What are the necessary knowledge points for interaction design graduate students to learn when they change from basic to professional, apply for both UK and Australia, and win UNSW and RMIT? How many steps does it take to change from film to professional to interactive design? The four projects of the portfolio include game design, interaction design, product design, device, interface design, psychology, space and other fields. Let's take a look at how this student who has a wide range of majors successfully applied.
What unexpected problems will be encountered when changing from an environment that has adapted to offline education for many years in China to online teaching? When these difficulties are Natural light art study abroad In front of student Shiwen, she also gave the best answer in her own way and with the natural light professional instructor——
Introduction to Graduate Students of Interaction Design:
Hello, my name is Shiwen.
He is a graduate student of interaction design in 2019/2020. Compared with the rich experience of other students, my application experience may be relatively "standard"~if there is anything unique about my experience, it may be my background of changing major. I changed from film to major, and applied for interaction design with zero foundation.
The professional difference between interaction and film is really great. Film is a very story based subject, but for interaction majors, like my collection of works, most of the inspiration for the projects in it comes from some stories, or the pain points that everyone can really feel in life.
In natural light, I studied for more than a year. In this year, I also went from basic courses and hand painting courses to professional courses of interaction. Because I am a native of Shenyang, but I went to college in Chengdu, I basically completed my classes online and offline.
What are the different feelings in the interaction design course?
My biggest feeling about curriculum is that compared with school Teaching of composition template of works The natural light will pay more attention to my subjective thoughts and will not have many complicated rules. Interaction with teachers or communication with everyone is very free.
I think this kind of learning form is actually very good and suitable for art disciplines. After all, art forms are diverse, and the most important thing is the expression of thinking.
When you communicate with classmates or teachers in other majors, you are actually exchanging ideas. You can gain many other perspectives when you face the same thing or project topics in this process.
Do you think there are any interesting or troublesome links in the process of creating interactive design works?
Yes, there are.
For example, because I changed my major, there are some professional software that I haven't touched before. This is actually a little difficult for me, because the software required by the film profession is really different from the interaction. It is not like the generic software that most art design majors can use, such as PS and AI.
So in addition to the daily learning with teachers, I need to read the online tutorials for self-study, so as to conduct the courses better and more efficiently. Among them, I think it is also the process of learning "self-study" by myself. After all, self-study ability is very important when I want to study abroad in the future.
Secondly, in terms of curriculum, especially in the later stage, I don't think it is a problem, but there will be many details that need to be taken care of by me and the teacher. Because the collection of works is ready, but the requirements of different schools are different, such as typesetting, page number, content presentation form, format, etc. In fact, this link needs special attention from everyone.
Therefore, for the requirements of the composition of each school's work collection, the teacher will first send me an electronic document, then voice communication and explanation, and then show me some examples. After that, I will lead the process, sort out the content of the work collection for different schools, and then send it to the teacher. After that, we discussed again whether to replace some works, or whether to have a better presentation and layout.
Analysis of the Master of Interaction Design 0 Foundation to Professional Portfolio Project
My work is divided into 4 projects. First Project< Why Do Some People Suffer from Depression?& Gt; is a VR game.
Second project< Do You Really Heave Weather App?& Gt; is a weather forecast APP.
Third< What Kind of Gift Can Express Your Love?& Gt; is an interdisciplinary project, which is an interactive music device combined with product design specialty.
Fourth project< What People Can Do at a Party with Friends?& Gt; is a holographic projection desktop game.
Which of the four projects do you like best? Why?
My favorite is the first interaction design project. Because this project is inspired by the true stories of friends around us. Such a project makes me feel that it can help him and this kind of people. Secondly, virtual reality is also an area of great interest to me.
In this project, I first investigated two very famous actors at home and abroad, namely Leslie Cheung and Heath Ldger.
For a long time in the past, I have the same prejudices and misconceptions as many people. My knowledge of depression is limited to news or books. At that time, I just thought that depression meant unhappiness. Most people who were unhappy because of depression were not strong enough.
Until depression really happened to me, a good friend of mine was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety.
At this time, I found that depression was not as I thought it would be. So I read a lot of related books to seriously understand depression. I hope I can do something to alleviate her pain. In this process, I also gradually found that not everyone, even those close to her, could understand her or accept the fact that she suffered from depression.
