　　 Start DIY "Making Clothes" with Mom

I have been studying in Chengdu International School, mainly studying A-level courses in the UK. My subjects at school are physics, mathematics and chemistry, and I have never studied any art courses. Moreover, because the school does not allow me to ask for leave, most of my learning works are done in extracurricular time.

Speaking of my artistic enlightenment, when I was a child, my mother liked to change clothes by herself, so I often went with her to change some clothes. After being flattered by my mother's ears and eyes, I became bold about my clothes. I would cut old clothes or change trousers into shorts, which was very interesting, It makes me proud to change a slightly tired garment into a new feeling through my own ideas.

When I grow up, I have more and more ideas. It seems that words and language can no longer fully express my ideas. I want to express what I want to express in another form, that is, art form.

When someone can understand what I want to express in this way, I will be very happy. It is the happiness that nothing else can bring. Then I want to learn clothes. I think clothes are alive. Clothes can express a person's personality, some emotions, etc. I want to give people different feelings through different designs and tailoring. Maybe it is more intuitive than a picture to let others know what I want to express.

Compared with the background of zero foundation, I also know clearly that my advantage is that I have many ideas. I like to try different ways to create, not only in terms of materials, but also in terms of performance art.

The disadvantage is that my painting skills are really poor, which has made me suffer in the previous stage. However, the teacher who tutored my work collection has also worked hard to help me in professional skills, which still reassures me.

　　 I'm very "compatible" with Saint Martin

The first time I knew this school was in the basic class, the teacher talked about this school when talking with me. She said she could go Central Saint Martin College of Art and Design CSM learning clothes is awesome! Then I began to pay attention to the school, browsing the official website, official blog, student works and so on.

My personality is like doing what I want to do, and I don't consider others' opinions very much. So after watching many videos about students' life and teaching, I felt that this school was exactly what I wanted to go to.

After I got the offer from CSM, I thought about the reasons. First of all, my collection of works is very rich, and involves clothing, pure art, installation, painting, and performance art, which is more consistent with the style of the college's specialty;

Secondly, I also attach great importance to my sketchbook, which is relatively perfect in all aspects, so I still have advantages in my profession;

Secondly, I was full of Energy during the interview. The interviewer said that I was a very powerful person whether I did these projects or talked to me. He also said that I would gain a lot if I persisted in doing so!

　　 My Portfolio Project

There are five items in my collection of works. Two items are about clothing - vagrancy and trisomy, and two devices - one is based on a leukemia film, the other is about growth, and the last item is about painting and collage.

In fact, the first clothing project, Three Body People, is a cooperative interdisciplinary project, which was jointly completed by students in natural light, products and illustrations. Its name is Exploring and analyzing the three body people. I am responsible for designing clothing. Our main task is to design the image of three body people in our imagination according to the description of three body people in the book and reasoning.

We find in the book that the three body people communicate by brain waves, and there are three suns around the planet where they live that will rise or fall irregularly. If these suns rise together, the three body people will be dehydrated. After the sun goes down, they will absorb water and become the same, So we think that they may have a very large and heavy spine to support them to walk under different gravity;

With these reasoning, I started my research. I first thought of a kind of creature, the water bear, which can survive in a particularly harsh environment. Because the environment where the three body people live is also very extreme, we used the combination of three body people and snakes to come up with the first scheme. Then we found many large animal bones and snake scales.

Finally, 8 of these 10 designs were selected as my Final Work, and the ready-made clothes produced a set of three body images that we finally designed.

The second project is called vagrancy. The inspiration of this project comes from my observation in life. I found that those who dress brightly on the street will not be noticed at a glance, but the clothes of vagrants are very eye-catching, which interests me very much.

So I started the production of this project. After I discussed this topic with my teacher and refined some directions, Mindmap came out soon. Then, according to some important points emanating from Mindmap, I continued to collect inspiration while making Sketchbook;

For example, I added the tramp's messy hair to the production of buttons, and then part of my favorite project was that I did a behavioral experiment. I found a lot of cardboard, took a white short sleeve, wrote many keywords, asked for help and other slogans, and went to the street to imagine myself as a tramp to experience the real feelings.

Later, I took some photos of the silhouette as the silhouette of the clothes themselves, and added many printed fabrics made by myself. I made different combinations according to the special texture of the paper shell to produce a beautiful print.

In my collection of works, my favorite project is the project of wandering. First, I tried many different materials. Second, the experience of street performance art makes me feel very interesting. It is also because this experience gives me a lot of silhouettes to refer to in the design. Finally, I used a lot of printed fabrics designed by myself to the final design, These fabrics make my clothes very distinctive.

　　 Some immature but useful suggestions

I know that there are many online workshops and interdisciplinary courses in natural light. I really suggest that you can try more. In addition to having some interesting experiences in the production of busy collections, you can also get some unexpected gains. As for the proposal to apply for St. Martin, according to my communication with the admissions officer during the interview, Sketchbook is still very important. You can also try to do something more purely artistic. If you have time, you can do more interdisciplinary experiments. As for other suggestions, time arrangement is very important. Don't be lazy and try not to stay up late. It will save you a lot of trouble to practice the basics of painting.
