  PORTFOLIO+SKETCH BOOK+OUTCOME

Needless to say, the materials to be prepared for the interview are very important! But often, it is the students who are most likely to make mistakes. In the on-site interview, you must remember that in addition to preparing the portfolio according to the interview requirements, you must carry SKETCH BOOK!!!

SKETCH BOOK is an important item to show the development process of the project for the interviewer, recording the whole process from inspiration to completion. It is also often the focus of the interviewer's investigation, and even directly affects the final admission results!

The individual students contacted by the natural light LONDON ignored the preparation of SKETCH BOOK because they were too busy preparing the work collection or were habitually lazy in the usual learning process. At the end of the interview, I even told the natural light LONDON that I had forgotten to bring it!!!???

At this last moment, LONDON, a natural light, gave the students a suggestion that they must prepare SKETCH BOOK in time according to the progress of the project. Your project inspiration should not only stay in the mind or be reflected in digital works, but should be put into practice and in writing.

Therefore, to say the least, if you don't have enough SKETCH BOOK in the end, you must work overtime to make up for it. Because in the interview, the interviewer's first impression of you will be greatly reduced because of insufficient preparation of materials. In addition, when you see other people's materials piled up in a hill shape, but you only have some works that are so thin, it is likely to produce frustration and increase tension!

The final OUTCOME is the core of the inspection work. It is recommended that students carry all of them as much as possible. If it is really difficult to carry large works, photos can also be used for display.

Language and mentality

Smooth+confident+professional

In the interview, the examiners will not be like the IELTS TOEFL oral test, as long as they can convey their ideas reasonably, it is feasible. Therefore, it is more important to think logically, speak confidently, and use the correct language related to the major.

As for the interview mentality, in the interview, nervousness is inevitable. But remember to keep calm and calm as much as possible, and the answers should be as concise and to the point as possible. Don't make lengthy statements because of tension and don't attach importance and respect because of too much relaxation.

Online interview

Form:

The online interview is usually in the form of Skype, which can be divided into video interview and telephone interview. Generally, schools will notify specific details of the interview in an email, and some schools' official websites also provide access to view the interview form.

Preliminary preparation:

As it is an online interview, to some extent, it reduces the tension and pressure of students. Therefore, it is suggested that students can print out the common topics and relevant expressions about the work collection in advance.

It is also suggested that students do some research on the interviewer and course module before the interview, for example, use Linkin to find the interviewer's resume. If possible, you can also search some videos of interviewers' speeches to adapt to pronunciation, speaking speed and speaking rhythm in advance. It is more convenient to delay tension and "suit the remedy to the case" during the interview.

Site and equipment:

Places not easily disturbed+simple and bright background

Smooth network (VPN)+sufficient power

Download software such as Skype in advance and get familiar with usage

As for dress, it is not necessary to wear formal clothes, but clean, tidy and casual

Restore the interview scene

Now, let's welcome Mr. L, who has won the BA Product and Furniture Design OFFER of Chelsea, to share his participation last Friday Central Saint Martin College of Art and Design BA (Hons) Product and Industrial Design interview experience!

First of all, congratulations on your victory over Chelsea's OFFER, and wish you can also win St. Martin! Why do you choose to apply for the major of Product Design, and what do you value most when you choose the school?

I think I like this major because I want to design something to make our life more convenient. Learning Product Design is my dream when I was young. I want to make some products that are helpful for our future life. If I choose a school, I will pay more attention to the knowledge that this school can teach me. Some schools may pay more attention to your thinking development. Some schools may pay more attention to the development of hands-on ability. I may be more inclined to the development of product functionality and thinking. Of course, hands-on ability is particularly important for you as a product design learner.

What is your greatest achievement in preparing your portfolio?

When I was preparing my portfolio, I really met many teachers who were very good to me. They gave me many ideas in guiding my portfolio that I could not know before. I am very grateful to these teachers. Secondly, I learned a lot about the use of software during my work collection, including the integrity of the whole work, which has been greatly improved. From the early research, I realized the problems I hadn't noticed before. During my work collection, I learned a lot from the teacher's reminding and help.

What is the biggest difficulty in preparing your portfolio? How to overcome it?

I didn't use software at first, and the school's deadline was given in a hurry, so I had to learn software little by little, which made me waste a lot of time than others. In the early stage, I changed the layout many times, but when I can skillfully use the software, I can quickly complete a layout. Because I prefer to do things with one hand, when I use the cutting machine to make a model, I always get a little hurt on my hand. But finally we made the model. Felt it was very good.

What is the interview process?

First of all, there is a reporting place on the first floor of the campus. After reporting his name, he will be led upstairs by the teacher. After going upstairs, all the students wait in one classroom, and then the teacher who receives them will queue up one by one according to the name and time to put the works into the interview classroom first. Next, after putting down all the works, the teachers will first look at the works for about 20 minutes, and then call someone in to talk about the collection of works one-on-one for about 15-20 minutes.

What questions were asked in the interview?

Why did you choose Saint Martin?

Which part of Saint Martin attracts you most?

Who is your favorite designer or artist?

What is your inspiration?

What is the biggest problem you encountered when designing this project?

What are your plans for the future development of this project?

How did you feel on the interview day?

During the interview that day, we should say that it is false not to be nervous. When we were waiting, we looked around at some more competitive foreigners, and we always wanted to be afraid of our unclear expression. At this time, I will listen to some songs that I am most familiar with to ease myself without affecting my play. But when I went in, I quickly adjusted my mentality to make myself in the best state.

What's your favorite London exhibition or event?

There are good exhibitions every week in London, so I'm not afraid of missing anything. But I personally think that Design Museum is my favorite art museum. As a learner of product design, I think I must go to this exhibition. This exhibition hall is all about product design. So when my own design encounters a bottleneck, I often go to the Design museum to find inspiration.

What suggestions do you have for students preparing to apply?

I think we should just calm down before the interview and do our best work collection. There are mountains outside the mountains and people outside the people. I can never compare with others. This collection of works is a breakthrough for me. I think that's enough.

In addition, I went to Chelsea's Open Day before that, when Chelsea Academy of Art and Design Our Course Leader gave us a lecture about the curriculum of Chelsea's product design. And she is also the interviewer of everyone in this interview. Seeing the familiar faces has greatly relieved my nervousness! On the whole, she is very nice and gives people a very friendly feeling.

Thank you very much for your sharing. It seems that in addition to the regular interview preparation, I really recommend you to visit the Open Day of the target university. Maybe you will be lucky enough to meet future interviewers!

Today, we shared the interview skills of art study abroad and the dry goods of online interview. Finally, whether online or offline, receiving the interview invitation from colleges and universities proves that students have successfully passed the first round of assessment, and also proves the strength of students to a certain extent. Therefore, I hope that students can face the interview calmly and win the offer of Dream School!
