Otis College of Art and Design accepts applications for the autumn and spring semesters of undergraduate and graduate students. Due to limited space, the admission time starts to roll after the priority deadline. The deadline for graduate and undergraduate applications is different, and the requirements for portfolios are also different. Undergraduate applications are accepted for the fall and spring semesters. Due to limited space, the admission time starts to roll after the priority deadline.

Early action deadline: December 1*

Priority deadline: February 15 (rolling admission later)

*Early action applicants who submit their applications and all materials before December 1 will obtain early decisions and early economic assistance funding estimates before mid January (need to submit FAFSA).

   Spring semester enrollment


Students can enter the architecture/landscape/interior "Jump Start" program as a preparatory course in the first semester, a sophomore course in the second semester or a sophomore course in the first semester


        Specific application conditions for undergraduates


Application opening: August 1

Priority deadline: November 1 (rolling admission later)


1. Application fee: $50 application fee - this fee is non refundable and can be paid online when the application is submitted.


2. Personal statement - describe your background and interest in art and design learning in at least 500 words. Your statement should be submitted together with the Common App as a supplement to your writing; This is not an ordinary application article.

For new applicants, Otis College of Art and Design There are two options to meet the requirements of the BFA portfolio:


Open portfolio: 10-20 images of your best and latest works in any media. Applicants whose works are based on digital or picture/video should include five examples of works in other media. Encourage students to observe directly.


Structured Portfolio Project:


In your collection of works, please add works according to the following tips. These works can be completed in any medium, such as photography, collage, painting, painting, 3D works, etc. At least 3 images should be produced using traditional (non digital) media.


3 images: instead of displaying the faces of actual people, create 3 images and use them as "portraits" of 3 people. For example, you might consider using objects, spaces, and textures. How do you represent someone without appearing? Please mark the work with "Portrait" and other titles you think appropriate.


4 images: Use 4 images to tell a story about an event or moment in your life or your own personal narrative. Is there an event in your life that affects everything that happens afterwards? Do you remember that you learned something that you never forgot? Please add the label of "Personal Narration" and other titles you think appropriate.


3 pictures: Create 3 pictures to show what is important to you. These may be internal spaces, the exterior of buildings, landscapes, urban landscapes or any theme that meets your important conditions. Be creative in explaining the environment, mood and experience in space. Please mark "Place" on these labels and other titles as you think fit.


In addition to these 10 pictures, you are also welcome to add any other works labeled as "personal works".


For transfer applicants, Otis College of Art and Design encourages applicants to submit jobs that are suitable for their application level and specialty. The "Open Portfolio" option is most suitable for most transfer applicants, but the "Structured Portfolio" can also be used for students who want to enroll in basic or sophomore courses. Students seeking admission at the junior high level need advanced, specialized portfolios.


4. Transcript: International students must submit the official translation of non English transcripts. Please provide both translation and official transcript.


5. Language score:


International applicants whose primary/native language is not English should take one of the three tests recognized by Otis College: TOEFL, IELTS or Pearson English Test (SAT/ACT scores are not required). The minimum score required for BFA admission is TOEFL ibt 79, IELTS 6.5, Pearson English 58 or Duolingo English 105.

MFA Graphic Design Applicant: Please describe the way you want to promote your work through graduate study at Otis College.


MFA Art/Art+Social Practice Focus: Please submit an artist statement.

Graduate art, art+social practice, graphic design:


15-20 images, including the name, approximate size, media, date and file type of each work (such as jpeg, tiff, gif, mov, mpg). adopt Your portfolio.


7. Letter of recommendation (optional) - You can submit up to three letters of recommendation through the online application, but this is optional.


The admission requirements of the graduate program of Otis College of Arts and Design aim to make the admitted students have a high probability of success in academic and studio work. The technical ability in the concentrated field is the main factor in the admission process. Must have completed a recognised BFA, BA or BS degree. For fine arts, it is best for students to have a degree in art or related fields, but all applicants with previous bachelor's degrees will be considered for admission.
