The Department of Computer Science offers two undergraduate degrees, namely, Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Arts (BA), and a minor in computer science. Our graduate program degrees include Master of Science (MS), Master of Computer Science (MCS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). In addition to these degrees, we also have a computer engineering major jointly managed with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, offering undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees. Computer science is one of the most popular and highly paid majors at present. Computer science, computer engineering and other related majors are among the best in PayScale 2019 US Master's professional salary rankings. At the same time, the computer field in the United States is also a global leader in technology and industry.


Most schools in the United States have computer majors. This major is basically set up under the College of Engineering. The computer engineering and EE of most schools are combined, generally called ECE department or CEE. For example, the CS of MIT is under the EECS department. Some schools also have independent computer departments, such as CMU, which has independent School of Computer Science.

Computer engineering is an exciting field, covering the fields of electrical engineering and computer science. Students learn and practice the design and analysis of computer systems, including hardware and software aspects and their integration. The professions in the field of computer engineering are as wide and diverse as those in computer systems themselves, ranging from embedded computer systems found in consumer products, robots or medical equipment, to control systems for cars, aircraft and trains, to more extensive applications in telecommunications, financial transactions and information systems.


Electrical engineering is a rapidly developing field, including communication, image processing, microelectronics and control systems. New exciting fields are constantly developing, while more traditional fields are looking for new applications. Due to the rapid changes in this field, this course aims to provide strong preparation for traditional electrical engineering while providing maximum flexibility to adapt to students' interests and current technological development.
