Studying abroad in art has never been a smooth road. In this process, some students persevered and realized their original dreams, but some students chose to give up for some reasons. When did you decide to give up studying abroad in the arts? We often care about the students who get the offer, but ignore the inspiration from "failure cases". Today we interviewed 10 former art students, some of whom are currently overseas, some of whom have started work or graduate school in China, and even some of whom have received the ideal offer but still choose to give up. What kind of experience and story made them make such a choice? What is the reference significance for us on the way?
Mr. Mou, currently working in a domestic brand design company, has received an offer of RCA interaction major!
Why did I give up studying abroad? Because my language was really poor, I was just working on my collection of works. To be honest, my collection of works made me very proud. I spent a lot of time and energy on many works at that time, and applied for multiple majors of RCA and LCC, and most of them were offered.
At that time, my language just met the requirements of RCA, so after I got the RCA offer, I spent more than half a year learning language, but it was too bad that I didn't learn English well since I was young. When I went to RCA Royal College of Art Later, I found that their students' excellence is really comprehensive, and my language is not enough to support me to continue learning.
The huge contrast between the collection of works and the language, coupled with the maladjustment just arrived in England, I really nearly collapsed at that time, so I chose to give up. Although I think about it now, sometimes I think it might be better to insist on it at that time... But the language really gives me a headache.
So I would like to share with all the students who are preparing to study abroad in art. Language is really important. If allowed, you must prepare your language!

Sun, a senior student in a university in China, once chose to apply for the major of fashion design.
I can't give up until later, eh I also blame myself for not thinking clearly. I haven't studied art, but I always like fashion and clothes. I want to go to the UK to study as a graduate student of fashion design for a year. I started preparing to apply for next year when I was in the summer vacation, but I can't do anything. I don't know where to start. Then I started to look for institutions and learn how to draw boards by hand, which wasted a lot of time.
Later, I accidentally saw the official website of LCF saying that the fashion management major does not require a collection of works. I was very happy. I thought that writing a paper should be easier, so I completely relaxed my mind to prepare for the IELTS test. Later, it seemed that there was only two or three months left. I found that those students who also applied for the fashion management major were doing collections of works, I realized that people who are more powerful than you are still working harder than you. I may not be able to do anything this year
So what I want now is to settle down well, first think about what I want to do, and then choose the next step. Let me also tell you this bloody lesson. Don't change direction and major temporarily!
Aaron, currently an art teacher in a middle school, was preparing to apply for the film art major.
I wanted to give up art study for countless times, but I was unwilling to give up, and it was too difficult to start again
I have been concerned about studying abroad in the arts for several years. Seeing that the requirements for applicants are getting higher and higher, and the competitive pressure is also growing, I have been hesitant to take a firm step.
At that time, I was ready to study abroad in my senior year, but my family did not support me and introduced me to my current job as a teacher. I thought it was a slow move, but I didn't expect that such a delay would last two or three years.
During this period, I also tried to prepare for several times, but either I suddenly had a task or I didn't think of a good specific topic. But this time, I firmly believe in studying abroad, and I will definitely not fight alone but find the most professional help to restart my life!
Hui, currently a freelance student, once applied for a postgraduate majoring in pure arts.
I may feel that I am not suitable for this road. My parents are both ceramic painters. I studied Chinese painting and calligraphy with them when I was young. Later, I took an art exam and went to Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts to study Chinese painting. My parents always hope that I can go abroad for further study, learn a little western painting style, and return to my hometown to work together with them in the future.
So I began to study art. Of course, there is no major in Chinese painting abroad. I applied for the exam of pure art. I thought that my basic skills were relatively solid, and the major of painting had no strong guiding significance, so I started to create in the studio.
Later, in my research, I found that the overseas pure arts are very different from my style in terms of thinking and techniques. I can't break away from my creative mode in the past decade to try this more innovative and comprehensive way. In contrast, I prefer to elaborate on traditional techniques.
Therefore, I decided to give up studying abroad and take a more suitable path.
Joseph, a student, is currently preparing a collection of professional British film works, and has received an offer of ACCD film.
I gave up because I found something more important in life to do. I came to the United States in high school and finished college in California. My major was film. It was natural for me to continue my postgraduate study. I also received an offer from ACCD.
But in the process of preparing my works, I got to know my current girlfriend, who is also one of my art students, but her target school is Huangyi. She chose to go to England. I still chose my girlfriend in front of offers and love.
Now, I have come to the UK to "accompany students" and the goal is to apply for LCC next year. Anyway, we have the strength to fear another year. In addition, the British graduate students themselves are one year less. This year, the PSW visa has been restarted. The form of employment is great. I am full of expectations for the future of both of us!

