First of all, there are some master's programs that do not accept low GRE scores.


The applicant's application materials in other aspects are perfect: very attractive application documents, perfect research experience, published papers, and some lucky ingredients.


However, this strict admission standard does not apply to most college programs.


For many master's programs, the role of GRE has been overstated. Applicants spent several months preparing for the exam, and then basically most of the students got similar scores in the end, leaving only a small part of time to prepare for other more important parts of the application.


In fact, as long as your score is within the requirements of the project you are applying for, you'd better put your energy into other application preparations rather than blindly brush high scores. Good research experience, perfect personal statement and professor's recommendation letter are more useful than higher GRE scores.    3. Didn't prepare learning motivation statement for each project


Applicants need to create a unique and customized statement of learning motivation for each master's program. On the official website of each university, graduate students will be informed of their overseas applicants, so that they can clearly explain why they want to study their master's program. But every year, some applicants ignore this rule and use a template to explain it.


Your statement of learning motivation needs to explain in detail why you want to learn that project, such as how the faculty and staff of the school, the school's research vision, future development opportunities and project structure match your background and goals. Maybe your future development goals may be fixed, but the projects of any two universities are not the same, so you need to create other parts specifically.


If you wonder why your GPA of 4.0 and GRE of 168 were rejected, while some students only got the GPA of 3.7 and GRE of 159, the reason may be due to the statement of learning motivation.    4. Write the statement of learning motivation as a personal statement


You must carefully understand the meaning of each material required by the school. The statement of learning motivation is to understand you from the perspective of researchers, so the statement of learning motivation should be more like a research plan, with the reasons why you want to apply for the project interspersed. The personal statement is more emotional, and its purpose is to understand you more comprehensively, rather than just regard you as a researcher. You need to study your past, your background and what you will bring to the school.


Many applicants make a big mistake when they write the statement of learning motivation as a personal statement. If the school requires you to submit a personal statement, the school believes that your potential to become a graduate student is more important than your background. What you need to remember is that applying for graduate students is different from applying for undergraduate courses. It is more like applying for a job. You need to convince the art student admissions officer what you can contribute to their school.


If the project you apply for only requires a statement of learning motivation, but you are eager to provide some personal information, you can put this part of the content in your resume. Remember: your motivation statement must not be a summary of your resume.


For example, instead of telling your volunteer work experience in your motivation statement, you can make a summary in your resume and introduce what you have learned from this experience.    5. Submit a messy resume


The resume needs to be well organized, easy to read, and provide as much research details as possible. Many applicants often fall into two kinds of misunderstandings on their resumes: either too much irrelevant information or too little. It is suggested that after completing your resume, you'd better find a professor who is studying in graduate school or school to help you look at it.


   6. Didn't regard your application materials as a whole


Every part of your application materials will reveal a completely different you, and your resume is just like that. Many applicants will have a shining experience, so they will disclose this in all parts of the application materials.


Maybe they want to apply for the PHD project of art history, and then they spent a summer vacation internship in the university museum. Generally, it is not that the applicants are not responsible enough, but that they failed to complete this step by submitting the application in a hurry before the deadline. Therefore, it is suggested that the application materials must be completed early to allow time for correction.


   8. Application with too high, too low or no target


Deciding which graduate program to apply for has always been one of the biggest problems for applicants. You need to match your qualifications to the projects you can apply for, but many people should not give up applying for top university projects because of their imperfect background.


Applicants usually go to the following extremes: many students will apply for nearly half of the programs of top universities, but they do not have a competitive GPA, GRE or rich research experience.


Some students have very appealing backgrounds, but they may give up applying for top university programs for some reasons.


Some students will apply for as many projects as possible, and they will go to whichever school offers them.
