The University of Georgia offers undergraduate and graduate art history majors. Undergraduates majoring in art history at the University of Georgia gain extensive knowledge of visual art forms, spanning a wide range of media, culture and time cycles. The art history of the University of Georgia is essentially an interdisciplinary field, which has deepened our understanding and connection to human imagination and aspirations. Its method explores such issues as aesthetics, literature, philosophy, religion, economy and social and political structure, which are reflected in the near and far cultural arts. In an increasingly visual and creative world, students have developed keen, intellectual and practical skills to observe carefully, read critically, study deeply and write comprehensively. University of Georgia art history graduates continue to study art history, history, law and information science, and work in museums, galleries, auction houses, writing and publishing, teaching, public relations, fashion industry and community participation.


   University of Georgia Art History Minor


The minor course of art history requires 18 credits. Students must first complete the ARHI 2300 and ARHI 2400 before they can start the art history minor course and register for the 3000 level art history course. The ARHI 2300 meets the fourth part of the core curriculum, excluding the 18 hours required for minor courses. After the student has completed 6 hours (two courses) of Art History Class 3000 and obtained at least 3.0 total points in these four courses, she or he can officially announce the minor.


 University of Georgia Art History


For minor subjects, students must complete 15 hours (5 courses) of advanced art history. Nine hours (three courses) are required at level 3000 and must be in three of four different areas. Upon completion of these courses, students will receive permission to register for Level 4000 courses. It takes six hours (two courses) to complete the minor courses at level 4000. Even students who are declared minor need permission from the region to register at level 4000.


   Graduate Art History


There are nine teachers in the field of art history, whose majors range from classical antiques to contemporary visual culture. The field of art history is committed to training graduate students extensively, and developing important depth in the fields selected by students. For this reason, graduate level courses in art history are divided into small advanced lecture courses and intimate seminars on highly specialized topics. On the whole, these courses, together with the compulsory courses in history and methodology, aim to cultivate the professional skills required by the discipline of art history.
