Last time, Natural Light interviewed graduates Columbia University Architecture GSAPP msaad Mavis, the designer who currently works for Shi Shangchunya, shared Columbia's learning life and her Studying abroad in architecture Experience, students who want to see it can click on the relevant recommendation at the bottom! Today, Natural Light invited another sharer about ONE Share from Master of Architecture, University of Tokyo We are also familiar with Zhang Tang, the founder of "Yijie" (many students know that we held an exhibition of student works at Yijie in August - Jiejie). Natural light continues to interview her, who founded the cool platform of "Yijie", to share her learning life and Experience of Studying Abroad in Architecture at Tokyo University

Zhang Tang, graduated from the University of Tokyo with a master's degree in architecture in 2017, established a gallery | workshop | cafe in 2016, and set up a personal architectural design work in 2017.

Since 9 years of studying in Japan in 2009 Master of Architecture, University of Tokyo During the semester, Yijie Gallery was founded to exhibit original and immature works, and it is committed to building a platform for artists to express and share whether they are "professional" or not. After graduating from the architecture major of the University of Tokyo, a personal studio was set up. In addition to the space design projects focusing on interior, architecture and planning, it is also committed to community transformation and "self construction" projects. From furniture, hard decoration to public space, it tries to construct by itself, hoping to further enter and take root in daily life.

Q1. Why did you choose to study in architecture?

Tutor Zhang Tang, majoring in architecture at the University of Tokyo, said that first, because he has a wide range of hobbies, architecture is a miscellaneous major. For example, there are office spaces for different professions, cultural and entertainment places with different interests, and public spaces with various service functions. It feels like you are experiencing different lives and understanding the world. Secondly, the University of Tokyo at that time Studying abroad in architecture Previously, I simply wanted to build a comfortable and happy nursing home for the elderly alone, provide a comfortable residence for people living in the "birdcage" style harsh living environment, and provide a safe and ideal home for single parents or young families who are busy with work and taking care of children.

In short, I hope everyone can live happily with or without money. Now, of course, we know that the power of architecture is almost negligible to solve the problem fundamentally, and the way will change. But the reason and goal of choosing architecture forever is to hope everyone is happy.

Q2. Why choose to study abroad in the architecture major of University of Tokyo?

The historical and cultural habits, ways of thinking, including the three outlooks, may be completely different in different regions. Architecture is something that everyone has been in contact with 24 hours in his life, and it will be used by everyone if it serves everyone. So I hope that we can understand and experience different lifestyles and thinking angles as much as possible, so that we can return to the essence of design. And people only live once. It's a pity not to look around.

Q3. How did you decide to go to Tokyo University for architecture?

From a historical perspective, Japan first had its own culture, then sent Tang envoys and Sui envoys to introduce Chinese culture, and then went to the westernization of the Meiji Restoration. Japan is very good at studying and learning new good things, and digesting and localizing them. Now China is paying more and more attention to this issue and is on the way, so I want to see what the future will look like. From the perspective of Japanese character, they are a very strict and self-discipline nation. They do everything in an orderly manner and try not to cause trouble to others in life and work. I hope to go to Japan to develop such a character and habit. Finally, the Japanese design is excellent and unique. Be serious and open your mind and be willing to make mistakes. This is why I decided to go to Tokyo University to study architecture.

Q4. Can you introduce your experience in applying for study abroad in the architecture major of the University of Tokyo to students who are preparing to study abroad?

I went to Japan to study for my bachelor's degree and master's degree after graduating from high school. Undergraduate is to take the college entrance examination for Japanese students, and then take the on campus examination of each school. The rules of different colleges and universities are different.

Taking the national university of Tokyo University as an example, we basically contact our favorite teachers about a year to half a year before the exam, and strive to visit the research room once, take the collection of works to communicate with the teachers face to face, and feel the atmosphere of the research room. After that, I would normally take the professional subject examination in the school.

Q5. Can you share some learning experiences and experiences of studying abroad in the architecture major of Tokyo University?

Just discovered more possibilities. The architecture major of the University of Tokyo is first of all an excellent teaching resource. The hardware is advanced, and the software can be directly taught by various masters. The lectures of various tycoons that can only be seen on TV and books before are also very rich. Close contact and face-to-face guidance in life are definitely different feelings and gains from books or films.

Next is the students around. Each student is very special. Some students have their own companies, some have traveled around the world, some have taken a break from school for a few years to practice in offices around the world, some have worked for decades and come back to study, some have taught themselves to program a VR game, some are interested in collecting old things to concentrate on carpentry, some have taken part in a variety show, and some are interested in all kinds of rock climbing, mountain climbing, surfing, skiing and rowing, Of course, there are also families who live by the seaside and take a three hour train to school every day. In the middle of studying abroad in Tokyo University, I was also with my classmates. Several of our architecture students followed the economics teacher to train economics knowledge in 2 months and developed a new logistics system for LV

In a word, there are all kinds of people majoring in architecture at the University of Tokyo. Everyone dares to think and do anything, and they also do very well. They can't help but want to learn more from everyone. I feel that there is such a thing and I can try it myself. Finally, we can go to workshops around the world with the gods. For example, we envy the project of building a toilet in India.

Q6. Can you share some design practices you participated in with us?

This community renovation project is located in a small public space of about 100 square meters in Huaxi Old Community, Daxue Road. The mode and residents of the community have changed greatly since the beginning, and the current form after this change is very interesting. The original canteen has now become a mahjong room. This public space was once the kitchen of the catering class. Now there are three security guards living here. Every day, residents will pick up the express delivery Yi here, as well as mysterious dental mold groups that come to meetings regularly. About the specific introduction of this project, I will stay at the sharing meeting to explain~
