Huilan Pagoda, as a cultural resort and historical lighthouse in Qionglai, has been built and restored since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, spanning more than 300 years of Chinese history, and is characterized by simple shapes and complicated details of Ming and Qing buildings. In the process of continuous construction, the whole tower reflects the growth of the city and complements the ancient city of Linqiong.

01/Theme: Urban organic growth

Lefebvre believes that urban space has its unique vitality, which he calls "social production of space". And this concept, which was born nearly 50 years ago, is just a twig of the big tree of "urban growth". How should cities grow?

With the accelerated development of urbanization, in the process of continuous growth and evolution of cities, we need to constantly review urban design and constantly improve our self-awareness. The city is not only a cold steel jungle, but also a living "person". We respect natural ecology and inherit historical context. In the future, Huilanta area will become the city spirit of Qionglai City and jointly promote the "organic growth" of the city.

02/Description of project location

Huilan Pagoda, also known as Zhenjiang Pagoda, is a cultural relics protection unit in Sichuan Province. It is located 4km southeast of Qionglai City and on the bank of the beautiful Danan River in Baolin Township. The tower is a thirteen level hexagonal pavilion style brick tower with a total height of 75.48 meters, ranking the third highest brick tower in China. It is the highest ancient tower in Sichuan Province and the only one in Chengdu that is open to the outside world.

With its unique history and culture, the Huilan Pagoda area of Linqiong Ancient City has built a vivid urban memory and rich cultural heritage, forming a modern fashion on the north bank, a natural ecological environment on the south bank, and a rich culture on Huilan Island.

The competition starts from Chang'an Avenue in the west and ends at Wubanqiao Road in the east; It starts from Fenghuang Avenue Road in the north and ends at the south bank of Nanhe River in the south. The overall conceptual planning area is 5.88 square kilometers. The core area is Huilan Island and the north bank area, covering an area of about 2.47 square kilometers. The south bank area covers an area of 3.41 square kilometers.

Professional firms, design teams and individuals oriented to global urban planning, landscape design and other directions are invited to conduct conceptual planning scheme design.
