Carnegie Mellon University, or CMU for short, is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is a world renowned private top research university. It has the top computer college and drama college in the United States. Its art school, business school, engineering school and public management school are also among the best in the United States. The school was founded in 1900 by Andrew Carnegie, an industrialist and philanthropist. It was called Carnegie Technical School at that time. At the beginning of its establishment, the educational goal was to "provide good vocational training for the working class children in Pittsburgh". In 1912, it was renamed Carnegie Institute of Technology, and began to transform into a key American university focusing on research.

Carnegie Mellon University has campuses in Pittsburgh, Qatar and Silicon Valley, and degree awarding programs are all over the world, including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and Latin America.

Carnegie Mellon University In pursuit of "innovation and inspiration", the university has always been the leading university. Its world-class liberal arts and technology projects, interdisciplinary cooperation and innovative leadership in education have all made it recognized.

Carnegie Mellon University aims to cultivate students who have a lasting influence on society. It will give students the opportunity to make their own choices and change the world. As for the Carnegie Mellon University School of Arts, it is one of the four earliest colleges established by Carnegie Mellon University. The college gathers well-known artists and art professionals at home and abroad. It is composed of five unique departments, namely, architecture department, art department, design department, drama department and music department, as well as related centers and projects. The interaction design of Carnegie Mellon University has always ranked first in the United States!

Carnegie Mellon University CMU has so many departments:

 Carnegie Mellon University Arts

Well, at a glance, we can see that today's focus is the College of Fine Arts. Haha, Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Pure Arts majors are all here:

 Carnegie Mellon University Pure Art

Carnegie Mellon University CMU Architectural Design has a three-year undergraduate degree. Although the department of study is Fine Art, it is safe to rest assured that the diploma is a serious B Arch, the first year is Foundation. The first semester of Foundation year is mainly about basic theory and production. I will show you the syllabus of the first semester:

Specific goals of the first year design studio are:

to work fluidly between media, tools, methods, and modes of learning

to understand the fundamentals of space making and definition

to make connections between courses(knowledge domains)

to set the basis for an interdisciplinary/broad/liberal education

That means there are four key objectives: Proficient use of media and understanding of the basic concept of space are the requirements of the professional part. In addition, it is also necessary to understand the communication between disciplines and accept multicultural education.

Carnegie Mellon University courses are all in the form of Studio

Then Studio consists of five parts:

  -studio component:drawing

According to the course Syllabus, we should learn to draw in the first eight weeks, mainly by hand

  —studio component:sketchbook

At the end of the term, a sketchbook must be completed and included in the grade. CMU architecture attaches great importance to this part, hoping that critical thought and experience can be displayed in this form.

  —studio component:lectures

Carnegie Mellon University theory course, cliche, basic architectural terminology, academic ability.

  —studio component:shop sessions

This part is interesting. CMU has a cooperative relationship with some building materials suppliers, which will allow students to actually contact various building materials.

  —studio component:readings

Is to read relevant literature

 Carnegie Mellon University Pure Art

Carnegie Mellon University courses and tutors are as follows:

Drawing and Perceiving by Douglas Cooper

Experiencing Architecture by Steen Eiler Rasmussen

  Architectural Graphics by Francis D.K.Ching

  Architectural Drawing by Dernie,David

I plan to write about CMU buildings on a Friday, because the above information is from the first semester of the first year, which means I have five semesters left to write But considering that there are still four majors today, it is too long to write all of them. We will come to write about CMU architecture on Friday. Do you agree?

ART

Carnegie Mellon University Pure Art

The CMU of Carnegie Mellon University has a four-year bachelor's degree and a three-year master's degree. They graduated from BFA and MFA respectively. And the program is a vehicle to explore these dualities

Culture/nature: culture and nature

Tradition/experiment: tradition and experiment

High technology/low technology: new and old technologies

Private/public: private and public

Global/local: globalization and regionalization

Diversity/focus: diversity and specificity

Then the courses are in these forms:

 Carnegie Mellon University Pure Art

Carnegie Mellon University's pure art major has an independent Studio Practice. Please note that there is Concept Studio, a kind of non hands-on written learning, in which we study art ideas together. Let's say something funny. CMU's pure art has a particularly attractive one. They have two courses in black and white photography! Black&White Photography I and Black&White Photography II. I think they are very special, because the pure arts mentioned before are photography courses, and they are not classified as fine as CMU.

The curriculum is a PDF file, which takes up too much space. You can download it on the official website if you want.

The CMU of Carnegie Mellon University is designed with a bachelor's degree, a master's degree and a doctor's degree, which is amazing. In the undergraduate stage, there are three directions:

  products

  communications

  environments

Products refers to product design. CMU's concept in this direction is: no product exists in isolation it is always part of a larger system compared of people, communications and environments. With the support of this concept, the product design of CMU encourages students to go deep into life and do interesting design within their power.

Communications is to teach people how to use Verbal's language expression, visual information, and various auxiliary means to effectively improve communication efficiency, Areas of study include narrative and storytelling, information design, and a variety of analysis and digital visualization techniques.

Environments include not only the real environment but also the network environment, Students learn to design for complex environments that exist in the digital, physical and multi-modal realms. CMU regards the environment as a flowing and dynamic system, which is their idea, so students are encouraged to measure the environment with dynamic thinking.
