Is Pratt and Chelsea good at interior design? Both British and American top interior schools, how about the future development of Pratt and Chelsea's interior design in their respective professional fields? Pratt and Chelsea have always been dream schools for many students studying interior design. Let's start with the difference between them.

When choosing a major, every student must think about what the prospect of the major is and whether it is easy to find a job. Maybe we all think very well at the beginning, but when we really read it, we will find that there is a deviation between reality and ideal. So today, Mr. Guangguang would like to share my personal understanding of the future development of British and American schools in the field of interior design after graduation.

Before starting, I would like to briefly mention the market environment. The saturation of the construction industry has led many architectural firms to start more involvement in the field of interior design. Such a demand has led many architectural design majors to gradually add more proportion of interior design, and some colleges and universities have slowly changed their professional names from architectural design to architectural interior design. (Doesn't this rob us of the job of interior design... the market economy is really influential... terrible...)

Accordingly, many interior design colleges have come up with different strategies. Some schools have also added their own majors to the courses of some architectural majors, and some have changed the direction of traditional interior design, and more have gone deep into interior design into more artistic fields.

It's time to introduce our Chelsea College of Art It is said that Chelsea is a very good school that combines design with pure art, Chelsea's interior and space design is a very inclusive course. The interior design is very conceptual and fine art, so it should actually be called spatial design. Personally, I think this is a very smart approach, because people outside the professional field always equate interior design with decoration, In fact, interior design is the art of door space.

It is different from the interior design we imagined that there would be more decoration, Chelsea has a high degree of freedom in interior design . As shown in the two student works below, we can strongly feel that it is different from the design thinking of traditional indoor space. There is a smell more similar to the user experience design. The process of learning is basically the improvement of self exploration and communication with classmates.

During the presentation, I will share many things with your tutors and classmates The role of the instructor in this course is more to tell your ideas, and he will give you more possibilities to explore rather than traditional telling you how to design.

Looking back, let's talk about Preet. Preet, whose main campus is located in Brooklyn, is a distinctive art school. We will all say that Manhattan is the center of New York. But from the perspective of art, Brooklyn is a more grounded and artistic cultural center. There are graffiti everywhere in the street. Williamsburg And many of the black music we are familiar with.

I have to say that for students who want to study interior design in the United States, although Rhode Island is known as Harvard in the art world, Savannah has the reputation of the most artistic town, However, New York is a real plus for learning interior design (New York's design resources, opportunities, exhibition frequency and quality are second to none).

Pratt's interior design is famous for its professionalism, practicality and commerce. First of all, we should make clear what is commercialization. It is very simple. The design aimed at making money is commercialization, so the courses offered by the school are very grounded, It not only cultivates students' design level in the academic field, but also pays special attention to teaching students to solve problems that may arise in practical work.

Relying on the design resources in New York, the school will invite many designers in the industry to be guests to share their experience in practical work. And, Pratt will also focus on cultivating students' leadership and independent design ability from concept design to implementation. The tutor will maximize the potential of this student according to each person's personality and professional level.

In the final analysis, Pratt is an art school, and the commercialization we have always talked about is not the kind of commercialized design that we think is full of copper smell and erases personality. It is to cultivate designers who conform to contemporary taste for the society. After all, the teachers are all designers and artists. It's just that the pace of the city is very fast, and fast food style artistic recreation is relatively developed. Therefore, such an environment also provides students with another opportunity: employment.

Employment is a very important part for us to study abroad. Almost all students want to accumulate some internship or work experience abroad. For British students studying abroad, they must grasp the internship experience in school, because it is almost the only work experience in the UK (The UK has very strict control over work visas. Unless you are one in a million, it is difficult to obtain a work visa in the UK.).

The United States is relatively relaxed in this regard. Not only can students gain the same internship experience during their study, One year after graduation, OPT can continue to provide students with professional experience (If the boss is satisfied with your work, you can also consider letting the boss do your sponsor later to help you draw lots to get H1B).

   Today's summary

First of all, students should not think that there is any difference between British and American teaching models. The only differences between British and American are in terms of semester length, geographical location and accent, and more importantly, the differences between schools.

So I hope that students can consider more factors such as school style and environment in the process of selecting schools. It is important to choose an excellent school, but it is more important to choose a suitable one!
