Ontario University of Art and Design Commonly known as OCAD University, it is a government operated higher education and research institution located in Toronto, the capital of Ontario. It was founded in 1876 as the Ontario College of the Arts to expand professional art training and promote art education in the city. Between 1886 and 1996, the institution changed its name three times, and then changed its name to Ontario College of Art and Design.
According to some unofficial sources, the admission rate of OCAD University is about 40% to 50%. About 23% of the 255 graduate students are international students, and they account for about 9% of the total number of undergraduate students. The institution has more than 250 full-time academic lecturers and more than 485 administrative staff.
The academic structure of OCAD is divided into three colleges, focusing on different disciplines such as art, design, arts and science. Each college offers a series of educational courses covering undergraduate and graduate levels. It also conducts research on digital media industry, expression, experience and immersion under the Digital Media Research and Innovation Institute, which has 19 laboratories and centers. The university is a vibrant community with 4601 students, 20% of whom come from more than 50 countries outside Canada.
