The animation major of UCLA University of California Los Angeles only provides master's degree, which is set up in School of Theater, Film and Television (TFT). This major was founded by former Disney animator William Shull in 1948, and has a history of half a century. Since its inception, the animation major has always taken "one person, one film." as the core concept of education, which means that students are expected to achieve a balance between technology and creativity, and develop comprehensive abilities at the same time.

The number of students enrolled in Animation MFA is very small, but there is no rigid requirement for students' artistic background. Some students are from arts or film majors, while others are from different majors such as literature, psychology, engineering, etc.
