Today, the natural light brings you a student who is an undergraduate studying at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and applying for a master's degree in product design in the UK. He has finally won the Royal College of Art, Central Saint Martins, Camberwell College of Arts, Loughborough University Coventry University and other schools offer. Now, let's talk about the student's Huangyi product design collection. With her meticulous mind and extended "big idea", she won the offer of product design majors from five British universities including RCA, CSM, Camberwell, Loughborough and Coventry.

"Move" the ingredients in the kitchen into the collection of works, and use the concept of daily necessities to fuse the products with temperature; To explore national culture and awaken people's attention to intangible cultural heritage with design; From 0, I learned to program, only to use product devices to inspire people to think about smoking; She is the object of our interview today: Zhiye. Take away, fitting room, diet, lifestyle... Her inspiration comes from her own life. She explores the meaning of products from the smallest details, and brings hot ideas through the interaction between products and people!

My first project, SEASONINGNEW MODE, is about the redesign of spices. First of all, I went to do social research and found that in today's society, few people, mainly low-income groups, would cook at home because of social work or living habits, and most people would choose the convenient and fast way of eating "order take out". At the same time, I also found that more and more people actually want to learn to cook. "Cooking" is no longer a need for most people to "fill their stomachs", but for novices, cooking is a very boring thing. So I classified and analyzed the texture of all spices, as well as people's use behavior and habits, and designed the product accordingly. In addition to functional design, each product is also combined with women's use habits for daily necessities. These features will affect the user's perception and experience of the product. In terms of appearance design, I chose the traditional appearance of seasoning bottle to keep the product simple and convenient. Through this design, I hope it can help us learn and experience cooking more quickly and interestingly, so as to solve the problem that we often eat out, or waste a lot of spices.

The second project, "SYMBIOSIS", is about the culture of Hui and Han people. Under the collision of the two cultures, a new product design has emerged. First of all, I come from Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. I find the geographical characteristics of Ningxia are very interesting and cultural; The second is the integration of the Hui and Han cultures in this area, which has produced many new cultural forms and also created a very unique regional culture. Therefore, I first studied the traditional handicraft "wool rolling felt" often used by the Hui people in Ningxia. At the same time, copper is also a very important material in the Hui culture, which is often used. I combined them with the silk elements commonly used by the Han people and designed a series of product designs such as handbags and fruit trays. I hope that my design can help the Han people reduce some misunderstandings about the Hui people. Secondly, I also hope to improve the quality of life of ethnic minorities. While carrying forward the traditional intangible cultural heritage, it can also extend the traditional culture into the modern society.

My third project, LOOK AT YOURUNGS, discussed the topic of "smoking". In this project, I used some methods not used in other projects to solve smoking related problems. I used a smoke detector to detect the smoke content in the air and convert it into specific values. According to the different smoke content in the air, my products will react differently. For example, when the smoke content in the air is low, my product will light up the blue LED light, and at the same time, it will also emit some red smoke. But if the smoke content in the air is high, my product will emit black smoke and light up a red warning light. Whether the smoke content is low or high, the smoke will be directly sprayed on a piece of paper in the shape of a lung. About a week later, we collected these pieces of paper and posted them to serve as a warning. I hope to tell people the harm of smoking through this project, so as to reduce our smoking.

Before this project, I didn't actually learn programming, but because of the project needs, I must master the skills of programming. I am very grateful to the teacher for taking me to understand programming in this project and finally realizing the product.

Q: Which project in the product design portfolio is more difficult for you to carry out?

I think the last item in Huangyi's product design portfolio is more difficult. Although it is the last item, this is actually my first item in natural light.

Preparing this Portfolio training At the time of the project, I had just started to prepare for studying abroad in art. At that time, the time was very tight. I didn't know how to start or what kind of work I needed to do. However, the teacher did not reduce the teaching and curriculum because of my time constraints, nor did he lower the requirements for me, which is still relatively high. So I have been communicating with the teacher repeatedly and making changes all the time. Because there are many ideas, many details and designs cannot be determined quickly. It is very painful when I do it. But at this time, the teacher has been accompanying me, thinking with me, then trying and changing with me, and also gave me a lot of very critical suggestions.

Q: Do you think there is any different feeling in natural light class?

