Today, Natural Light is going to introduce to you Moxin, a student of zero foundation Parsons visual communication major who has been admitted with an exceptional and unconditional award. Moxin has not only received Parsons' unconditional award offer from Parsons School of Design, but also multiple offers from MICA Maryland Academy of Arts, Pratt Pratt College of Arts, CCA California Academy of Arts, and SVA New York School of Visual Arts! And the scholarship amounting to 922400 yuan!

Each student has its own characteristics and application uniqueness, Moxin is no exception. High school students in Canada, so it is difficult to communicate directly with teachers face to face. In addition, Moxin is basically the background of zero art foundation. All these factors add up to the difficulty of Moxin's application. However, in the process of contacting Moxin, the teachers also gradually found that despite the difficulties, Moxin and her mother are very optimistic and positive, which is the key reason why Moxin can get Parsons' visual communication and multi school offers.

Zero Foundation Parsons Visual Communication Major Application Experience:

0 Foundation won the offer of 5 schools, and the mother is the strongest educational backing behind the amazing explosive force

Before meeting Moxin, let's meet Moxin's mother, Moxin The teacher of the application department recalled this: "I have been engaged in the application work for many years, but I seldom see such a persistent and thoughtful person as Moxin's mother. I still remember the first time I talked to this mother who was studying with her in Canada last year. From the overseas phone calls, I can feel her attention and concern for children's education. When we talked about children's education, she was very gentle, but also very "demanding". In addition to application and planning, Moxin's mother also paid special attention to Moxin's learning progress and psychological state. She hopes Moxin can grow and gain through the study of natural light, and also hopes that Moxin can have broader opportunities and space in the future. "

Moxin's mother was originally engaged in art education in China. She knew the importance of accompanying teaching in the process of children's education. Therefore, for Moxin's sake, she gave up her career and work and accompanied Moxin full-time in a foreign country, just for the sake of better education for children, a better future for her, and more opportunities and platforms for her, Do what you want to do.

Moxin online teaching period

Teachers guide teaching through voice, video and computer editing

The constant "entanglement" from details to the overall situation has become the key reason for her progress

With the absolute power of mother as a solid backing, Moxin also burst out amazing energy during the portfolio course. Because of Mom's unique educational philosophy, professional teachers applied for teachers and educational administration teachers praised her after communicating with Moxin for the first time.

Moxin is gentle and cute, clever and sensible, and has a lot of ideas. Sometimes, his whimsical brain holes even amaze teachers; Moxin is also able to endure hardships, because she is still at school during the teaching period. With the school work and portfolio courses, the pressure of Moxin can be imagined, but every time she connects online, she is very active, always maintaining the best state of communication with teachers; At the same time, Moxin is also willing to try every idea and try to turn inspiration into works.

Because of these advantages of Moxin and its language advantages in the acquired conditions, professional teachers have customized very targeted learning arrangements and curriculum improvement plans for Moxin.

The first is the foundation, which is a necessary prerequisite that must be supplemented. During the basic courses, because Moxin is far away from home, coupled with jet lag, there are certain difficulties in communication, so the teacher guides the teaching and guides Moxin to learn the basics of painting through voice, video and computer editing. Moxin can always give the teacher's results and feedback in the fastest time with the most positive attitude. Seeing Moxin's rapid progress in a short period of time, the teacher planned to start the second stage of the course, the collection of works.

In the process of continuous interaction and understanding with Moxin, the teacher found that Moxin is sometimes easy to get tangled, and a work often needs constant polishing and deliberation. From material selection to specific creation, Moxin will "tangle" and think a lot at each step. The teacher then added more systematic aesthetic expansion courses and experimental courses to the curriculum, helping Moxin to use "entanglement" to refine ideas and put them into actual design. This is the reason why she finally made progress.

In the middle of Parsons' collection of visual communication works, Moxin returned home during the summer vacation. The teacher suggested that she go around Beijing to find inspiration and ideas, and conduct research in Gubei Water Town to find ideas.

After returning, Moxin began to create one of the projects. In this project, Moxin wrote a short story about the shooting content, and then used the conversion of text and graphics to design the book, and set the content. The final product is a manual book combining graphics, color and photography.

In the process of this project, the teacher further found Moxin's advantages in graphics and colors. She had a "feeling" for graphic elements and colors, and had more sensitive ideas; However, in terms of specific typesetting, font design and application, there is a lack of practical training and ability, and there is still much room for progress.

Therefore, the teacher took Moxin to carry out a series of targeted professional ability training based on this project, and finally solved the visual problems such as Chinese and English fonts, graphic creativity, etc.

The first and second design schemes in the early stage

Time zone, region and psychology, overcome many difficulties, and zero basis Parsons visual communication was accepted unconditionally with prizes

We have been having long-distance classes with Moxin, and have realized our own ideas step by step from zero basis by using painting, materials and design. The teacher has been providing seamless guidance across time zones and regions. Mom has also been providing strong and effective counseling and psychological support behind her back, and Moxin has also overcome many difficulties.

At the beginning, Moxin and her mother were worried that the teaching effect and results of online classes would not be ideal. After all, face-to-face teaching with teachers would be more direct, and they could interact and communicate with each other as soon as they met problems. However, with the teacher's constant support and guidance, Moxin also gradually regained confidence and enthusiasm in online teaching, so as to overcome many difficulties and work together with the teacher.

When Moxin and his family returned home for class, the teachers also received a small gift from Canada. The gift is not expensive, but it represents the trust of parents and students in natural light. "For me, this gift is priceless," the teacher in charge of Moxin's teaching and application told us.

Moxin Collection

In the later application process, Moxin and her mother repeatedly confirmed and discussed the requirements of the school with the teacher in more detail, and sorted out some details. In particular, in the part of English scores, there is also a story: Moxin began to learn English because she was young, so her English foundation was good. The application teacher suggested that she take an IELTS exam first in the summer, and the target score was 6.5.

