AFI Film Academy graduate admission conditions. At present, AFI only offers an MFA master's degree in film production for two years. There are six majors in total: film photography, director, film editing, film production, art guidance, and screenwriting. There are less than 300 students in school and more than 100 teachers and professors. It is an absolute small class teaching. Of course, the teaching quality is not to mention. The college has 60 full-time professors and many top people in the industry as guest professors. For example, Tom Hanks won the 30th Lifetime Achievement Award of the college.

How about AFI Film Academy

The American Film Academy (AFI Conservatory), famous for the AFI Top 100, is the first film academy in the United States. It directly connects Hollywood film learning, production and production with "Americanized" film teaching, and is the cradle of international top filmmakers. Oscar is beckoning to you!

The director of the department is Peter Markham, the deputy director of British Patient and Gangs of New York. Teachers include many American drama directors, such as Criminal Psychology, Gossip Girl and Kelly Diary. The director of the production department is Neil Canton, the producer of Back to the Future trilogy. The director of the screenwriting department is Tom Rickman, the screenwriter of the Reagan Family, and the teachers include Fang Tana, the screenwriter of Star Trek. The head of the Department of Fine Arts is Joseph Garrity, the art director of the Father of Invention and the Secret of Genealogy. Teachers include many outstanding artists such as Hunger Games: Free Fantasy, Star Trek: Dark Boundless, Raiders 4: Crystal Skull Kingdom, Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon, etc.

There are also many internationally renowned alumni, such as David Lynch, a versatile player in the contemporary American film industry, Darren Arronovsky, the director of Noah's Ark: A Journey to Creation, and Janush Kaminsky, the photographer of Schindler's List, the best photography award of the 60th Academy Awards.

In particular, there will be a master seminar in the first grade of AFI. When some blockbuster films of the year go to AFI to hold a screening meeting before hairstyle, the main creators of the film will also attend. Almost all the world's master filmmakers have come here. It is really enviable that students have the opportunity to communicate closely with these heavyweight filmmakers in the film history.

Not only teachers, but also world-class equipment. AFI's later computer room is jointly founded by AFI and Sony, and is called "Sony Digital Art Center". All filming and production equipment used by students are provided by Sony for free, and all post production can be completed here.

Compared with other film academies, AFI pays more attention to cultivating students' "art of storytelling" and pays more attention to teaching in practice. Therefore, the school will require students to start making films from the beginning of enrollment. First of all, students will participate in a six week training camp. The school will introduce AFI to them in detail and let students have a preliminary understanding and experience of the whole process of film production to guide them to actively participate in the whole life cycle of the film. After that, they will practice shooting their first short film with students from different majors.

In addition, students need to form their own teams to shoot and produce three works. Students can form teams by themselves, but each Cycle director, producer and photographer must be a different candidate.

Therefore, the competition among students is fierce. Of course, everyone hopes to find good teammates every time they shoot. So most students form teams according to the quality of the last cycle. It is worth mentioning that at the beginning of the semester, when everyone did not know each other, the first round of team formation, students would generally choose on the basis of the quality of works five minutes before entering the AFI, so the collection of works submitted by everyone must be perfect~

High quality=high cost?! We don't have to worry about the production costs. The college stipulates a shooting time of 3 days and a post production time of 2 weeks. Each production budget is 4000 dollars. No overspending is allowed. Students are not allowed to use their own money. The college bears all the costs. Cycle is only used for practice and communication. It is not allowed to be shown and distributed in public. However, the copyright of AFI's cycle, MOS and graduation works during the school period belongs to the university.

The College of Graduated Works will provide each team with a production cost of 13000 dollars, and the remaining costs will be raised by each team member, but the budget cannot exceed 65000 dollars at most. Students also form their own teams. Graduation works can go out for competition, exhibition and screening. (Note: Music must have copyright.)

In addition, photography students have two separate silent film works (MOS). 16mm for grade one and 35mm for grade two. You can use Sony equipment for free or rent it from off campus equipment companies.

In terms of actors, the Academy will help to contact Hollywood actors directly, without requiring students to find actors. Some actors in Hollywood are also very happy to cooperate with AFI.

Although many students admit that "this is a very difficult process", such experience can quickly connect everyone in different majors to form a production team, and train their ability to produce good movies in practice.
