New York University undergraduate portfolio requirements:
Film Research
An article on film, director or film related topics, 5-10 pages. Use one page of paper to state three questions. First, whether there is any film related course work before. Second, which part of the film field are you most interested in? Film category, director or theory. Third, career ambition: do you want to be a film journalist, critic, film museum or archive staff, professional filmmaker or screenwriter or producer.
Screenwriter
(1) Cover: name, date of birth, application deadline, professional name, work type (TV script, script, film script, short story, etc.), mailing address and contact information. If you are a transfer student, please indicate the name of the university or the major of the university.
(2) Purpose statement: no more than 300 words, based on a brief description of personal life, background or special experience, what preparation has been made for the major or what research is expected to be carried out.
(3) Requirements for written works: 3-4 articles, with a total of no less than 15 pages and no more than 25 pages. At least one of them is a screenplay (movie script, stage script or TV script), and the other 2-3 can be traditional screenplays, memoirs, short stories, science fiction, documentary, etc., but the subject matter is not limited to this. Please choose a vivid, independent story that contains internal conflicts. There is a clear leading role, beginning, process and end. Do not bind the collection. It is recommended to use staples and paper clips. Note: Works, poems, news, articles from other colleges and universities, etc. completed by the cooperation will not be considered, and DVDs and CDs will not be sent. Please indicate the name of the applicant on each page of the purpose statement and portfolio.
Film and Television
1. Resume: 1 page pdf, showing creative works, activities and relevant work experience. Personal information includes full name, address, date of birth, name of high school and other community curriculum activities or works.
2. Interesting stories about leadership and cooperation: no more than 300 words, double spaced, 1 page pdf, describing an experience, demonstrating the ability to think and tell stories.
3. Personal story: tell a life story and how it affects you or people around you. Don't repeat the reasons for applying for this major. Up to 4 pages pdf, double spaced, 8.5 "x 11" paper.
4. Creative submission (1 out of 4):
a. Films or videos, experimental documentaries, animations, etc., with a total length of no more than 10 minutes, do not accept stage plays and theater performances. Please submit a complete work that reflects your personal ability and ability to attract audiences, clarify the focus of the video, and test and play it before submission. If you submit a link, please do not set a download program or password. The video should be less than 125MB. If it exceeds the standard, please provide a YouTube or Vimeo link on Slideroom.
b. A collection of sketches, paintings, sculptures, or designs. The idea and theme shall be clear, and the number of photos or scans shall be less than 10.
c. Image story series, 10-15 pieces, unlimited theme. The form can be painting, still photos or montage, which needs to convey clear and imaginative visual feelings.
d. Creative writing can be short stories, movie scripts or stage play scripts, with a total length of no more than 6 pages. Use script format or double spaced, 8.5 "x 11" paper.

Photography and Imaging
(1) Photography Collection Of the 15 images, 4-5 must comply with the following requirements:
Up to 5 images are not based on photos, and we encourage the submission of sound, video art and other media works.
Please submit 5-7 images to express one of the following themes and explain them in the statement:
a. Picture series, showing different states of the same scene under different light/time.
b. Take artwork as an example to illustrate the theory of parallel universe, with unlimited media.
c. Make a photo to prove the "truth" and a photo to prove the "illusion".
(2) A short essay on the following four points, each of which should not exceed 100 words.
a. Self introduction, text or video link less than 30 seconds
b. Statement: briefly describe the submitted work, and explain what you want to express and the original intention of creation.
c. Describe a photo or photographer you have been following for a long time and explain its appeal.
d. In your opinion, what is the significance of photo/image based art in the 21st century?
(3) Survey and list the photography, digital imaging, art and art history courses taken in high school or university. Briefly describe personal photography and imaging skills. Do you have imaging experience? If you want to share a website or blog, please provide a URL.
graduate student
New York University graduate portfolio requirements:
Production major
No production background is required, but the potential creative ability of production is enough. It is hoped that it can be reflected in visual and written materials.
Application materials: online application materials, academic archives, examination results, letters of recommendation and supplementary materials.
The creative collection consists of five parts, which are submitted through Slideroom (with service fee). Please upload the collection before the deadline.
1. Visual works: can be cooperative, as long as the applicant provides most of his creativity (such as director, producer, author, photographer or editor) and details his personal contributions. Don't mix video and photography, choose a format.
Video: There is no limit to the number of videos, and the total duration is not more than 30 minutes. The clips of stage plays or theater performances are not accepted. You can upload 10 minutes of videos on the multimedia page of Slideroom. Please provide links for overtime videos. Please test before uploading. If you decide to provide a link, make sure you do not need a download or password.
