   New York University Tisch College Game Design Game Design MFA


Game Design MFA is a two-year master's degree. Students study game design and development in a highly integrated and interdisciplinary context, with the goal of becoming game designers and developers, as well as future artists in the field of games.


The two-year course covers the following areas:

Game design - how game design works and how to use computers and other media to create meaningful interactive experiences

Game production - creation of digital games

Game research - critical theory and academic research around the concept of game

Game History - Analysis of all game history from ancient board games to today's electronic games

Studio course - focusing on collaborative team creation of digital games

Thesis - the key point of the second year of the course. Students can study the selected project individually or in groups

Game Lab - in-depth study of specific game types or designer's game works

Elective course – a wide range of courses, discussing all contents from game news to games and players (courses on game psychology and emotion)


In addition, graduate students majoring in game design can participate in any other professional courses of NYU as an elective course. Most of them have participated in NYU's famous ITP design plan and learned interaction design from it. You can also cooperate with NYU's world-famous film majors to jointly develop game script creation, as well as learn programming, computer and other related knowledge in the engineering college.
