What is the art of books? Is it for reading, writing, and writing, especially for writers? Or must it be square and dimensioned? Graduated from the book art professional works collection of Professor Camberwell of Lunyi to introduce her understanding of book art. Her works have participated in the London Book Fair, Plymouth Book Fair, Shanghai Book Fair and Hong Kong Art Book Fair. Her students have added new sound to book art, including installation, architecture, photography, chemistry, sculpture and sound art, New media interaction has become the transmission of voice for social issues and vulnerable groups. What kind of book art works collection can make her students get the offer of UAL and Glasgow?

Before I went abroad, like many students, my understanding of the art of books was the beautiful covers in bookstores, which were printed in all directions. But after I went abroad, I learned this major, and then I had a new understanding of it. I found that the concept of books is not like this at all. It can be in a variety of shapes, can not be bound (bound) together, can not be printed on paper, and a book can not have any pictures or any text.
As Teacher Mona said, many times when we mention book art or book binding, we think of the beautiful covers on books in all directions. The "art points" and "design points" of the whole book are probably concentrated on the book cover, or at most on the layout of the inner page of the book. But does book design really stop there? Let's take UAL Camberwell as an example.

In fact, a book can also have a variety of forms. It can be an origami similar to a staggered stack, can be hollowed out, can sew the pictures and words on it, or can be made of strange materials. Take a specific look at this major, Camberwell College of Art In addition to book Arts and MA degrees, Titel in this major also has a part of "Visual Arts" in front of it. Compared with book cover design, Camberwell defines books as "works of art" that can let artists use their imagination. Camberwell attaches great importance to the cultural significance and creativity of books, as well as the functionality of artists' personal feelings.

Another example is the collection of works by Wu, a natural light student. She presents books as a device to express her feelings. She was once impressed by the experience of falling into the water when she was a child. With falling into the water, her mood also experienced weakness, loneliness and helplessness. The surging water even made her feel that death was approaching. Such a horrible experience not only became an indelible shadow in Wu's mind, but also made her suffer from deep-sea phobia.
In her collection of works, Wu showed such a special experience in the form of books+devices. She first investigated the group of deep-sea phobia, and found that patients often fear sharp things, such as nails, scissors, etc; And patients are more afraid of objects that are repeated or recycled; Finally, for patients, the most frightening thing should be the feeling of suffocation in a closed space. In order to express these abstract emotions, Wu made them concrete, and used spikes, simulated eyeballs, grid divided and expansive page designs to express abstract emotions.

In the end, although the book has only three pages, each page uses different device forms and materials to express different levels of emotions and emotions.

For another example, in another student's work collection, he discussed the topic of "global warming". Due to the excessive development of modern industry, a large number of greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere, leading to a series of natural disasters, such as global warming, ice melting and sea level rise caused by the greenhouse effect. On the basis of this topic, Zhi got inspiration from another art scene. This experimental project was initiated by the World Wildlife Fund to arouse people's awareness of environmental protection. They placed 1000 ice men in Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin. These ice men melted unstoppably under the gaze of people.

Therefore, in his book, Zhi uses acrylic panels as the inner page and overlay of the book, and adds liquids of different components to different pages to show the corresponding element components at different levels.

Compared with the books we usually see, books in these forms are really very different from "books", because most people may think that books are connected with words and formal typesetting, but in fact, such books with the concept of art and design elements are also books.
It is this way that the "book", which breaks through the inherent mode of thinking, can bring a new interpretation of the book in the form of visual art. Books can be a medium for writers to write and convey their ideas, and also a way for artists to express their creativity.