Photography (static): no more than 10 pictures, no limit on theme, no limit on black and white color, and no limit on comments. The size should be 8 "x 10" or as close as possible. It can be displayed through other media, such as painting, illustration, sculpture, scenery design, clothing design, etc. Uploaded still images and scanned copies shall be at least 72dpi. 8" x 10"。
2. The written materials must include the following contents:
a. The story outline of the 4-minute silent film. It includes the plot and characters, but does not need to describe voice over, dialogue or music. Pdf format, double spacing, no more than 3 pages.
b. The scene of dialogue between two people. Ask a character to say something unexpected, or ask a question that can change their relationship. You can make a one sentence description for the characters, including necessary information, without background introduction. Write in script format or pdf, no more than 2 pages.
c. An applicant who wants to make a feature film should have long script ideas, narrative films or documentaries. Pdf format, double spacing, typing, no more than 1 page.
d. For passport size personal photos, please upload them first when opening the Slideroom multimedia page.
Screenwriter
Resume, please list all published or completed works, and work experience related to writing.
Personal statement of intent: less than 750 words, describing personal interest and professional direction. What will it bring to the screenwriting profession? How to learn and benefit? Please explain your interest in writing, what you like about your major and other reasons for applying.
Three letters of recommendation. The transcripts and letters of recommendation of the applicants at the undergraduate and graduate stages will be listed as the items to be considered for admission.
The collection of works (not returned) is divided into three parts:
(1) Cover: name (surname, first name), date of birth, project and campus (graduate students and New York), professional direction (film, drama or television), work type (television script, script, film script), mailing address and contact information when applying online.
(2) Creative submission: fill in the form when applying online to confirm and describe the submitted works.
(3) Writing portfolio: Please strictly comply with the following requirements, otherwise it will not be considered.
Script Creation and Film and Television Script Creation
Submit complete and refined works, and all works should be produced in the correct format (if you are not very familiar with the dramatic structure, it is recommended to use the final draft). Must include a script for the stage or screen, up to 50 pages. You can submit additional works within the quantity limit. The direction of script creation is 90 pages, and the direction of film and television script creation is 120 pages.
Television programming
Submit complete and refined works. All works should be produced in the correct format (if not very familiar with the dramatic structure, it is recommended to use the final draft), with a maximum of 50 pages. At least one spec script and one pilot script shall be included. The script for sales promotion may not be the current one, but at least it should be recent. These two scripts can be in the format of half an hour or one hour. Both scripts in the half hour format should not exceed 33 pages, and those in the hour format should not exceed 48 pages.
All materials: Do not send DVDs or CDs with your portfolio. Please indicate your full name on all pages of your writing work. The submission shall be entirely the matter of the applicant, and the content not jointly written will be considered. Please submit a copy and an electronic version of your writing portfolio.
Telecommunication Design
Considering the diversity of applicants' backgrounds, it is optional to submit a portfolio. Collection materials do not require professional quality, or even interactive media projects. The college encourages applicants to submit works that reflect their interests or experience. The decision of admission will not be based on whether they have submitted a collection of works.
If you want to publish a collection of works, please prepare the following:
Works are limited to one format, only one: if possible, the preferred method is URL. Please provide a list of required plug-ins or technical specifications, and carefully check whether all links are normal. There is no need to send an email to show the content. The email contains a brief introduction to the collection of works. CD (please specify a Mac, PC or both disks, and send a disk. The video is limited to one DVD (NTSC), with a maximum of three parts. The total length does not exceed 15 minutes. The overtime part will not be viewed and printed. The size of printed photos and portfolios shall not exceed 11 ″ x 14 ″, the size of writing samples shall not exceed 20 pages, and the size of audio CDs shall not exceed 15 minutes.
Animation and Digital Arts
DVD (limited to animation, science fiction or documentary videos, still images, sound clips, music, and several pieces of content can be placed, each piece of content shall not exceed 5 minutes. Please list DVD information in the content overview of creative works collection, and make a brief introduction for each piece. The hospital strongly recommends online backup.)
A printed version of Storyboard, 8.5 ″ x 11 ″, tells the story of a person growing a flower and watching it grow. Please use original materials, including paintings, photos, text or mixed print media.
Two pages of images (four for one page) printed version, 8.5 ″ x 11 ″, can design pages and organize images at will. Please use original materials, including paintings, photos, text or plane mixed media.
Game Design
(1) Points out areas of concern: programming, game design, visual design, and reviews.
(2) Resume: 1 page, listing the projects done and relevant work experience.
(3) Personal statement: no more than 2 pages in pdf format. Talk about what is the most attractive about the game, and how to see the impact of your own in this field.
(4) Critical analysis of a game: no more than 1 page in pdf format. There is no need to explain. What the hospital values is the view on operation.
(5) 1-2 projects: can be digital games, non digital games, game related websites, visual design, articles about games or other creative works. It includes a 1-page design statement, pdf format, and an overview of project objectives, individual contributions (if it is a team work) and what has been learned from it. At the end, please list all the files related to the project. Each project can submit 10 images at most. If it is a video project, it should not exceed 10 minutes. Please note that at least one form of all project materials is not plain text or pure sound. A maximum of 2 projects shall be submitted, and each project shall be stated separately.
