In the MFA graduate degree program in film animation at Rochester Institute of Technology, students create unique live action, script, 2D, 3D or stop motion animation. Rochester Polytechnic School of Film and Animation has the most advanced facilities, including a full set of production facilities. The project is also supported by highly professional personnel in RIT photography, imaging science, computer science, information technology and design projects.
Rochester Institute of Technology The MFA of film animation design provides four options:
· The 2D animation set focuses on the traditional form of manual drawing, the mixture of tradition and digital, or all digital origin. Students can focus on learning stop motion puppet animation.
· The 3D Animation course focuses on advanced 3D modeling, lighting, texture, and animation in 3D space.
· Production allows students to develop and improve their creative methods of making fictional narratives, documentaries and experimental live action films.
· Screenwriters are opportunities for students to complete short films, focusing on creating scripts for feature films, short films and series lengths.
All four options require two years of course work and a thesis project. All first-year students need a complete film, a complete film or script in the second year, and a more ambitious thesis film or full-length script in the third year. In the third year, that is, the last year, students are admitted part-time, and their work is only focused on their thesis projects.
Elective Courses
Elective courses include animation, film, video, multimedia, screenwriting, printmaking, painting, sculpture, communication design, museum research, handicrafts, annotation, typesetting, color photography, new media, studio photography, advertising photography, perception, games, computer graphics, art history, and archive preservation and protection. There are also opportunities for independent study, internship and concentration.
Application requirements for MFA graduate students majoring in film and animation:
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from a recognized university or college.
Submit official transcripts (in English) of all previously completed undergraduate and graduate courses.
Submit an online portfolio showing the candidate's skills, visual complexity, and aesthetic awareness. (See Postgraduate Portfolio Requirements for more information.)
Submit a 2-3 minute online self portrait video.
Submit a personal statement on educational goals
Submit two letters of recommendation from academics or professionals.
International applicants whose native language is not English must submit TOEFL, IELTS or PTE scores. The minimum TOEFL score is 88 (Internet based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5 (balanced). For native speakers of English or those who submit transcripts of degrees obtained at US institutions, the requirement for English test scores is waived.

The Rochester Institute of Technology Review Committee is looking for work that is original in concept and content. It is not necessarily a sports media, but it should be visual or auditory. Examples include films/videos, photos, sketches, paintings, sculptures, stop motion animations, scripts, storyboards, and original music.
Applicants must submit what they think is the best job, not all of their jobs. The total time of the movie or video should not exceed 12 minutes. A short, complete work is preferable to a demo scroll. If there is no short work, then the 12 minute excerpts of longer works are acceptable.
Applicants must put the collection of professional works of film animation on a website or FTP website, such as Vimeo or YouTube, which can easily access RIT instructors for review. Application materials include online combined URL/Web or FTP addresses. Please ensure that the file name of the collection on the website contains your full name (this must be the same as the name used in the application materials). At the same time, the application materials include the user name and password required to access your movie animation collection. At the same time, a table of contents is provided. Please specify how your portfolio projects are grouped and collaborated. It can be described separately or included in the portfolio project presentation.
Applicants also need to record a two to three minute self portrait video on the Slideroom website, which requires clear sound and image quality.
