Are there any special requirements for the submission of individual works when applying to British art schools? For visual communication, architecture, product and fashion majors, the requirements for the collection of works are also different. Visual communication majors emphasize the diversity of projects and the diversity of final work forms, which may include device or video presentation; Architecture majors pay attention to the design process, and the collection of works should include representative works of important design work, rather than comprehensive records; Product majors need to demonstrate their ability and innovative thinking through electronic collections of works, which should reflect artistic insights, interests and thinking patterns.

When applying to British art schools, the submission of individual works sets has the following special requirements:

   1. Royal Academy of Arts

Postgraduate portfolio: It needs to show design ability, including painting, model making, design research process, and the final draft of the work. The collection of works needs to include a description of the work, a description of the work or other learning reports. Up to 20 works can be uploaded, each work can be a completed picture or video, and up to 6 supplementary pictures can be uploaded. The picture format is JPG or PNG, each picture is no more than 2MB, the size is no more than 1024x768 pixels, and the video format is MOV, MP4 or M4V, no more than 80MB. Videos in other formats need to be sent to VIMEO, and then leave a link.

   2. Central Saint Martin College

Undergraduate portfolio: It is required to show the ability through an electronic portfolio, with at least four projects, including the final results of the previous education; 35-50 sketch books/sample books/illustrations/paintings, using 40cm * 50cm paper. Works should reflect artistic opinions, interests, and thinking patterns, and can be presented in any media.

Postgraduate portfolio: It also needs to show the ability through electronic portfolio, at least four projects, 50 sketches/sample books/illustrations/paintings (or more). Works should reflect artistic opinions, interests, and thinking patterns. They can use 2D or 3D technology. They can be sketches, collective projects, or individual works.

   three London Fashion Institute

Undergraduate portfolio: it should reflect the exploration process and the final product, and can include sketch, painting, sketch book, color research, material investigation, design research and development (2D and 3D), structure, consumer and market news, text notes, design display pages or works in any form. If you have 3D works, you should take photos and bring them with you during the interview. There is no limit on the number of works, but they need to be carried during the interview. It is suggested to select five items and add a sketch book.

Postgraduate portfolio: It is required to be similar to the undergraduate portfolio. The portfolio should reflect the applicant's exploration process and final product, including sketch, painting, sketch book, color research, material investigation, design and development (2D and 3D), structure, consumer and market news, text notes, design display pages or works in any form.

   four Edinburgh College of Art

Undergraduate portfolio: It needs to show the methods of research and exploration, rather than perfect finished products. Film and TV majors need to upload one or two video files, or links, no longer than 5 minutes, and attach a text introduction. Other professions require up to 10 pieces of sketch book/manuscript works, up to 10 pieces of completed works and up to 5 pieces of works showing the impact on. Each picture can have up to 100 words for text introduction. To apply for multiple majors, you must upload your portfolio separately.

Postgraduate portfolio: It must be submitted online in PDF format (one document), A4 size, and arranged horizontally. Write your name on the first page, followed by your resume and personal statement. Title the project and annotate the painting. Arrange the works in an easy to understand way.

   5. General requirements for works collection

Content: The collection needs to show all works inspired, conceived, developed, produced and shaped, that is, from Inspiration to Development Point, Development Process, Outcome to Final Outcome.

Quantity: 30 to 60 pieces of works for undergraduates and more than 50 pieces of works for postgraduates. The specific quantity may vary depending on schools and majors.

Form: It can be sketch, painting, design, photography and other forms. The key is to show personal artistic insights, interests and thinking patterns.

   6. Preparation process of works collection

Fundamentals of painting: The UK attaches great importance to students' basic skills, and students who do not have a solid foundation must strengthen the training of color and modeling.

Professional creativity: determine the direction, materials and quantity of the portfolio project according to the specific requirements of the applied profession. Define the project theme and plan the completion time of each specific project as a whole.

Production and typesetting: less but exquisite, highlighting creativity and theme. Works designed with software are easy to handle, and can be directly stored in JPEG format. 3D works need to take the best photos.

Is it important to study in the UK? Through the above requirements, you can better prepare and submit your own collection of works, and improve the success rate of applying to British art schools.