Chung, currently working in a design company in Beijing, has applied for Rhode Island industrial design.
I fell on the Rhode Island Initiative. I don't know why it was right Rhode Island School of Design Because of his obsession, he only applied to one college in Rhode Island. I majored in computer science as an undergraduate, and almost never learned painting. My collection of works is actually good. I used a lot of programming languages and experimental demonstrations to prove my works, but I don't think there is any lack of vision.
But the independent proposition is really impossible. I have heard about the independent proposition in Rhode Island for a long time, but I have never paid attention to it. When I really started to do it, I saw that three abstract keywords were put forward on the official website to let us spread our creativity.
I was blinded. I didn't have time to prepare my own topic for a long time at that time, and I didn't know how to draw by hand. I didn't have time to try other forms of creation. What's more, I had no choice but to give up my application last year.
It is said that the independent proposition of Rhode Island has changed again this year, becoming a reflection on a certain thing or phenomenon in the nature, and a second extension of the work. I also hope that students can learn my lesson, must pay attention to the independent proposition, and try not to be "too single-minded" to avoid hanging from a tree
Bill, currently a freelance student, has applied for the major of architecture.
I plan to do it early. I will prepare the language in three months, the collection of works in eight months, and the paperwork in one month. However, the plan is too rigid, especially how long it will take to make a collection of works.
At that time, I quit my job and reserved half a year to concentrate on preparing the collection of works. At the beginning, because I was not well adapted to the design process of the corresponding overseas universities, the progress of several early projects was very slow, so the time reserved for the last project was less than two months.
The last project I chose was the reconstruction of an old site in Guiyang, my hometown. The size is still large. I had great expectations, which can make up for the shortcomings of the previous projects.
But at that time, I didn't go to the field to study in order to catch up with the progress, so I started to work on the plan. Because I didn't have accurate data, I couldn't continue to push forward after half of the work, and then went back to supplement the research. Time was running out, so my mood collapsed and I abandoned the application of that year.
So to say, plans can't keep up with changes. Students who want to study abroad must prepare in advance, and do not skip the process in order to save time. There will be endless consequences
Ye, currently working in a design company, has applied for the graphic major.
My journey to study abroad began and ended quickly. As a professional, I began to think that the graphic works were relatively simple. PS could just draw a few pictures. I had only been working on my graduation portfolio for a month, and the results were good.
So I thought that 3 or 4 months of preparation for studying abroad was enough, and I didn't find a teacher. Later, I found that the collection of overseas art works was not the same thing as my undergraduate works. One month before the application, I didn't finish even one project. It would be useless to ask anyone for help again
Xiao, who is currently preparing, has applied for the interaction major.
I have always wanted to learn the interaction major, and I have prepared a lot of studies for this purpose. Later, I gave up because I had a senior who had prepared for a long time. Last year, I applied for the interaction major, and got nothing This also made me feel very panicked when I was going from zero to professional, so I didn't dare to try.
But there is always a reluctance. After all, the seeds have been planted in my heart for so long, so I began to research institutions and ask professional opinions. Later, I really learned that it is possible to interact with this comprehensive new major. In fact, it is not necessary for students to meet the requirements of this major
So now, after working for a while, I decided to go out to study. Now I am actively preparing!
Xia, currently from an architectural design institute in Shanghai, has chosen to apply for the SAIC photography major.
I majored in architecture as an undergraduate, and photography has always been my hobby. I had thought about finding a school to study systematically before, but I always think that the domestic crash course is to train people to work in wedding photography studios
After graduation, I have been working in a design institute in Shanghai. I deal with CAD, 3DMAX and other software every day. Photography has become my weekend pastime. Later, when a photo I took won a modest award, I suddenly realized that maybe I was really talented, so I decided to study abroad and find the best school!
My target school is SAIC, which is also because I prefer the style of commercialization. As for why I gave up later, it is realistic but I believe it is also a problem for many people. My family leader disagrees. They think that I am almost 30, have no girlfriend and have no savings, and have to spend so much money to study abroad, so they strongly oppose it
I gave up the idea of studying abroad temporarily under coercion and inducement. Why is it temporary? Since I have been preparing for studying abroad for nearly half a year, I am also admitted. The most important thing is to strengthen my love for photography. So I am now taking short-term classes at Tongji University while working. I want to say that I can learn more and save some tuition fees for myself, and try to persuade my parents to come back next year!

We often say that there are many reasons for failure, and the only reason for success is hard work+luck. Today we can also get some inspiration from these "failure cases": such as planning in advance, comprehensive research, valuing language achievements, seeking professional help, etc., but in the final analysis, we hope that students can think carefully before making any choice, Make the best plan for yourself!
Those who give up studying abroad are not only the above ten students. Maybe each of them has different reasons in the process of choosing to study abroad in the arts. They need to bear huge psychological and physiological pressure. As we share today, these 10 "failure cases of studying abroad in the arts", are they really failures? In fact, the problems they face are almost the problems that most art students, even large categories of international students, will encounter, either from their families or from themselves. In natural light, we meet all kinds of students every year. "Every student is a special case" is the basis for us to treat every day as before, and also the basis for our teaching.
