What is interaction design? In recent years, with the overwhelming force of the Internet, anyone you meet is doing the Internet, talking about user experience and interaction design. Interaction design seems to be ambiguous with the Internet, but what is interaction design?

      What is interaction design?

In fact, I don't have an answer to this question. I remember that there was once an IxDA conference where many experts in this field shared their understanding of the art study abroad interaction design. Although there was no final conclusion, I think this is the vitality of this discipline, which will always be left to later people to interpret and supplement. There is no final explanation. I will start with a few suggestions, Write about my understanding of interaction design. The views are not original. Many of them are pieced together by myself after reading Daniel's books and listening to Daniel's lectures.

      What are the areas of interaction design?

First of all, I'd like to invite Richard Buchanan, the first big bull. I think many people in the industry are not unfamiliar with this name. Although we have only met several times, his thoughts have had a very, very profound impact on my current way of thinking. In an article Wicked Problem in Design Thinking, he mentioned four design fields, namely:

Symbolic and visual communication (can be simply understood as the design of traditional plane media);

Material objects (can simply understand such disciplines as industrial design, and mainly design for objects);

Activities and organized services (can be simply understood as interaction design, which mainly designs behaviors and organized services);

Complex systems or environments for living, working, playing, and learning.

These areas of design are not high or low, but more changes in design objects and media. In addition, any experience needs to be designed for four fields. In my understanding, user experience is the person who organizes each part of these fields, while interaction design is designed for actions, relationships, and services. To understand interaction design on this framework, I think I can better understand and clarify the goal and mission of interaction design.

At present, interaction design is often mentioned in the Internet industry. Most interaction designs are also designed for information, and the output is mostly app and web products. But in fact, interaction design exists in all walks of life, just in different forms. In particular, many methods and concepts of interaction design today are related to architecture and industrial design, Graphic design and other design fields are interlinked.

        I also think that no matter which field you are in, you should consider the other three fields:

As a Interaction designer It goes without saying that visual expression is not only beautiful, but also helps you to establish information hierarchical relationships and divide regions. Sometimes, vision can also extend some of our experiences in the physical world to the digital world through color, texture, etc., such as a virtual button, which users know can be pressed without any teaching, Sound and shadow changes can also simulate physiological feedback that is highly close to the real world; From the point of view of the design of physical products, the shape and materials of products are also external factors that need to be considered in the interaction design. For example, the iPhone has transitioned from 4.7 inches to 5.5 inches that can be operated by one hand. When considering the interaction design, it is necessary to consider how users will change their operation when using it. The layout and design of the entire product may need to be adjusted accordingly; From the perspective of system and space, interaction design should consider the user's scene, such as designing a mobile game. If you put the user in a public transport scene to think about which nodes and which situations will occur, you need to consider how to design the entire product experience in combination with very dynamic environmental factors.