I know that many people suffer from depression, some of whom even lost their lives, and the reason why they left is often not to cause trouble to people or the world. Many people do not reflect on what they have done in this matter until they lose their friends or lovers. However, our lovers or friends are no longer here.
Therefore, I made research based on this fact. I found that the estimated number of patients with depression in the world is up to 350 million, that is, one in every 20 people has depression. In addition, the mortality rate of depression is also far higher than that of some physiological diseases. The number of suicide deaths per year is about 1 million.
But even in such a serious situation, the treatment of patients with depression is not optimistic. 20% of them are receiving proper treatment in accordance with medical rules. 6% of the people only received drug treatment, but 37% did not receive treatment at all.
In fact, this has a lot to do with people's prejudice and lack of understanding of depression. Even many people with depression do not understand their own symptoms, or think that their illness is due to their cowardice, so they are shy of asking for truly effective treatment. The superposition of various factors often leads to the deterioration of the patient's condition and eventual loss of life.
Based on these research results, I created this project. Because depression is caused by many factors, I have built a number of game scenes. The main lines of the game are childhood, adolescence and youth.
Many of your courses are completed through online classes. What are your experiences about online classes?
There are some differences between online and offline classes in form.
It can be said that each has its advantages and disadvantages. Online teaching will be more efficient and will not be affected by the location and environment. For example, I can directly feedback my ideas and my creative ideas to teachers through the network.
This feedback is immediate. I don't need to wait until the next class to communicate with the teacher or ask questions again. For example, we have many problems, which are solved on the same day.
And my personal experience is that online classes actually improve my efficiency to a certain extent, because many things are solved immediately. As for the quality of your work collection, I personally think the most important thing is yourself. Teachers can only provide assistance and guidance. If you are strict with your own standards, you will not allow your work to be poor in quality. You will drive yourself to do better.
What do you think is the most important thing in online class?
Don't be distracted and ask more questions.
Because the online mode is two people across the screen. Most of the time is screen sharing+voice. It may be difficult for teachers and you to see each other's state or expression. This will lead to that if you lose your mind, no one will remind you. Therefore, we need to be able to urge ourselves to adjust our state before class, and we can interact with teachers effectively when we are in a relatively centralized state during class.
In addition, in addition to asking questions if you don't understand, you can exchange your ideas with teachers more. I don't think we need to be afraid to tell the teacher what we think. I also had concerns at the beginning. I was afraid that the teacher thought my ideas were immature or not professional enough. But it is precisely because my idea is not mature enough that I need the help and guidance of teachers.
And lecturing is an interactive process. I often ask some divergent questions in class, which is actually a brainstorming process. My teacher and I exchange our ideas on this matter, so that my work can become more perfect.
Interaction design teacher talks about teaching
Teaching itself is a thing that can be successfully completed only in a good information interaction environment. So for Shiwen's teaching, the difference between online teaching and offline teaching lies in the change of interactive environment. Then, compared with offline teaching, Shiwen and I need to face the following differences in online teaching:
1. Lagging of information transmission
First of all, when preparing for the course, I need to think in advance that when I want to convey information to students, it may be delayed due to various objective factors. Secondly, if I can't catch Shiwen's feedback in time, the efficiency of teaching will decline.
But at the same time, on the positive side, we can effectively use this to cultivate the tacit understanding between teachers and students, and let us all be in a very close and focused learning environment. My previous teaching experience also tells me that teachers and students often have closer teacher-student relationship after going through online classes.
2. Limitations of computer skills
Not every teacher has the opportunity to contact and learn a variety of computer software unrelated to his own specialty. However, online teaching can strengthen teachers' software and hardware strength, so online teaching is also a process of learning and improving their teaching ability.
For example, when I teach offline classes, I can directly interact with students to complete many things very intuitively, but the network limits this. I need to tell my students in a more acceptable and effective way.
At the same time, for students in the Department of Design Innovation, it is based on the actual software teaching, so that students can learn the design spirit with the purpose as the first power of design as the core, and open up the vision of interaction design students.
3. Lack of independence
It is the teacher's job to preach and teach to dispel doubts, and students should learn independent personality from teachers before learning knowledge. Online classes are different from offline classes. After forcing students to lose their dependence on teachers, students will gradually adapt to the rhythm of solving problems independently. I believe that students who can adapt to online teaching are also excellent independent designers. I also hope that Shiwen can grow into a more excellent creative person in the future!