Based on the experience of previous years and Parsons Parsons School of Design For the language score displayed on the official website, IELTS needs to reach 7.0. However, at the time of application, if the applicant meets three years of Canadian education experience, the language can be exempted. However, Moxin started studying in Canada in March 2016, so as of the application, it was still several months short, less than 3 years.

In order to enable Moxin to focus more on Parsons' visual communication works, the applicant teacher communicated with Parsons by email for many times, but unfortunately, the school finally refused the request for language free. Although the result is a little regrettable, it is also because of this that Moxin has enough time and energy to recognize the language as soon as possible.

In March 2019, Moxin was admitted to almost all schools except Parsons, including MICA scholarship of $11500 per year and CCA scholarship of $10000 per year. But on the morning of March 25, the application teacher woke up as usual and first swiped the student's mailbox. At this time, he saw the email sent by Parsons.

In the email, the school said: Considering the background of the students, we decided to let Moxin accept unconditionally! He also gave a scholarship of 12000 dollars a year. This is the biggest surprise and the most beautiful "reversal" for students and teachers. Moxin also immediately decided to go to Parsons.

Everything is the best "arrangement", because your focus and investment are in the precipitation of the process

It may take a little luck for any student to get an offer, but apart from 1% luck, the 99% effort and effort is the more critical decisive factor.

Moxin received five offers in the application, including MICA Maryland College of the Arts Parsons even took the award unconditionally, and all her efforts in learning were also reflected in her collection of works. Watercolor, photography, book binding, illustration, pencil drawing, typesetting, printing... In each collection project, Moxin uses different creative techniques for interdisciplinary fusion expression. At the end of today, let's take a look at Moxin's collection of works:

  Project 01:Yuli Dyehouse

In this project, Moxin combed the content of the story and her impression of Chinese dye houses by combining manual books, photography, and traditional Chinese illustration. The final inside pages of manual books are concretely expressed through elements and colors with a minimalist style.

In ancient China, people liked to gather in teahouses to talk about new things that happened in cities or in reality. With such a background, Moxin chooses to return to the original environment of the teahouse and tells a story that happened in the teahouse. In the specific visual presentation part, the elements of tea cup and melon seeds are integrated into the page design. For the final manual book design, the traditional Chinese binding method is used to integrate the pages.

  Project 02:The Homeless

The second project stems from an experience of Moxin. She once met a homeless old man whose face was almost half white beard. When Moxin proposed to take pictures for him, the old man was surprisingly polite and modest. He stroked his beard proudly and winked at Moxin like a child. It seems that he is not worried about his poverty.

His face through vicissitudes of life, his childish behavior when taking photos, and the mixed expression of kindness and experience in his eyes all remind Moxin of the rocks in nature that are still tough despite wind and rain. Therefore, in this project, Moxin added the texture of natural elements such as leaves and rocks to her works to express her feelings when she first met the elderly.

Because the old man's eyes gave Moxin the deepest feeling, Moxin put her eyes in the middle of the picture to express the shock and emotion when she saw the old man's eyes.

  Project 03:City and Life

In the third project, Moxin chose to use the relationship between light and shadow to express her feelings and ideas about the city. In the specific display process, she chose a very special angle to observe the city from the bottom up.

In her final work, she uses a square full of buildings to express people living in the city. The square symbolizes various rules in the existence of the city. They are closely related to people's dreams, achievements and aspirations. Through this design, Moxin's understanding of the relationship between cities and people can be expressed.

  Project 04:Constraint

The fourth project expresses the theme of a person's transformation process. In this project, Moxin put forward the idea that "society has the responsibility to protect and accept everyone's true side, and people should be more brave to voice their opposition".

Therefore, in this series of works, the first part mainly expresses the people excluded from "normal people". The second part expresses that people repress their inner essence because of the influence of external comments and thoughts. In the final work, the character in the story breaks all the rules and standards that restrict her to become her own.

During the design process, Moxin chose to use strings as a medium to help show the tension between individuals, society and self by showing different textures, dense shapes, or relief effects.

  Parsons Challenge:Musical Visual Transformation

Moxin has always been interested in the topic of "Music and Plants", so at the Parsons Challenge stage, Moxin took advantage of this opportunity to conduct in-depth creation and research. At the beginning, she detailed the theme into the concept of "Ecological Music and Plants", because after exploring many music types, Moxin She found that she was particularly interested in this topic.

While interested, Moxin also wondered whether there was a better way to express electronic music? To highlight its characteristics? If you want to study this topic, you need to answer the source of the question - the relationship between music and art.

In this process, Moxin found that the most important need is how to transform the music we hear into a sensible visual language. At this time, she thought of music videos, which may bring her some inspiration. So she found many music videos, and found that the visual rhythm displayed by these videos, and the mood and rhythm of the music itself, were extremely integrated and matched.

In order to better observe the similarities between music and video, Moxin chose a song named<So Far Away>as a sample. This song has rhythm and changes. Moxin watched videos in different scenes while recording song sound waves.

Through a series of experiments, we can understand the feeling of the song and find out which scene can produce the same feeling. Moxin found a breakthrough point and research direction, which led her to the next question: What kind of scenes can give the same feeling as songs? Moxin still found the answer in the video. Finally, she also expressed her findings in the form of vision.

Today, the natural light brings you the zero basis Parsons visual communication and exceptional admission cases. She can do all these things by strength! Mother's support is the most solid backing, art teachers' cross time zone and cross regional online teaching is the guidance, and the application teachers communicate with the school day and night as the assistance. Moxin himself is more hardworking, thoughtful, willing to think and try, so he received an offer from the dream school.