Because I studied in the Academy of Fine Arts as an undergraduate, the teaching mode of the Academy of Fine Arts is also relatively overseas, that is, it is in the studio environment as a whole, but the teachers will also provide one-on-one guidance and teaching for individuals.

My feeling in the natural light class is that the atmosphere is very overseas, which is similar to the Academy of Fine Arts, so I don't think I'm very uncomfortable with the teaching method of natural light. My Huangyi product design collection class also started smoothly. At the beginning, my communication with the teacher was smooth, and the later collection was also very smooth.

One thing I feel deeply is that every teacher here is very conscientious and responsible, and sometimes he often asks me late how my plan is going and whether he needs help. Every teacher has given me great confidence. Even though this teacher may not be my professional teacher, every teacher will give me advice and direction seriously and responsibly whenever I ask for help.

The teacher's teaching methods and guidance have inspired me a lot, and also let me have the faith to go on more firmly. Thank you very much for your help here.

Q: What is the most inspiring/helpful thing for professional teachers?

I'm usually easy to get tangled. When I'm working on a collection of works, I often have many ideas, whether good or ordinary, and sometimes I can't go on with it.

The teacher will help me as much as possible in teaching, use his own experience to help me quickly enter the state, with my rhythmic thinking. When we are faced with many ideas at the same time, the teacher will help me to screen them, for example, to have more in-depth discussions with me, or to carry out some quick simple experiments and scheme prediction, so as to screen out those general schemes.

At the same time, the teacher not only helps me to screen out the programs with ordinary degree of realization, but also helps me find many directions that can be further deepened. Give me a lot of inspiration, so that I can have a deeper thinking on the scheme.

On the other hand, I think what the teacher has helped me a lot is that I am usually a person with slight procrastination, that is, I am a little tardy in doing my homework. The teacher will urge me in time to follow up my status at any time. As I said earlier, sometimes it may be too late, and the teacher will still reply to my message and guide me to finish the homework at that time.

Generally, if I have problems or need help outside the classroom, such as self-study, the teacher will also respond to me actively and help me solve them at the first time.

Therefore, the teacher was very good at controlling my time. Although it was a bit late for me to start the collection, the progress was always fast, without interruption or delay. At about the end of November, including typesetting, I completed all the design works of Huangyi products.

In the natural light, I think that both professional teachers and academic administration teachers have always paid close attention to my learning progress and status. At the same time, I personally feel that this tense and fast rhythm has played a very positive role for me.

This kind of rhythm enables me to stay in a coherent and relatively continuous mood, and can stay in a high-quality learning state for a long time, without relaxation or interruption, so that I can keep stable creation at one go.

Q: Do you have any suggestions for younger students who want to apply for Huangyi Product Design in the future?

My advice is:

First of all, when making a collection of works, we can consider several directions. Don't worry that the teacher will raise questions, and don't worry that the teacher will deny this idea. It is because of the teacher's rich experience that he/she can think deeper than you and help you.

If you want to start making a collection of works, you must first dare to put forward your own ideas and let the teacher know your ideas, so that the teacher can better understand your ideas and know how to help you.

For example, in some projects, the research direction of materials may be preferred; In some projects, it is about finding and solving problems; For another example, some are the extension of concepts.

Spread your ideas more, try new paths, think more, and discuss more with teachers. And try to implement them more. Don't be afraid to encounter new skills that you won't or haven't touched in the process. If you want to create, it is inevitable to encounter something that you cannot do, but you must learn to solve problems when you encounter it, so that you can really learn. It is precisely in this way that we can better demonstrate our various abilities.

Before I made my portfolio, I had never been exposed to programming. It was also because of the needs of the work that I started this field from scratch. My teacher helped me a lot, so that I finally learned to program and realized my ideas with programming.

In addition, if time permits, you must do as much as possible to turn your ideas into real objects. The process of making the real object is the process of product landing. At this time, you may find that the right structure and material you thought before, once the real object is made, there will be problems immediately.

There is a gap between the idea and the real object, which is very common in product design. Therefore, in order to avoid deviation, I particularly recommend that you make the real object, so that you can find problems and correct them in time.

Finally, I know that when you are creating a collection of works, you must often doubt life. At this time, you can put it aside first, go out to play and have a rest. Maybe you will have a good idea and a good mood. In fact, the collection of works is very easy, so we should not have too much psychological burden. I hope everyone can apply for their own dream school.
