Is the graphic design of Parsons College good? Today, Natural Light shares with you the student Sueun, who applied for the graphic design of Parsons College, and won the offers of Parsons, Pratt, SVA and CCA in the six months of working together with Natural Light, and also received Parsons 225000 yuan, CCA 365000 yuan, a total of 590000 yuan of scholarships! From South Korea to China, her diversified growth experience has made her brave to try and meet every challenge of life. From international high school to natural light, her artistic enlightenment comes from a "work task" assigned by her mother. What kind of "acclimatization" will happen to the education model of China and South Korea when encountering natural light art education? When graphic design breaks away from the constraints of form, how will it express personal design language? Today's hero Sueun will also share her experience with us!
Is the graphic design of Parsons College good? Student application experience sharing
Artistic enlightenment starts from "working for mother"
Speaking of my artistic enlightenment, it originated from my mother's "driving ducks to the shelves".
My mother opened a western restaurant in Tianjin. Before, she hired a designer to be responsible for the visual design of the restaurant. Later, for some personal reasons, the designer suddenly left.

I don't know whether my mother is "big hearted" or too confident in me, so she decided to let me take over the design. At that time, I had absolutely no foundation. I could say that I knew nothing about graphic design. Fortunately, I had some artistic talent (proud face) and began to learn from software. I also made some posters, menus and even web page designs.
In addition to saving money for my mother (joking), the most important thing is that I found my own interests and goals. Next, I will go to the best university to learn graphic design! Having confirmed my dream, I went to seek more professional help - came to the natural light.
The collection of overseas art works is too "southern"
I took classes in natural light for 6 or 7 months in total. The time is not very long, but fortunately, I have a clear goal and prepared language scores in advance, which frees up some time to concentrate on the collection of works.

It is also a sincere reminder that younger students who want to apply for graphic design at Parsons College must prepare their language scores as soon as possible Parsons School of Design Parsons Challenge was announced late, and it will be a tragedy if both sides are too busy when it comes to the time when they are separated from language brushing
One or two months before I came to the natural light, I was really "south". Because the preparation time is not enough, after the communication between the teacher and me, the supplement of basic courses and the creation of works collection are carried out together.

In this way, I think the learning task is a little big. In addition, the learning method is very different from that of my previous schools in China and South Korea. The courses here require students to be more proactive and always focus on "creation".
I now recall that I did the first work in my portfolio for more than two months. During that time, I had a basic course and discussed topics with my teacher. I just felt that I always couldn't grasp the key points, and I didn't know how many versions were lost by the teacher's Pass
Maybe at the beginning I didn't know much about the creation mode of the works collection. Every time I think about the theme, I start with some big social topics. But the teacher is more experienced and has always stressed to me that we must find the elements of creation from our own life, and develop a perfect theme with the content we are really interested in.
Slowly, I also found the direction of design, and really understood what the collection of works is, where my advantages are, including how to find the appropriate creative methods and so on. The later projects are more and more successful. There are 5 projects in my collection, and the efficiency in the later stage is still very high. So until now, I am very grateful for the teacher's "sternness" and helped me correct many correct design thoughts and processes.
The review of the collection of works helps me to check the defects and fill the gaps in a timely manner
There is also a small turning point in my creative process, which has played a key role in helping me. I probably participated in a review of the collection of works of natural light this summer, but my collection of works was not completed at that time.
After the review, the teacher of the admissions officer told me that my collection of works was not perfect in terms of theme and lacked some works with expressive color, so some hand drawn and conceptual projects should be added. This also inspired me a lot.

As it happens, I have a professional teacher from the Department of Pure Art Illustration. After I finished the review, I immediately went to him. After considering the requirements of the college I applied for, he also suggested that I should prepare several groups of observational paintings.
He also told me: "For undergraduate applications, compared with the graphic design major itself, colleges and universities prefer to examine the comprehensive strength of applicants from a macro perspective. The creative form can not be too limited, and try to express your views in a more open way."

So in the next creation, I consciously spread in the direction of "creativity" and "pure art". Finally, under the guidance of teachers, two groups of relatively comprehensive interdisciplinary works were completed.
My 5 portfolio projects
Next, I will briefly introduce my Parsons College Graphic Design Study Abroad 5 items in the collection:
The first project is that I spent two months gnawing the "hard bone". This work is a packaging design for SulBing, a Korean dessert brand. My starting point is to shape SulBing into a more international brand visually.
The second group of works is called Sound Diary/Voice Diary. The inspiration of this project is that I once studied at home, and my neighbor's house was being decorated. The noise generated was very disturbing to me; At the same time, I also began to think whether the "sound pollution" caused by the development of modern science and technology is really affecting our lives.
Therefore, I record two sounds every day, including noise or natural sounds, which last for six days. Then I visualize the 12 sounds into design elements in a form similar to a diary. This work also hopes to arouse people's thinking about sound pollution.
The remaining two groups of works are pure arts. The third group of works is a series of observational paintings and two fine brushwork paintings. I spent two pieces of Chinese and Korean symbolic female clothing respectively.
The fourth group of works is a set of installations called Gossip/Transmission. I made three small sculptures and made prototypes with glue and rice paper. In order to express the process of transmission, the original sculptures were originally all white. I invited some students and friends to put various colors on their hands, and the sculpture itself was also colored in the process of transmission, resulting in a new image.
The last group is the works of Parsons Challenge, which is an extension of the second project in the collection of works. It is also a purely artistic installation work. In the future world, with the development of science and technology, sound pollution will become increasingly serious, and human ears will also slowly degenerate. I made a piece of ear shape installation after degradation in my imagination.
The above is the creation process of my complete collection of graphic design works of Parsons College. By the way, I know many students will be curious. Is there any difference between the identity of Korean nationality and that of everyone in the application process? To tell the truth, I'm not sure. It's natural light that applied for the teacher to help me all the time, so it's no different for me to answer without authorization. In any case, if there is any difficulty, natural light teacher will solve it for you!
At last, I have some suggestions for students who want to learn graphic design, that is, software and hand drawing ability are very necessary "basic skills", which can help us to form our ideas. Students must not ignore it. Besides, the accumulation in ordinary times is also very important, whether through the Internet or art exhibitions, see more artists' works, It is very helpful to help us broaden our horizons and get out of the bottleneck!
