Jiarong is a typical "cloud student" of natural light. She has worked in the art industry for two years and has her own opinions on artistic creation. But when these creative ideas are put into the production of works, Jiarong Encountered a lot of students are faced with confusion, "too many ideas to express, too broad, leading to the vortex of exploring expression, ignoring the essence of things". In the face of such confusion, Jiarong and the "always online" natural light teacher experienced repeated in-depth discussions. Under the guidance of the teacher, she decided to overturn her achievements and start again, and finally presented a more complete work, which was also recognized by Huangyi.

Q: What's your unique experience? What impact do these experiences have on your art study abroad?

When I was in college, I had two Nordic study tours with the school, visited some European art museums and buildings, and had exchanges and visits with local art schools and designer studios. At the same time, there are some friends who are studying art in the UK, so they have more contact with European art, which is also an advance understanding for studying abroad.

When I just graduated, I was not sure what I would do, but because I like art and exhibition, I worked as curator assistant, gallery assistant, artist assistant and so on in the work practice. Through interviewing artists, arranging and planning art projects, media communication and publicity, and participating in commercial art projects, I have gained a more comprehensive understanding of the art industry.

When you decide to study abroad, you will have a different vision when you return to art creation, so you will be more clear about your choice when you apply for a major.

Q: How long have you been teaching in natural light? What is the course like?

I studied in natural light for nearly a year. When encountering bottlenecks and problems, I will communicate with my teacher on the Internet, and my teacher's opinions and suggestions have given me great help in the process of making my portfolio.

I have worked for two years, so I am quite clear about my creative direction and ideas; But after all, my personal strength is weak, so I still hope to get guidance from teachers who come back from relevant colleges and universities when applying for studying abroad. Because under the supervision of teachers, you will get a more comprehensive perspective on your work than if you worked hard.

To sum up, the basic process of completing a project is: first, we will discuss the inspiration of creation with the teacher, and then do research and experiments; For example, abstract inspiration can be visualized, or concrete phenomena can be abstracted. This process will have more communication with teachers. In addition to recommending me to see some relevant artists or materials, I will also give some different views or guidance on my experiments. Then when the work is output, we will also discuss with the teacher how to display the content of the work better.

Q: Your portfolio contains a total of ⼏ items ⽬? Can you tell us something about these items?

my Studying Abroad in Pure Art Major The collection contains 5 items in total, and the whole collection is roughly permeated with a clue, the main purpose of which is to discuss the internal and external links between people and the world, and then spread out from different directions in each work.

Here, I will mainly talk about the first project, because it is also the project led most by teachers. This work mainly discusses the relationship between myself, my family and the changing environment of the city. The origin of creation is also the inspiration from the works of my undergraduate period; I continued to develop my work created after graduation. At first, I made an interactive hexagonal box, and then I made two small wooden boxes with comprehensive materials; But at the beginning, the view was too broad, which led to being trapped in the vortex of exploring expression, and ignoring some essential things.

When the work is half finished, I suddenly feel that the size of the work is too small, the narrative force is too weak, and I was very confused. Later, after an in-depth discussion with the teacher, I immediately felt enlightened and determined to reverse the previous achievements. During the change, the teacher provided some artists' works for my reference and inspiration, and reminded me of some key issues to pay attention to. Fortunately, after relatively big changes, we found a better expression. The final presentation is a work combining behavior and installation, which is relatively complete.

Q: What challenges have you encountered in the preparation of your portfolio? How can the teacher help you?

At the beginning of preparing the pure art collection of the Royal Academy of Arts, I was confused about the whole process, so I spent a lot of time discussing and developing a work with my teacher. In addition to the project I am working on, I will also send some small pictures I usually draw to the teacher. I am greatly encouraged by the teacher, and I am very grateful.

I felt that the first project had the most problems, and because I had no experience, I was groping in many processes. Fortunately, the teacher's guidance gradually put me on the right track. After taking the time of a project to understand the whole process, I felt more confident. Therefore, in the subsequent works, the efficiency and integrity of the overall completion were improved.

Q: Have you ever participated in online or offline activities of natural light? What impressed you?

I have participated in online and offline activities. The more profound offline activity is to participate in a skill development activity of alginate gypsum mold turning. It's fun and learning in the whole process, which also opens a new way for your own creation. Online activities mainly involve participation in online live broadcast public classes. The live broadcast classes of natural light are rich and diverse, and sometimes there are lectures from foreign famous teachers. All of us at Amway strongly listen to them.

Q: Do you have any feelings about the whole application process that you want to share with the students who are preparing to apply?

First of all, after deciding to study abroad, it is better to do a good job of college research in advance to learn more about what the teachers and students of the colleges and universities they want to go to are doing and what the humanistic environment is like. When creating a collection of works, don't be afraid to start again. Once you realize the problem, you should immediately correct it, and don't fall into an unnecessary cycle. Communicate with teachers and classmates more, and you will learn a lot from chatting.

   About online class

As a student who teaches online all the time, Jiarong said that there is no difference between natural light and offline classes. The comprehensive teaching system and high-quality tutor team ensure the best effect of online teaching. Besides class time, the communication with art teachers and educational administration teachers is also very close, and there is no obstacle at all.

She suggested that students should prepare their own questions before participating in online classes, and send the homework to be shown to teachers in advance, so that teachers can have a better understanding of online classes, and the efficiency will be higher.

   Teacher has something to say

Jiarong is a student who often surprises people. We have talked about it since the first class. Every class time, the students are very well prepared. I mentioned artists, theory books or some materials that can be tried in class, and she is willing to spend time to study and timely feedback to me, which is very rare. In this process, we hit many sparks and helped her sort out her research direction slowly.

To a large extent, it can be said that Jiarong's attitude of active learning and enthusiasm for art helped her get the offer of pure art from RCA Royal Academy of Arts. I often emphasize that for students applying for pure art majors, the role of teachers should not be to educate, but to awaken. When students get the correct guidance and really understand how to do a good work, no matter how the school's application system changes, the impact on us is actually very small.
