As the top ranked university in QS World University Ranking, UAL London University of Arts deserves its name. It is a famous seven ethics schools. Each of them has different characteristics and focuses on different collections of works. The collection of works that can be favored by both colleges and universities is worth learning from; Today, we are honored to invite Chloe Liepa, a BA Textiles student at the UAL-CHELSEA College, to apply for studying in the textile fabric major in the UK. His collection of works has won offers from different schools of the United Artistic UAL, namely, the Chelsea Academy of Arts and the Central Saint Martin School of Art and Design, Chloe Liepa I would like to share with us the details of the application approved by the two colleges, and show us the collection of works submitted for the application of BA Textiles in St. Martin. In addition, as an international student from the United States, Chloe Liepa hopes that her application experience can help more people understand the whole application details.
Interview introduction for applying for studying abroad in the UK textile fabric major:
Q: Are there any differences in the enrollment procedures between the two universities?
Chloe Liepa: The enrollment procedures of the two schools are very different. Chelsea is my direct application, and then invited for an interview. The interview was one-on-one, so I was able to discuss the intention and direction of my work, the creation process of each work, as well as my strengths and weaknesses with the person in charge. There is a lot of information in the whole process, you will get a lot of feedback, and they can make a decision to admit me in the interview.
Central St Martins You need to send ten photos. I need to make a choice, choose my best works - the ones that are better in the creation process and results - and then use ps to make ten slides and send them to me. After that, they invited me for an interview. There are about 35 people and I in the interview. I need to put down my work and return to the interview place in three hours. In the next stage, we will distinguish which ones are accepted or not. Then they will give you comments.
Q: What's the difference between the two schools in the interview?
Chloe Liepa: Saint Martin basically has no interview. He will give you an evaluation after he accepts you. Chelsea means that you will have the right to speak in the process and get the admission result after receiving feedback. For the application of Saint Martin, the portfolio is very important, because it must be able to speak for itself. This is the biggest difference.
Many of Chelsea's interview questions were about my research. How do I create and look at things? They attached great importance to my design process, because the design process will include many artistic perspectives, references, and many photo records. These constitute my final work.
Q: What is the most special place for you in these two schools?
Chloe Liepa: I'm interviewing Chelsea College of Art and Design I also talked about my impression of my works. Ask me why I applied to this school. This is a very interesting school, because every applicant is very different, and the interviewer wants to know your (as an individual) preferences and what you can convey in the creation.
Saint Martin is also very interesting. I got a comment that my collection of works is not fashionable enough. Each different program will have different requirements for the fashion level of the textile fabric professional works collection. You need to understand this program specifically before applying and use appropriate expression methods. Some need to look like fashion, while others need you to deliberately de ashion it.
Exhibition of textile fabric works
(The following content comes from student interviews)
project 1:finger print and shape

This project adopts the way of coloring fingers, and applies the color on fingers to all parts of the body. Finally, it takes this process as the inspiration, and forms the final design with the body (processed) image.
This work uses human body parts as a medium, which is both a brush and a drawing board. It shows the passion for color and the pursuit of texture and materials. The way of expression is also very creative.
Project 2:Platform at the London Overground
The second project is inspired by the patterns on the subway seats. The first part shows the process of the author's research, and the second part shows the patterns abstracted into a color group with orange as the background. The last picture shows the status of passengers in the subway in an abstract form, and the top view shows the status of 12 passengers sitting against the window.
The daily element of subway seats is purified and artistically magnified, refining the color relationship between seats and people, and showing the difference between seats as slow life elements and contemporary people on chairs. It is concise and reflects the understanding of contemporary background and ideas.
Project 3:Stress Marks
Inspiration originated from the fact that students accidentally left many scratches on their bodies when taking a bath, and found inspiration from the combination of the barbed wire and the scratches on their bodies. She believed that the barbed wire divided two worlds, thus separating people inside and outside the barbed wire. Therefore, the author made some design analysis (above figure).

There are three design samples of Stress Marks. The first is designed with different fabrics, the second is drawn with a marker pen, and the third sample is drawn with watercolor. Your work does not need to be completely completed, but you need to show your design ideas, which is very important for this degree.
In this professional work of textile fabrics, students pay attention to different material elements to paint, and also extract the elements of daily life and add their own feelings. At the same time, they dig deeper into the connotation of the work, and show the sense of isolation and interaction from simple paintings.
Next are two independent projects
First of all, this work is to show my knitting skills. The third yellow work returns to the marker technique, and the whole work is completed by marker.
This is a work showing my painting skills. I painted such a character image, scanned it, and continued to use PS for further processing. It is very important to show different skills in your work collection.
I found this newspaper on the subway, and I want to convey my ideas through this work. In this work, I used some software to design. The school will like your ability to pay attention to current affairs. Because I designed a current affairs topic in this work, and I wrote down the public's views on this topic.
