The art management minor course offered by Alfred University aims to teach students how to support and promote artists and art activities, manage finance and develop projects for art organizations. Art managers play a key role in presenting wonderful performances, paintings, scripts, songs, sculptures and other works of art to the public. They need to combine business skills and artistic understanding.


Alfred University Art Management


   This minor course includes the following:


● Financial Accounting (ACCT 211)

● Internship (BUSI 485), specifically for art management

● Principles of Microeconomics (ECON 201)

● Marketing Principles and Management (MKTG 221)

● Choose an additional business course in Family Business Management (BUSI 301) or 21st Century Entrepreneurship (BUSI 439)


 Art Management at Alfred University


   Choose at least three art courses, of which at least one is from the following Part A and at least one is from Part B:


● Part A - History and Theory: including art history, dance history, overview of American literature, interdisciplinary art seminar, music appreciation, world music, art philosophy, etc.


● Part B - Application and studio skills courses: including elementary painting, elementary sculpture, basic black and white photography, introduction to ceramic art, visual communication, exhibition design (limited to art and design students), dance (any course), writing topics, novel creation, script creation, poetry creation, etc.


Minor courses require students to complete at least half of their business courses at Alfred University, and must achieve a GPA of 2.0 or higher in the subjects completing minor courses.


   Examples of jobs for graduates with a minor in art management include:

● Festival Director


● Concert Hall Director


● Federal, state or city art administrators


● Independent Producers/Promoters


● Fundraisers of art organizations


● Art Marketing Director


● Tour Production Manager


● Public art administrator

   Interdisciplinary approach


The art management minor of Alfred University provides you with an interdisciplinary approach to art business and art organization management. Our courses provide a combination of art and business history, theory and practical learning experience, including internships focusing on art management.
