Yaozhong studied at Cardiff University As for the urban planning major, due to the curriculum of the school, he did not systematically learn design like domestic urban planning students. What's your unique experience?, What impact do these experiences have on your art study abroad?
Yaozhong:
I applied for a graduate student of urban design in Natural Light, with the background of graduating from Cardiff University in urban planning. Compared with other students, I probably didn't learn design as a domestic student of urban planning. At the same time, because I have been in the UK (except that I was in Chengdu for more than one month during the summer vacation when I just applied), So I can only teach with my Wencai teacher through online class all the time.

At the beginning, it was both a zero foundation training course and an online training course for overseas art works collection, which was a bit anxious. In addition, before signing up for natural light, I went to an organization near Chunxi Road in the city center for training for a period of time, but the results were always poor, and the classes were always online and offline. For this reason, I am worried about whether the new organization is really helpful. There will be a running in period at the beginning when the natural light comes, but after cooperating with Mr. Wen, especially after going to England later, I went online with Mr. Wen, and felt that the results have become better.
The teacher of Natural Light said: Yaozhong is a very typical successful case of online art overseas works training class. In fact, at the very beginning, many students were suspicious and distrustful when they first came into contact with online classes. What's more, before coming to the natural light, Yaozhong had failed in other institutions. At this time, it is difficult to build up students' trust in teachers.
In the example of Yaozhong and Teacher Wen, Teacher Wen accompanied the students through the initial running in period through patience, carefulness and good guidance. Yaozhong did not affect her cooperation with Teacher Wen because of her previous failure experience. How long have you been teaching in natural light? What is the course like?
Yaozhong:
I took a course for about 5 months. Although it was zero foundation at that time, I didn't take a basic course. But I want to say that Teacher Wen is really responsible. She found that I have zero foundation. Although she said that she had stayed in the previous organization for nearly half a year when signing up, she still added the basic course content that I lacked when teaching me.
The teacher of Natural Light said that the zero foundation of design can be regarded as the biggest obstacle for Yaozhong's graduate students to apply for the preparation of their portfolios. Based on time and previous experience, we did not arrange a separate basic course for him. But in the communication between Mr. Wen and Yaozhong, he still found this short board.

Under the condition of not affecting the progress of the work collection, and in coordination with the needs of Yaozhong's work collection, the teacher of literature went to the battle in person and arranged relevant software courses and homework exercises after class. Yaozhong also showed full trust and confidence in the teacher in this process, actively and timely completed each assignment, and timely communicated with the teacher for feedback.
In the end, Yaozhong completed the collection of works perfectly and also mastered solid design software skills, laying a good foundation for future graduate students.
Your portfolio contains a total of ⼏ items ⽬? Can you tell us something about these items?
Yaozhong:
I mainly do three projects. Because the time is very short, it is really not easy (face covering~). The first project is the old city renewal project led by Mr. Wen. The second is the project I did during my internship in Shenzhen and then basically changed. The third is the project stranded in the previous organization, which is about the establishment of a dog community.
Which item do you like best? Why?
Yaozhong:
In fact, I like every project. After all, it is my own output. For example, for the first project, the teacher Wen taught me how to do a city renewal project. The renderings and analysis drawings are original and beautiful.
Although the second Shenzhen internship project is a change project, it is only a new map based on the logic line of the original project, which is also very memorable. The third one was once stranded, but with the help of Mr. Wen, it was also improved perfectly. So for me, I like all three projects!

Do you think there is a difference between online classes and offline classes? Is there anything special to pay attention to in online class?
Yaozhong:
The reason for choosing online classes is the same as what I said before, because I can only take online art study collection training, except that I can take offline classes in Chengdu Natural Light about a month before I just signed up.
As for the difference between online classes and offline classes, I think there will be a little difference, but I think as long as the cooperation between students and teachers is good, it is not a problem. Teacher Wen has always used the screen sharing method with me. When she wants to show me something, she can directly draw or figure out. I can directly see Teacher Wen's demonstration on my computer, which is very effective.
However, one thing is that both students and teachers need to be patient. Sometimes, in order to be able to tell me what I want to express clearly, Mr. Wen even sacrificed the rest time to continue to help me. So sometimes, the class time has changed from 1.5 hours to 3.5 hours. He is very responsible!
The teacher of Natural Light said: in the description of Yaozhong, we can intuitively feel that with the efforts of the teacher of Natural Light, we can really achieve zero difference between online and offline teaching. Students' concerns about online classes generally focus on teaching methods and teachers' teaching attitudes.
But in terms of teaching methods, whether it is video connection or screen sharing, our technology can support the seamless connection between students and teachers in artistic conception and creative linkage, and even faster and more intuitive than offline teaching to communicate ideas with teachers in a timely manner.

The teacher's teaching attitude is the biggest advantage of natural light. Yaozhong:
I think the online art collection training course has improved the progress and quality of my collection! Online classes give me a lot of time to think for myself. Sometimes, after online classes, the teacher may directly give some pictures or ideas. In fact, you will become very dependent on the teacher, and in the end you will not know what you want. On the contrary, in online classes, you can spend more time thinking and understanding what the teacher wants to teach you.
In terms of difficulties, there are not too many difficulties. The main reason is that the display mentioned above cannot be carried out face to face, but it can be made up through screen sharing, at least for urban design majors.
The teacher of Natural Light said: What surprised us was that many students who had achieved excellent results through online teaching gave us feedback after the course ended, saying that online teaching was more advantageous than offline teaching in terms of communication convenience and creative diffusion of works collection. However, Yaozhong, who has experienced an unpleasant offline experience before, has more say in it.
Due to the convenience of network communication, online classes shorten the distance between teachers and students in time and space, and reduce a series of unnecessary time costs for offline classes. Moreover, compared with offline classes, which rely on face-to-face communication, students need to be more conscious and proactive, and also give students more space to play and imagine freely.
In the preparation of students' work collections, our teachers often play an auxiliary role, and we do not want students to rely on teachers excessively, thus losing more possibilities of self creation.

Now many students have to change their courses from offline to online due to the impact of the epidemic. Do you have any suggestions?
Yaozhong:
I think cooperation and patience are very important for online teaching. If you can run in well with the teacher, there is really no problem!
Have you ever participated in online/offline activities of natural light? What is the comprehensive feeling of the whole portfolio course?
Yaozhong:
Because of the distance, I have not participated in online/offline activities of natural light. But all the important teachers of the workshop educational administration at that time helped me record them and passed them to me. In fact, they were no different from those who participated in the workshop, which was very helpful!
But in natural light, it is too different from other places. In natural light, especially zero based students can really learn real knowledge from teachers. My former organization was quite the opposite. It would only give students some reference pictures to imitate or ask for sick leave without reason to skip classes, to make up for their teachers' shortcomings.
The teacher of Natural Light said that the success of an application for a collection of works cannot be separated from the seriousness and responsibility of the tutor, nor from the diligence of the students themselves. In the cooperation between Yaozhong and Wen, we can see how powerful the sparks are when teachers and students work together in the same direction.

Teacher Wen's conscientious and responsible attitude enabled Yaozhong to communicate and connect seamlessly with his tutor and high-quality natural light resources even though he was far away in the UK and even though there was an eight hour time difference. Our contribution to the production of Yaozhong's work collection and the application of graduate students has not been affected by time and space.
