gives students the opportunity to closely discuss how the major develops at different levels through the music industry.

The admission of Master of Arts and Master of Music is based first on the level of performance in the exam, then on the level of interview and articles. In general, the jury is interested in sensitivity, creativity, criticism, basic research skills, writing ability and playing interest.

Examination requirements:


Candidates are required to perform 30 minute repertoire. Including:


◆ At least 20 minutes of developed tracks, selected from the track list of the ARSM exam;


◆ A maximum of 10 minutes of optional tracks, reaching the level of King 8 or above.


During the 30 minute performance, the examiner, Jiang Cong, assessed the performance of the examinees in terms of music transmission, music performance and technical realization.


Note: If the examinee exceeds the time limit, he or she may be asked by the examiner to terminate the performance.

Application Experience

Candidates for the master of music postgraduate must submit two articles of 1000 to 2000 words written in English, plus a project plan for the proposed thesis, when submitting the application form.


ARSM Exam


It is worth mentioning that since January 2017, a new purely performing music performance diploma exam, ARSM (The Associate of the Royal Schools of Music), has emerged. It is a springboard for students to pass DipABRSM.


This exam is specially designed for music talents above band 8 of the Emperor of England, so that they have the opportunity to improve and show their performance skills and make their scores recognized. Generally, there are two examinations every year, with less assessment requirements, excluding oral examinations and papers, attracting about 600000 candidates from all over the world every year.
