Is Huangyi's interview difficult? Getting the interview notice from the Royal College of Arts means that our collection of works has been preliminarily approved, but in order to obtain good application results, we need to take the initiative to consider many factors in the interview process, including some "hidden money" - additional test. Huangyi has officially sent the first round of interview invitation for application since December 9. At present, some students have received the invitation for interview in natural light. In order to help students better face the last battle of the application process, today we are going to give you the interview strategy of British Royal Art based on the past successful experience and the new changes this year, and make the most targeted preparation!

   Interview invitation

this year, Royal College of Art The interview invitation for the first round of application has been issued since the beginning of December and will last until December 20; The interview invitation for the second round of application results will be issued in March, so the quick witted students may have received an email inviting them to participate in the interview of British Huangyi, and those who have not received it may also be on their way.

The invitation process will first be sent by the college to inform you that you will be invited to the interview. In the email, we will need to reply to the form and specific time of the interview. The interview forms are divided into offline on-site interview and online interview. The appointment time is as soon as possible. Generally speaking, the time from receiving the email to the interview will not exceed 3 days.

Considering the time and economic costs, most students in China will choose the online form, that is, Skype video. After we reply to the email, colleges and universities will also give feedback in a short time. If we encounter weekends or holidays, email feedback may not be so timely, and students need not worry, they can make full use of time to actively prepare, If the waiting time is too long, we can also send an email or call the school directly to reconfirm.

For the preparation work during this period, students can focus on the following three items:

1. Be familiar with the interview process and operation tools of Royal Art;

2. Keep in mind your portfolio projects and documents, and make language planning and text sorting for highlights;

3. Learn more about the background, major, major events of the applicant institution and the interview of the admissions officer (it will be introduced in the email).

Later, this email from the college will be very critical. In addition to confirming the specific time and explaining some precautions for Skype interview, the most important interview questions will also be officially announced.

   Interview questions

The British Royal Art interview will set different assessment forms according to different application majors, which can be roughly divided into two directions: for most MA degrees (such as MA Painting/Chunyi, MA Photography/Photography, MA Textiles, etc.), in addition to routine questions and answers, there will also be a proposition presentation during the interview, and the subject and content will be announced in the email.

The other direction is Innovation Design Engineering (IDE)/Innovative Design Engineering, and Global Innovation Design (GID)/Global Innovative Design will also face a specific interview challenge.

This examination question will be sent to the applicant's mailbox one hour before the interview. Students have only one hour to prepare, submit the work results before the interview officially begins, and make a specific explanation of the work during the interview.

The reason why this question is called a challenge is also a big problem for students. The examination questions are different every year, which is generally a relatively open topic. Taking the 2019 application quarterly examination questions as an example, the theme of the work is Domestic Life in the Circular Economy/Family Life in the Circular Economy. The background of the event is the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP24) held in Poland in 2018.

 Huangyi Interview Questions

The examination requires applicants to design three novel conceptual houses or scenarios in the context of the continuous development of sustainable economy in 2030, and describe in detail the new technologies, materials and design principles used in the design results.

 Huangyi Interview Questions

The exam lasts for one hour, and there is no limit to the form of expression (including text description). Students can use the materials at hand to create according to different ways of expression. The final design results are presented in 1-2 pages of A4 paper. During the interview, students have 2 minutes to describe the work in language. The results of the work will also directly affect the interview results of applicants.

This form of assessment requires applicants to produce high-quality works in a short period of time, which is a very severe test for students' comprehensive ability, professional accumulation and timely thinking ability in the face of unexpected requirements.

When facing the examination questions at this stage, it is very unlikely that students want to improve their overall professional ability in a short period of time or choose the right topic. Therefore, our preparatory work mainly focuses on grasping the key points and effectively "lightning protection":

1. Rectify the mentality and avoid the influence of too nervous mentality;

2. Divergence of thinking around the key points of the applied specialty;

3. Effectively use the tools around you, including any daily necessities;

4. The concept is more important than the finished product, and it is unnecessary to excessively pursue the perfect visual effect of the work;

5. They can consciously connect with their own portfolio projects or research directions to expand the dimensions of their works;

6. Allow at least 5-10 minutes to prepare the written explanation, and take care of the interview process for 2 minutes to explain clearly and have something to say;

   Interview process

The next step is the key interview process of British Huangyi. The whole process usually lasts 10-20 minutes. Of course, if we have a good talk, the time will also lengthen accordingly. Last year, one of our classmates was very interested in the work of the admissions officer. The interview lasted 40 minutes and got an oral offer on the spot.

There are 2-3 interviewers for Huangyi. In addition to professional teachers, there may also be a student representative (for IED and GID majors). Before the interview starts, the interviewer will ask you "Are you ready" in words, and after getting your confirmation, they will actively invite you to video.

After a brief self introduction, the first link is about Creative Exercise. Applicants of MA degree major answer their own presentation, which lasts 3-5 minutes, and then enter the question and answer session.

The specific questions vary according to the interview teacher's interests, but generally they will focus on three directions: portfolio project, application reason and future planning. Students can prepare in advance accordingly.

Next, let's summarize the precautions in the interview process of British Royal Art:

1. Prepare a quiet and familiar interview environment with a stable network;

2. Get familiar with Skype operation mode in advance, and you can conduct video drills with teachers or friends in advance;

3. Keeping a correct attitude, self-confidence and politeness are the keys to obtaining impression scores;

4. The standard level of spoken English is not the key point of assessment, but the premise is to ensure clarity and fluency as far as possible;

5. Prepare some questions that can be asked to colleges and universities (try to be academic);

In addition, if the students encounter unexpected situations during the interview, such as the interviewer being late, suddenly cutting off the Internet, and failing to understand the questions, first of all, you must stabilize your mind, do not give up easily, and take the initiative to contact the interviewer to try to connect again; For a question that we don't know how to answer for a while, if we don't understand it, we can ask the admissions officer to repeat it. If it is a question of language, we can try to understand and explain it from our own perspective, but try not to recite the script or answer the question inappropriately.

If you really feel that you are not in a good state or there are some objective factors that cannot be solved in a short time, you can try to send an email to Argue to apply for another interview. If you are lucky, you can be accepted.

At the end of the whole process, the interview results will also be notified to everyone by email in a short time (the first batch of applications of Huangyi this year will be issued after January 9, and the second round will be issued after March 19).

Recently, we have often received inquiries from students about interview questions. Among them, the British Royal Art Interview is the first one. During the interview, schools with other assessment items are the types of students who are most concerned and worried about.

Is Huangyi's interview difficult? Today, we introduced the interview strategy of British Huangyi, and made a specific analysis of the interview process and response measures of Huangyi. We also hope to help you comprehensively solve the confusion, reduce the uncontrollable factors as much as possible before the final inspection, grasp the present, and try to prepare! I don't believe we need to elaborate too much on the importance of interview. According to statistics, the elimination rate of Huangyi's annual interview has exceeded 20%. For most of our domestic students, interview skills are also the teaching focus that Natural Light has always adhered to when their expressiveness and language are not dominant. Whether it is the teaching and research team review for each student at least 4 times throughout the preparation process of the portfolio, or the continuous 1v1 simulated interview with the admissions officer at the later stage of the application, we have truly achieved that the admissions officer and overseas professors control the overall situation in the teaching process, directly guarantee the application results of students, so that students can have a clear idea of the final stage of success!
