Introduction to the interaction design major of Carnegie Mellon University:

It focuses on the interaction between people and the relationship between people and the designed world and nature. It involves product semantics, brand experience, multimedia, intelligent devices, urban roads, large-scale information systems and other contents. Designers can work in medical care, retail, telecommunications, transportation systems, food systems, environmental monitoring and other fields, These new fields have emerged in the past decade and provided a large number of new market opportunities for designers. The school's projects and courses in these fields often cooperate with enterprises and community/non-profit customers.

Three directions for CMU interaction design graduate students at Carnegie Mellon University:

The professional framework of interaction design at Carnegie Mellon University is divided into three directions: service design, social innovation design, and transition design.

 Interaction Design, Carnegie Mellon University

   1. Carnegie Mellon University Service Design

In the modern society, designers need to have a better way to manage, predict and design users' feelings for products and services, experience of using products and services, and reputation after use, which may be the meaning and purpose of interaction design. In the graduate stage, the service design direction of CMU focuses on studio projects, and there will also be seminar and various optional courses.

CMU has this explanation for service design: the solution of service design is based on the observation and interpretation of user behavior and needs in a specific environment. This type of observation and analysis is achieved by designing research and proposing solutions, visualizing service blueprints, models, maps and solutions. The service design solution aims to provide profit and welfare for service providers and provide useful and ideal services for users.

   2. Social Innovation Design of Carnegie Mellon University

Social innovative design refers to the design of new products, services, processes and policies that more effectively meet social needs than existing solutions. Social innovative solutions often use or amplify existing and available resources. In the graduate stage, CMU students will participate in a series of cooperation projects related to social organizations, governments and welfare institutions, also based on studios and research projects.

Social innovative design is a project that emphasizes the spirit of collaboration and cooperation. Students are required to design products that can really meet user needs from the perspective of user needs. From the perspective of exploring product functions, old products are given new functions and new uses, and new materials, new methods and technologies are tried from the perspective of cost design, Reduce product cost and improve product quality.

   3. Transitional Design of Carnegie Mellon University

Transition design is the transition from a traditional society to a sustainable future. The work undertaken by designers is similar to the transition design in service design and social innovation. Its goal is to establish a mutually supportive community system and a global network for sharing and exchanging knowledge, ideas, skills, technologies, cultures and resources.

In the process of learning transition design, students will study the dynamics of complex systems, the design of application tools and processes, so as to improve students' visual cognitive ability, ideation ability, design processes and product services.
